The UKUTL has opened signups for season two, however we are no longer called the UKUTL, and have since been rebranded to CSL:EU due to our partnership with the CSL info on how to register can be found in this thread - http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=263557 at the bottom of the OP.
ESports in the UK is beginning to grow and I believe a way to help its expansion would be the introduction of more online tourniments to compliment our growing number of LANs and communities, such as UKStarcraft, also found on irc.quakenet.org #ukstarcraft.
Be sure to check out our sponsor, Cynical Brit, over at http://CynicalBrit.com, and also thanks to Trowa for throwing another £50 into the prizepool!
Also check out our livecaster Vequeth and follow him on JTV so you know when we go live!
NA already has their own take on this, and after browsing the forums I could not find anything similar so I decided to take it upon myself and set up a UK tournament open to university students. This is also open to colleges and 6th forms within the UK.
Donations and Prize pool: The prize pool will be formed completely of donations this league is to receive. The winning team will receive a 70% cut of the final pool, while second receives a 30% cut.
The prizepool currently stands at £500
Dates: The first games are to be played at 6PM BST (GMT+1) on Saturday 30th April. If you cannot make that day please refer to our rules page at http://utl.ukstarcraft.net/rules/

Great idea! We have previously had a thread regarding a UK university tournament in the Oxford Uni thread on TL. However this seems a good way to get the ball rolling I will be signing up a Aberdeen Uni team up soon, is there a limit on number of players? As judging from the format, more players = more wins = overall win? Nothing like a GSTL format?
There is no upper limit on players per team, there is only a 3 minimum so that if your team is to reach the semi-finals you will have a full squad to be able to play. There is also an all kill system, if you win a game, you will stay on untill defeated, at which point your team can decide on a player to compete.

dont get me wrong. I mean this could potentialy be the CSL for entire EU if you do it right. It just that there are a tons of stuff that you need to account for.
If i recall correctly CSL has at least 50 stafff running around just for divisions only. And across season 4 (still currently running), there were countless of times cheating were involve and banning was executed.
If you do it, make it big! else i dont think its worthed over all

Everything must start small, I help run all the ESL tournies so will offer a helping hand if this starts to get big and my help is required/wanted.
Sign me up for manchester uni (catch.831 ingame) need +2 though as no one is cool enough to play from manchester
Just made a quick edit to the first post to make it easier for teams to find players - Team Roster (Minimum of 3 players, 2 of you have to be from the same University) in a Name.Code format.
Hi Joe, this sounds awesome and i'd like to get involved, if you'd like any help with this give me a PM and we can talk. Also I will be signing a University of Sheffield team up soon!

why need to be a division below? i just think we should all compete with each other, it'd be better with a bigger bracket than 2 small brackets in my opinion

I just think it would be cool tht way since as people from the school /sixth form/ college teams go to uni, they can move up into the uni division.
I think there will be more interest in this han you think, I bet alot of people play, with good organisation / advertising, think the league could be quite big?
yeah that is true but i was just think for now that it would be better to combine the 2 leagues otherwise it will need more admins etc. but surely it depends on interest.

I go to Portsmouth uni. Although I haven't been playing any solo for the last four-five months, I was pretty good back then and have just started playing again, so I think I'll be back to being decent soon.
Im from London School of Economics, but don't know anyone else playing sc2 maybe we could merge with the other Univeristy of London Unis? Like UCL etc.
Impirion 667, Lancaster or Cambridge here (Alumnus of Cambs, currently at Lancs) so if either need a person with self respect and whose units do cost money, then sign me up
No representation for Bristol Uni? I'm (only) a platinum but have fought my way up from Bronze, and will continue. Would be happy to chip in with a team if one pops up.
Come on guys and girls we're not smashed on cider all the time.
Btw Joeeigel, do you just want to add into the spoiler tag under shef uni that if anyone from shef wants in on the team, to just PM me or contact me on bnet, that would be sweet. Cheers.
Can't add you unless you post your character code.

Hey guys, I'm fairly new SC2 player, but it would be great to join my University team (there are no members on the list as of yet, but perhaps more will come).
I'm from the University of Glamorgan. Don't have my SC2 account details to hand though, will edit this post later on. Cheers.

