i dont get this at all, why would you invite some guys based on reults and then have "11-48. Determined by DreamHack selection.", 37 invites left?
something is really strange.

I would assume 2gd would be there, bit mainly For bloodline Champions. Might be involved in sc2 aswell!

What is so strange?

1-5 results from the DHW10 and AMD championship.
6-7 BYOC qualifiers @ DHS11.
8-10 Invites to be released on a later date.
11-48 "invites" based on the process started with this thread.

Kind of up front in my opinion.
I am not young enough to know everything.

Prize money is on par with TSL3, very cool.

Why? Seems reasonable to me.

Some qualified pros from before, some local guys (BYOC qualifiers), and a whole slew of international top stars and fan favourites.

Best of both worlds, like TSL.

Please let 2GD host the whole event not just sc2.

I would tune into everything if he was hosting

Slightly more on topic Good to see another tournament. So many to watch now and very nice prize pool

Its really logical, actually.

1-5 from previous events
6-7 from on-location qualifiers
8-10 Special invites (not up for applications - think fan favorites etc.)
11-48 The rest of the invites (from applications announced in this thread)

Should be an awesome tournament. Very, very excited!

I will explain how come MaNa isn't qualified to DreamHack Summer 2011.

It's a DreamHack tradition that the reigning champion is invited to the next tournament, we do that for all the games and have done that for a long time.

The rest of the players Socke, Bischu, MC and White-Ra qualified through DreamHack Sapphire AMD Championship which is DreamHack 2011 StarCraft II in the first to events.

So for every competition there has been a slot to DreamHack Summer 2011 for the winner and the runner up.

I hope that makes some sense.

It just doesn't make sense to me that someone who got second in the coin toss tournament would be qualified when the person who got second in the last BIG Dreamhack tournament would not be qualified.

1st place and runner up == invited, except mana is runner up of DHW 2010 and not invited? Your post still doesn't make sense. Also seems strange that none of this was publicized, etc ...

Maybe it is because DHW 2010 is not a part of Dreamhack's 2011 run.

Ya, I kinda inferred that, but it still isn't incredibly clear. I dunno ~~

I guess you need to know some history to understand the answer.

The DH tradition = the winner gets invite

When DHW10 was played the AMD championship didn't exist.

When the AMD championship was made for 2011 a invite for the runner-up was added in the "prize pool" in some of the tournaments.

Pretty simple really, non drama.

It's not drama, it's just stupid. Bischu was put into the finals of the coinflip tournament before the tournament started, and now he gets an invite to DH summer. MaNa played his ass off and got second in DH 2010, and he is not qualified. I don't care if it's tradition or whatever, it's just not fair to MaNa.

You are however missing the major point, the runner up invite didn't exist when DHW10 was played, it was created in the prizepools of the AMD championships.

Kind of hard to plan for things that is not created yet. The DHW10 was played with the standard rules, that they always have used regarding prizepool invites, the change came later.

You must have a shift somewhere when changing the construction of a prizepool from one invite to two.

Yeah, they obviously couldn't plan for something that they haven't done yet. But that doesn't restrict them from just taking MaNa and putting him in. That's what I don't understand. The runner up invite didn't NEED to exist when DHW10 was going on, because they could just invite him now.

Best part of the entire post. Invited to the finals = runner up. :D Nice that he still gets good treatment. ^^

Interesting you have so many BYOCs, means something to play each day. Wonder if I can make it there, seems fun.

Dreamhack's always been a BYOC. You can't supply the worlds biggest lan with computers. That'd be pretty expensive. Plus they have to pay the internet bill for 40 gigabytes / second.. lol imagine that coming down you mail box :X
I bet i can maı̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̨̨̨̨̨̨ke you wipe your screen.

Yes! Dreamhack is always a pleasure. I was a big fan of Day9's commentary and more recently DeMuslim's.
