The Collegiate Starleague Season 4 Playoffs The Grand Finals
Over one hundred universities, three thousand players, seventeen weeks of North American divisional brawling, four weeks of elite teams, hundreds of mind games...
...
And it all comes down to this weekend.
Join us Saturday, May 07 9:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) for the CSL GRAND FINAL, casted by none other than the illustrious
Sean "Day[9]" Plott at Day9tv.
Stream: Day9tv.
Interviews by JadedShock
Here's a sneak peek of interviews with the team captains! Check out the full interviews by clicking the banner!
SCMonk: Our lineup is chosen based on experience in playing for CSL, history, and skillset. With the exception of the 2v2 team, every one of the players has played in the grand finals of CSL season 2. This is definitely nostalgic for Waterloo, and brings back some great memories. I trust every single one of my players to do what they do best, which is winning. Screw bi-winning, we're sexa-winning.
Stalife: I expect to have the 5 awesome TTesports keyboards and $1000 (Thanks to justin.tv) delivered to UBC CSL team...I put up a poll on our CSL UBC team facebook page, and the question was "What should we do with $1000 when we win the CSL?" Most of the votes went into giving the money to charity. This just shows what a great team we have not just in SC2 skills, but our mentality.

why is combat-ex banned? Could anyone fill me in?

combat-ex was banned for excessive unsportsmanlike conduct, BM, etc, both in-game and out of game. (it was pretty bad)

Although I'm an SFU student I shall be cheering for our rivals UBC to take the championship for BCers.

Are there any more known players in this? If not, I guess Stalife is just gonna roflstomp from here on.
|
Odd choice to do a gas steal, see 2 rax (understands stalife won't have any teching and will just pressure expand), yet still chooses to go heavy phoenix when stalife can just run in with high ground forces.

Anyone else find it funny that the 2 schools in the finals are the 2 in Canada with the highest concentration of asian students (I think)? ;P

He needs to make at least a few stalkers blind. Sentries just don't have the dps to kill roaches, and as a grandmaster, kangpo should be quite familiar with the build. Also, kangpo didn't even try to scout. He just chilled in his base with mass sentry and was caught blind.

Slightly better FFs and being less greedy. So many sentries early on and still trying to pull off a 3 gate expand is just being plain greedy, a few stalkers a 30 sec later expand and he would have held and been ahead.

If combat played, this would of ended entirely differently. Firstly, combat is definitely waterloo's best player, and he would most likely of won his game, and that woulda brought the series to 3-3 (as monk won his game, even tho he didnt count). Then combat would of taken the ace match, as...imo he is better then any of the players on BC's roaster...
I understand his BM, and he probably deserves to get banned....but at least let the kid finish the season, as he helped his team get this far into CSL (an impressive 10-1 in 1x1 and 6-1 in 2x2 according to the CSL website), sure most of these might be cheese, or whatever you want, but thats besides the fact, with him, im pretty confident the outcome would of definitely been different...
Im sorry but im disappointed in the results for this CSL finals, as I feel, when it comes to which university is straight up 'better', taking waterloo's #1 player out, and calling UBC the champions, just doesn't seem right to me...
|
I think University of Montreal doesn't have a team Does McGill/Concordia allow stranger on their team?

If CombatEX wanted to play he wouldn't have acted like a complete retard even after he was warned to stop. Sorry, but blaming anyone other than CombatEX is completely unrealistic. He was well aware of his probation and his behavior. If he wasn't aware of it, then you need to blame the Waterloo coordinator. He is in control of his own actions, and he chose to get banned.

I agree, but im just saying...actually saying that UBC is 'the best' university this season in CSL is false..as Waterloo most likely would of won if combat played...by no means am i blaming faults, im just stating that i think waterloo would of most likely won had he played

Not sure how they would have won the whole thing since CombatEX would have only been able to play in one game. They lost 4-1 and only won the 2-2. Even if CombatEX played they probably would have lost still.

That's not entirely true. When Monk played his 1v1 game, the match was already decided. UBC didn't care. Not saying Monk would have lost if they had actually played it out, but you can't really count the fact that he won a game that didn't count as evidence that Waterloo would have won with Combat. You also can't say that Combat is better than all of UBC's players. Stalife and FireZerg actually play in the competitive scene and have some good results (especially Stalife). I think either of those two, or ValiditySAGA could beat CombatEX. There's no saying Combat would have won his 1v1, or the ace if it got there.
However, if you're so confident CombatEX would have won the match for Waterloo... then CombatEX just cost them about $1,500 in prizes for being a complete toolbag. Hopefully that and being banned next season will cause him to grow up and stop being an asshole.

In all honesty Oracle and Iggnite should have played for UW. Their current skill poses an unmatchable treat in any case and Iggnite has an undefeated record, 1-0, absolutely unreal. Would have been a riot had these two carried the flag for Waterloo and dismantled already triumphant superstars Stalife and Firezerg. Stalife and Firezerg both agree that we are a threat to the nation and would have severely changed the outcome of the series had they been matched against us. The addition of Iggnite and Oracle to the UW roster would have emulated a TSN Turning Point in the series, winning the first 2 games and boosting the morale of other fellow peons such as Antimage, Gerbil, and Monk to further-on carry the torch to victory. This would have caused a vibrant shock in the Esports community and rekindled the dying flame of the UWaterloo Warriors. You win for now, UBC. Until next season, chumps.

Ok, Monk might of lost, but hypothetically lets assume he wins (as he did, so this would be a logical assumption). Combat has defeated stalife and firezerg several times in many tournaments that i've seen first hand, and I believe he would of been able to beat them again, therefore clinching the ace match....
Sorry, I think anyone that knows anything about waterloo will agree that waterloo should have taken CSL this time around.... and to bring up the topic of the ban, combat was on probation for not bm'ing in game, he got banned because he bm'd in a stream.... if people were to get bans based on stream bm....then the sc population would be 19/20th of what is is right now.....people bm in stream a lot....ppl bm a lot in general....i find the issuer of the ban; a person who just jumped on the hate-combat bandwagon, as opposed to actually giving it some thought.... lets be honest here, when I am watching destiny's stream/incontrol's stream/anyone at a high level stream...probably the ONLY time i actually ever get excited and the ONLY time the stream goes insane is when they get matched against combat-ex....as much as people hate him, he bring life into the community.... this is going on a tangent...so im going to stop here.

Combat was on probation for both in-game and out-of-game bm. That includes bm in a stream. You really think we didn't give this any thought at all? You act as if you know everything that goes on behind the scenes in the CSL. Please don't, as I find that pretty offensive.
I'll be honest, I find people like Destiny hilarious, but when people started to complain for legitimate reasons for uncalled-for bad manner, we put Combat on probation. He violated the terms of that probation, and was banned for it. Simple as that, and as unfortunate as it is, I think the parties involved understand.
You can argue that Waterloo is better than UBC all you want, but in the end, UBC is this season's champions, and CombatEX > all.

His probation note clearly said that bm inside AND out of game would not be tolerated anymore.

I'm SUPER excited that UBC won the CSL season 4 :D The first season with SC2 which makes it even more meaningful ! Thanks to the wonderful CSL organizers for hosting an amazing tournament. They have been great all throughout the season!
Thank you to the sponsors JUSTIN.TV and TTESPORTS.
Thanks to the UBC CSL team for being awesome :D WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS.
After some internal discussion, we`re going to be donating part of the prize money to charity, preferably something local to Vancouver, and/or something related to gaming. If you guys have any suggestion, feel free to post or PM me. Half the prize will go to UBC's SC2 Club (which is different from UBC CSL team) to help grow ESPORTS at UBC :D