I was in Glamorgan 8 years ago... i dropped out haha/ after blowing my student loan on booze. takeaways and nights out in Cardiff!!!.... regret it now but back then I was living the dream!!!
I went to University of Birmingham, but graduated years ago. There's lots of uni's in Birmingham and the surrounding area (including Wolves, Warrick, even Staffs and Keele a little further north). Maybe it would be possible to create a Midlands team if there's not enough for a team at each uni?
Joe now that we have several unis and colleges/sixth Forms/schools, I think it would make sense to split it into two leagues? So the unis can compete with each other and likewise with the colleges/sixth Forms/schools? Then we could have an interesting movement of players between leagues as people go away to uni?
I'm in no way saying the uni people would be better, just that it makes sense to be competing against a rival uni, and likewise if your in a sixth form or w/e, you want to see how yours matches up to other sixth forms etc around the country...
For this first season, I'm against the idea, as currently the prize pool and number of teams signing up that are not Universities are simply too low, however it is something I am considering for future seasons.

Great idea man. I love that people are taking it upon themselves to help spread sc2 all over the world. I just read a similar post where they are making a high school league. The more the better I say. Keep it up!

This is a UK Starcraft leauge, Swedish and German speaking students probably don't attend a University based within the UK.
Just bumping this up so people who didn't see it today will catch it on the main page
Edit: just reading through the map format, don't you guys think the matches should be longer than BO3s? I mean you only have to win two games to "all kill" a team... They should be longer imo, think GSTL style...

I was thinking the same thing, and considering making it BO5, as all teams have 3 players minimum, however if one is unable to participate that team is then unable to play, this rule is subject to change depending on the final look of the tourniment. The Semi finals and finals are BO5 no question however.

Well perhaps you could add in a claus, that once you're "dead" you cannot play again until all your team has "died". Or just DQ teams with under 3 players... As then they're not really a "team"?

I was considerign a 'Resurrection' clause as it were, for teams that cannot meet the requirements of higher player numbers.

Just gonna chip in on the format, I think it would be cool to do in BW proleague style, and mix it up half through or something like that, like 1st half the style where each team sends 1 player out on a map, and the other half winners league maybe.
I agree that the group stages should be BO5. Gives more players a chance to play if they have a big team. Of course if a team doesn't have 3 players, then you could either add in a revive clause i guess. Tho this does lessen the "team" aspect in a way. The team for Aberdeen University is as follows Andrew Mo - moajskmo@hotmail.com exia.932 Puresuri.459 Pepper.264 TheFade.705 GosuTofu.590 Vukanis.529 Groovymonkey.574 There are prob a couple more names i could add but tbh, we would only field half of the above names lol. Could we possibly field two teams? :D

Wow you have alot of people representing Aberdeen!
Yup! I can potentially round up a couple more names too tho! but they and a couple on the names already mentioned aren't very good lol. If we can only have one team then it would be the same 3 or so people, the best of us ofc as we would like to do well :D
Sorry, but I'm (RieuK.821 UCL) going to have to drop out for this. The timing is awful for me as I have exams early May. I'm pretty sure bigbros will be out too but that depends on him. Good luck to all. Hopefully there will be another tournament after may and I'm sure UCL will own it .
Likewise to the post by htwest I won't be able to take part in this due to exams being on the days shortly following the 30th. I'll keep watching to see if you do another tournament at a more suitable time for me .
IIt is sad to see people dropping out due to the dats, however depending on the success of this one there is another schedualed for the start of the next school year, as that is really the only suitable time.
On April 07 2011 04:18 Lyter wrote: is there a need to have it all on one day? why not just play like one clanwar a week or so? That way it shouldn't rly intrude on exams
Teams are only going to play 1 set per match day over the course of a few weeks. If teams within the same brackets agree they can be played earlier and then cast from replays, so that time is not as major of an issue.
Moving the dates to a time after exams means during the summer, which by that point a lot of people are off doing their own thing or coming and gonig from universities and colleges, and it becomes a lot harder to organize.
I don't really think having dates in summer will be that big of an issue? Most people just go home or stay at uni, and can still easily play as it's just an online tourney... ?

I will be considering it, but I myself am having afew issues with what I can do this summer, as I don't actually have a place to stay. If I can get myself sorted for the summer, the chances of one of these happening during that time frame will be much greater, else I may hand it over to the UKSC guys.

