TB, you did a fantastic job today. Even the koreans were impressed by the flow & enthusiasm by your job (they were talking about how the casting & production of IGN seems to be far superior to NASL in playxp).
Ignore the clowns that are blatantly spouting their opinions and marking them "constructive criticism" when it's obvious that it's just subjective opinion. Husky does analytical casting or some crap. Husky is great and all but he definitely does not do any sort of analysis, more of play by play as you mentioned.
Just because something doesn't float your boat doesn't mean it sucks. There are loads of people who loved TB's casting today. I personally thought it was great, and thought that it brings a different type of atmosphere to the scene.

To the guy trying to quote nietzsche, if you want to get into his theory of analogies.. this probably isnt the place. Regardless your usage has no relevance to the discussion.
TotalBiscuit has a style that he almost certainly wont (and absolutely shouldn't) change. This is the hyper play-by-play that the incredibly large majority find entertaining, interesting, and exciting. So when critiquing his casting, do so by things other than his style that he can improve.
Saying you dont like his accent or voice helps nothing.
Instead say you wish he would check out the production tab more, or try to pay more attention to drops or something of that nature (both things he happened to do well in this tournament).
When trying to critique someone you have to actually give criticism for things they can improve on.
What you guys are doing now is the equivalent of seeing a k pop band at a show and telling them "ehhh i dont like lead singers vocals, why dont you get a male singer and do metal?"
How in the fuck is that useful?
As to the superfluous word usage - this is a tactic that KEEPS the excitement at a certain level. It's supposed to keep the viewer engage with what they're watching, instead of dropping from loud "OMG THE DROP IS COMING" to "nothing's really going on right now... i'll let you know when something does".
Perhaps if he was with a co caster TB could do the caster banter in between exciting parts of the game, but as a solo he can't exactly sit there talking to himself.

TotalBiscuit, you did fine, just keep playing SC2 to learn the game more or at least watching analytical casters to improve your knowledge. I like your play-by-play of battles

TB did a pretty good job casting by himself. His analysis was better than I expected, but it was clear that he wasn't the type of caster that goes into a real analytical sort of review. That's fine for the most part, but people on TL will bitch about it because they're used to that sort of casting (Day9, Chill, etc). But still, he did seem to understand quite a lot of what was going on and that itself is fine.

Watching the Idra series now. Pretty impressed by this whole thing.
TB was surprisingly good too. Not that i dislike him, i used to watch his WoW stuff (before i quit due to amazing boredom of cataclysm) all the time. I just had low expectations i guess, but they were super exceeded.

The vods are a pain to watch, they really need to look into how to improve the vod page. I wanted to watch the recommended third game of Catz vs Augh but it was nowhere to be found. The first vod I loaded was completely black but the sound was playing. After a reload it worked better, I tried clicking the HD button to see if it would make loading faster (by lowering quality), it seemed that "HD" text was just text. Clicking around made the content of the letterbox change to a html page with the vod and some other stuff on (unrelated vods mainly). Confusing. Eventually I found out that the next game in the series loaded after the current game finished, so I skipped to end of the vod, waited for the second to load and clicked at the end of that too. While the third game was loaded I tabbed to another browser window to surf a bit while the pregame and early game stuff played. Then I shifted back to the vod browser by clicking inside the window, unfortunately I clicked outside the vod letterbox. That might not seem like a big deal but it seems clicking outside the letterbox closes the letterbox and of course the vod in it. Yay. To get back to the third game I had to load up the first game, skip to the end, reload the game because the vid was black and couldn't be searched, click to the end, wait for game2 to load, skip to the end, wait for game3 to load. Finally back! However I accidentally clicked outside the letterbox again and had to repeat the process.
Over all it was quite an awful experience and I'll stay away from those vods from now on. The usability on tournament pages is usually quite bad but that is the worst I've experienced yet. Fancy stuff like letterboxes is completely irrelevant if the page doesn't behave as the user expect it to, as a student of stuff like user experience and usability this stuff irks me. E-sports need to get better at catering to the online audience.