As much as I would love to represent UCL and play, it's just too close to my final exams. I have to say I can't play. Everyone I know is going to be finished towards the end of May so if there are people still around I'm sure we can sort something out. Just curious about how long would this league be stretched out?
I am hoping to have th e entire leauge wrapped up by the end of may. There may be another one of these ran over the summer (read: end of June into July), however if there is not, another will be ran in October.

I think you're stretching a bit to assume man met play strategy games. xDDD I don;t think the demand and awareness is quite there to field a team per university rather than a team per city atm I've been trying to centralize sc2 players in sheffield but I think I've probably missed the majority of them. By 30th of April Saturday does that we can decide what times we play during that day? And that it must be finished by the end of the day? Or that all games must be played 1 after another or can there be gaps between. Reason being there might be time gaps due to work/activites etc
Have the rules been decided yet?? Like what happens if there's a disconnect, or really bad lag. And like race choices of players. Can say a zerg decide to play zerg vs T and Z but play terran vs P?? BM penalties?? When and how do teams announce the player starting first in each match so that the other team doesn't get an advantage of knowing the other team's choice??

I'm sure these issues will be addressed. On the day there will be Admin's ready to take your queries and will give full information about rules and regulations.

No, changes can be made as long as they are 3 days before your next match.

Once the bracket goes up on the 27th teams can try to organize their matches themselves and get them played, or play them live on the day. This event may be getting casted so live games would be nice, and replays to fall back upon.

Rules have been drafted for all of these issues, however refering to the race question, its GSTL/GCPL style meaning that both teams do not know who the other player is sending first, then winner stays on untill defeated. Once a player has joined the lobby there is no changing/substitutions.
Just updated the OP with everything that was posted during my nap.
Can you please add rookie.960 to the Aberdeen University team :D btw, u should change the team heading from "Aberdeen" to Aberdeen University as there are two unis in Aberdeen :O With forming two teams, would 4 in each be ok? I take it that no swapping can occur? Even in later stages if one team is knocked out.

Hi, so is this a 6 man team all at the University of Leeds?
I'm in first year exam period at the moment, but would definitely committ to playing and practicing in a team!
That goes for anyone In the UK I guess, if you live close to Leeds, that's cool, but I've been a similarly isolated british gamer as I'm sure have some of the people in this thread, and it would be good just to get the lines of communication open and see what we can get organised together.

After reading through this thread it looks like this little competition needs somebody to cast the games! We'd be willing to cast official replays from the torny and slap them up on our youtube channel in glorious 1080p (http://www.youtube.com/unitlosttube). We've been wanting to do something for the UK eSports scene for a while now, so its about time we go out and do something about it.
I think maybe the final games would be a good idea, although I bet we could handle the majority of the games. It's obviously limited by our upload capacity (come on virgin where's my frigging upload upgrade you jerks) so don't expect games to be uploaded as soon as we get the replays there may be some delay.
We'd love to help, so just let me know if this is something you'd be intrested in

If the UoL idea didn't come along none of us would be playing cause you need at least 3 members from each uni. The University of York also has 7 players and I don't see complaints directed at them like how their pool of talent is so big.
People just want to play and this is our way of getting that chance without having to sit around being one of two or the only player in your uni that looks at this thread or wants to play.
If people are hurting inside cause Lau and Gomas are in the same team then just say it. That's a different argument.

Complaints are obviously only because you have 2 GM, don't take it too seriously Can't blame people for feeling a bit jealous, especially since the average level of most teams seems to be plat/diamond ^^
With such a huge range of player skills on the team rosters it seems very likely we'll be seeing a lot of all-kills in the earliest rounds!

Thanks for your mature post O.o You could have a team of pros for all I care, I just don't think a "university" (really a union of many many institutions) which encompasses around 120 thousand students (according to the UoL website) is really fair?
Anyway, it's upto the admins to decide.

If it were up to me I would have made the criteria more stringent, limiting the teams to universities only, with players having to be current students at said universities.
Then if a university cannot field a team, it's there problem. You don't see NBA teams borrowing players from the college league if they cannot field a full team, they would just get a DQ.
I think as is, this is just turning into a regular team league. I don't think people have even been asked to verify they attened the university they are down to play for, beyond them having a related email address e.g courseyearme@myuniversity.com (and some don't even have that).
Lol 'University of London' = 19 Colleges and Institutes. That sure seems fair. (P.s I don't have a clue who 'lau' and 'gomas' are and I don't care) My point is there's such a huge pool of players from all of these colleges that it seems unfair on others.

Yea rite...don't pretend like you don't know or care. So keen to eliminate competition. I suggest splitting the team into two teams then, so people feel like they have a chance.
It's not like we're all progamers or something. Let's just all compete and have fun. Obviously I wouldn't wish my team to face off against University of London in the first round. But no harm having a really strong team that is the favourite of the tournament.
For the first three months of SC2's release I was top 10~ in the world just because I massed games with a fucking terrible 42% win ratio. I 4 gated every game, playing Protoss, and abusing the fact 4 gate was overpowered until the Zealot nerf. A 60% win rate is nothing special: those players, albeit they may be very good, have relied on their s1 high MMR to secure their spot - and look at the games played for Lau, he's just massed games.
I stick by my opinion that everyone in Britain is fucking terrible, and bad ... Even DeMuSLiM isn't anything special - not compared to any of the "best" EU players ... ¬_¬

I'm pretty sure you could get 3 SC2 players from places like UCL, LSE, it's not like they are small Unis in any way. After all, this is only a pretty casual SC2 tourny for University teams with no announced prize pool so when Lau and Gomas are on the same team despite going to different Unis it is retarded.

I stick by my opinion that everyone in Britain is fucking terrible, and bad ... Even DeMuSLiM isn't anything special - not compared to any of the "best" EU players ... ¬_¬
UoL is stupid, its pretty much multiple unis in the same team... May as well have a northern England team, a Scottish team, Wales and Ireland if thats allowed cause it is the only way you could compete with them, seeing as it is pretty much a southern England team...rather than a one university

Right. Can we stop with all these dumb arguments please. They don't add anything new to the situation besides making people pissed off. London does not equate to the south of England, as much as Londoners such as myself like to think so. I'm sure the organisers know what they are doing and will make a call on what academic institutions are allowed to field teams. As a piece of advise, BUCS, which as an organisation probably knows the most about organising university competitions in this country, places all the London colleges as separate entities while Durham/Oxford/Cambridge/York are allowed to field combined teams.
Ultimately we want to see as many players play as possible and if this means some combined teams this is better than not having some enter. I think this is particularly relevant for 6th formers and other people still at school who wish to compete but might not have enough members for a team. Allowing them to represent their local university seems perfectly reasonable. I think combining the two universities in Manchester or Nottingham is rather iffy but like I said above, whatever the organisers feel is best :p

Yea, the admins have to match it because its not like they decide what the rules are.
Once all the teams are registered then we can talk balance but first can we just get attendance up.

OU basically has people everywhere. There's so many potential players it's unreal.
Just thought I'd add, I'm getting on the hype train and I think it might might derail and crash into hype rainbows if I'm not careful.

You don't force the USA to have multiple olympic teams because it's so big that probability gives it an advantage, so why should we do it to UCL?

The USA isn't the biggest country in terms of size or even population maybe?
Not really, it was just logged as 'dqed for maphacking', it was pretty obvious though once someone pointed it out and you looked at the replays against him from his camera view that he was making decisions based on information he didnt have.

I'm from the US, so I don't understand this, but why do you have separate teams for separate colleges within Oxford? In America we have different schools within the University, but for CSL the whole university competes as one.

Because Oxford is a city that has multiple schools, as is Briston, as is Brighton, as is London.
It's based upon school, not city.
I have been away over the weekend which is why the OP hasn't been updated, I am about to update it with everything I have missed over the weekend.
To everybody asking about the UoL Team, I will allow them to have 7 players, however, once they hit 8 I will have to speak to Gomas about the teams size and player oppitunities (I have done the same with Aberdeen, they decided to split into an A and B team so all the players are able to play).