When I heard on State of the Game that TB was going to be casting, I expected quite some controversy in the community, but I'm still surprised at the amount of negativity in this thread.
TotalBiscuit is someone you either love or hate, but the haters are forgetting some things.
- You don't like his casting, there's a ton of people who do, they can't please everyone.
- TB's popularity brings in a lot of extra viewers.
- TB's casting style helps bringing in an audience that doesn't play the game, he makes it easy to get in to (which is one of IGN's goals).
I'm sure IGN is aware of who they brought on board of the casting team, and for people who really don't want to listen to TB, there's enough options to avoid it. You can mute the sound, and even the VOD page has options to filter out video's casted by a person of your choice.
Personally I'm not a fan of TB's casting at all, but it's great for the IPL and eSports that he's involved, so I don't mind it at all and I'll work my way around it.
I applaud IGN for the great start to the IPL, it's looking very solid and I want to give a special thanks for the amazing free VOD service. Keep it up guys!

Im SO impressed by IPL. Production quality, custom artwork, casters, matches, free 1080p vods, no ads.. everything is perfect! Very nice work by IGN! IPL > NASL

I enjoy your casting. I understand people prefer different styles and honestly I myself enjoy a variety of casters. What I am having a hard time understanding is how some of the "hardcore" starcraft fans are overemphasizing "high level analysis." Really if spectators have a thorough knowledge of the game they should be capable of doing some analysis on their own. Some of the posts on here the people sound like they might only be able to learn stuff from one or 2 people on the planet anyway. I appreciate how you respond to feedback and think you have a great style of casting. Keep up the good work.

I'm one of those viewers who doesn't like TB as much as other casters.
I think he has a great voice and definitely has the skills to become a great caster, but there were a couple of thing about his casting that I think could be improved.
He has a tendency to focus on armies rather than bases. This is fine during battles, but often times he would focus on armies even when nothing was happening. Since he usually had the army tab and not the in progress tab up, it was sometimes difficult to determine what exactly the players were doing. I'd at least like to be able to determine for myself if the Protoss is going three gate robo, etc., even if the caster doesn't tell me directly.
His speaking is very inefficient. I understand that he has a very verbose style, and that it helps him maintain his rhythm. That's not the issue. It's that the phrases he chooses aren't the best at communicating the information he wants to communicate. There were several times that I found myself wading through a bunch of clunky clauses to get to the particular word I needed for the entire sentence to make sense.

This isn't really true, the army counting station is only up when I am discussing force compositions. The vast majority of the time, the production tab is up. If I am accidently leaving the tab open in some casts rather than switching back to production as soon as I'm done talking about the army comp, then that's a mistake I'll look to correct in future casts.

VODs are loading incredibly slow here, and on top of the the VOD structure has been criticized already, I will only add that it bother me too, I don't like it.
EDIT: It is incredibly slow in the meaning that in the last 1 and half hour I could watch about 10min of games.......

I'll consciously make an effort to ensure this does not happen in future. I may be slipping back into it without realising. I'll check out a few vods later and see how frequent it is. I do use the army tab because I think awareness of force composition at different parts of the game is important so that people have an understanding of who has what. Supply count does not tell the whole story. That said that's the only time except during large battle when you're trying to keep track of real-time casualties, where having the army tab open is reasonable.

A lot of games still aren't on the VOD page, or if they are I can't find them. Perhaps some haven't been added yet? It could certainly use a makeover to make the VODs easier to find!

I like TB's attitude on criticism. A lot of the hate appears to be unwarranted, and yet TB manages to filter out some useful lessons to help himself improve. I wish all casters did this. Well done, I enjoyed the casting on the games I watched.
As for the vods, it has been posted already that all sets of games follow each other automatically. One can also reach the set you want by selecting HD and then the sets appear on the right. (I used the first method, don't know if the second actually works.)