I want to start by saying what a fantastic job you are doing with this, looking forward to it very much
It shouldn't be about the strength of the side UoL is putting out, it's about being consistent to make it fair.
Oxford do have separate colleges - but they each contain a maximum of 500 undergraduates. So the pool of people to draw from is much smaller than the separate London universities. Therefore we compete as a unified Oxford against other universities.
If each university should have its own team then London universities should have to separate because they are in no way a single university - they offer different degrees to each other from different institutions and separately compete in other university tournaments within different names. Their pool of players is enormous - it is effectively a conglomerate of 19 universities (some admittedly smaller than others) totalling over 120,000 students (according to their website anyway).
The logical reason that universities should be competing together is so that they can field a team - as far as I can work out you only need 3 players for a team and this combined team already have 7 players and would appear to have more in the waiting list. Clearly this isn't the same as Manchester and Man Met where they have 3 people between them.
The UoL team should be split into it's component universities, look for other players like the rest of us within their unis (not London) and then if necessary form teams between two unis - so UCL and Imperial for example if required. But surely the emphasis should be on everyone getting a go at participating and that I'm sure you'll agree that requiring a team of 7 against a minimum of 3 is nonsense.

so now Gomas and Lau play 2 of the 3 games and the team still wins every game, what's the difference?
I'm fairly sure OuL wouldn't be silly enough to put their GMs out first, their other members would want a game too.
The better solution would be to put them in separate teams if they're not from the same uni anyway. I would rather have a lot of GSTL style games, one of which is an all kill, than none at all.

you may feel this way but i assure you the vast majority of people (we checked) would like some chance of winning, remember there are more than 3 games in later rounds, teams wont be able to rely on 1 or 2 sick players to carry the whole team, which lets face it makes the whole thing more fun!
otherwise the winner is already a foregone conclusion, its worth noting that as you stated strong teams will still be strong, however it will feel less impossible for another team to compete now, and will benefit the league as a whole (remember, we want future season of this league, growing in popularity and prize pool each time hopefully) if we cannot deliver a competition worth watching without foregone conclusions, we can kiss goodbye to second, third, fourth, etc seasons (who will care if the same team is practically guaranteed to win the prize every time?)

I was mainly joking about the Gomas and Lau, This way more players from larger teams get to play games, instead of one player all killing the other players get a game or two.
This way all sense of representing your university or school is lost. I understand wanting to get greater levels of participation but ultimately if you want this to be more than just a random tournament only available to students, I would strongly favour the team format. I don't know about anyone else, but if we manage to get any kind of result in this I wanted to try and get the news in our university newspaper and get affiliated as a society. I feel like switching to a 1v1 format greatly reduces the ability I have to promote SC2 at my uni. Just my 2 cents.

The problem with UoL is not the amount of players, it's the fact that two of the top UK players are on the same team despite being at different unis.

People complaining about them having a strong team is just something that comes with the territory of having a strong team I guess.

we're glad for the positive response to the format change! it seemed especially appropriate to make the tournament feel less pre determined with the increasing of the prizepool, and equally important to make the league work so we can bring you more seasons after S1 is complete

Because of a change in tournament formats, team registrations are closing early, and teams are now required to have a minimum of 5 players, an increase of the current 3. If a team cannot get the 5 players from their current College/University they are required to use the 'looking for teams' list of players in the OP. If a team cannot meet the requirement of 5 players, they will be disqualified from the season on the 27th of April. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

I don't think I'm the only one not sure if I'm understanding this properly:
For the first rounds it's team best of 3s. There will be 3 individual games, each player plays an opposing player in a single game and the result contributes to the team score. So a team score result could be 2-1 if one team were to win two of their games and lose only one. Only 3 members of the 5 play at this stage of the competition.
If the team were to qualify for the next set of matches then 5 players would be required to play as it is a team best of 5, with the scoring system as above for the best of 3s.
In a match, say bo3 for example between team A and team B. How are the players chosen? Are the individual matchups random? Or do teams choose who to play against the other teams players? If so who field a player first?
Seohce, Players are sent out blindly for all games in a series, meaning both teams are unaware of who is playing for the other team untill they are both in the lobby. Teams chose the players they send.
FrozenFruit, The 3 games are not played simultaniously, but in succession, meaning when 1 matc has been played, the next match is played with the losing side picking the map.
With the change in format/numbers required, if one of the Oxford uni teams needs an extra player let me know, RudePlague.448 , I'm a plat level protoss.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make the first round of matches on the 30th.
Would like to note how it was quite amusing that the 1st comment on the 25th page was "The 25th" lol Will also blame low grades in exams solely on SC2 :D
and would like to say good job running this and its exciting being part of this potentially historic 1st UK Uni's SC2 tournament!
Because of many requests to join the team, the University of London team will be splitting into two groups, to allow everyone to participate actively in the UKUTL. We have 10 members at the moments, meaning that we can have two teams of 5 players which is the minimum under the new rules. Since we are from different institutions (although from the same university) I decided to split our team along those lines. The Royal Holloway, King’s College, and QMUL students will for one team. While LSE, UCL, and one student I don’t have info on yet, will form the second one.
Therefore out teams will look like this:
University of London Team 1: malagant.371 (captain) Ashkanani.356 Frost.647 Shovz.346 Solstafir.483
University of London Team 2: Gomas.302 (captain, m.mrugala@lse.ac.uk) Lau.937 Adwo.764 Robo.899 theSAiNT.772
I will get right to the point, I would like to talk to the organisers of this league I am interested in having my company associated with this league also.
please contact me via PM ASAP we would like to do a deal before the league starts.

Oxford teams have decided to merge because of the new member limit. I have also invited the 3 Oxford people on the looking for team list. Still waiting on a reply.
In any case I hope it's not too late!

Heya, is it possible for us to still add out last member to the league? The minimum 5 limit was a bit of a surprise but we got the people who can supplement our team and then make up the 5.
Disappointed by the changes made so quickly. I was organising a team for staffs and then due to needing more time (and assignments getting in the way) it took a little longer. Get 3 people involved and now we have to get 2 more and apparently the reg date has changed.
Would have been nice to see the dates pushed forward rather than pulled back.
After organizing teams before I generated the brackets a number of issues arose. There are only 30 teams, meaning we are accepting two more teams into the leauge on a first come first serve basis.
The following teams do not meet the 5 player requirement, This will mot become an issue untill the group states are over, so we will allow them to play untill that point.
University of Central Lancashire (2) Aston university (2) Falmouth Sixth Form (1) University of Leicester (2) University of Southampton (2) Barnwell School Sixth Form (2) Broxbourne Mandem (1) University of Surrey (1) Thames Valley University (1)

Can you add TipsyWhirl.453 and thesedge.471 to University of Surrey? I pm'd the captain a couple days ago and had no response yet so I figure I'll go direct.

We're plat zerg and terran.
I''ve added you. From what I understand their captain is out of town for a few days.

When's the final deadline for new additions tot he roster? There's a couple others who I'd like to add.
Because your team is already registered your final deadline is the 27th, and then 3 days before every match day thereafter. Your team now has enough members to compete. Good luck!
TVU need one more with the new rules - if we can't find anyone by the deadline i'll get a friend. Just realised the date has passed, can we still confirm the last person or not Joe?

Yup, you can add players into your roster up untill the 27th.

Sorry, your team will not be able to have a B Team.
Please note: Signups for new teams will be closing either when we get 1 more sign up, or at 5pm tomorrow. Earlier the final team registers, earlier the brackets go live.

I see you updated the first post to remove team members, could this be undone? I need to know who to get in contact with, I know it's all in the thread somewhere but.. not too keen on searching all the pages everytime
edit: nevermind, I found the team link ^^ However as the person below me said, some teams are missing.

Is it possible to delay a match?? BrTarolg is in our team. Or do we just do the "Resurrection Clause"? Also is there any specific time to play??
EDIT: Oh guess i'll find out on 27th.
Actually, everyting has already been posted. Resurtection Clause only comes into play after the group stages. Games are to be played Any time during the day, however to get casted it needs to be played at 6PM (Admins will decide what games will be casted and will delay matches as necessary to compensate for this.)

Will the casts be streamed with a small delay? 10 minutes would do, just to make sure people are not watching the stream while playing.
So Cardiff didn't get registered due to not having the 5 players? Even though I registered before that requirement and it was said it wouldn't be a problem til after the group stages? Awesome.

I've been trying to contact you through Battle.net for a while. Cranberries was DQ'd due to admitting map hacking. This put your team down to two players.
I've been away for a week (camping), so haven't had a chance to be online much. I didn't know that about Cranberries.. Fair enough then, maybe next season.

Ok, I'm probably going to sound really stupid here, but how do our first matches work? We are against Hull, does that mean 3 of us have to do a 1v1 each, and the first to 2 wins or...?

The idea seems to be each team sends out one player to play one game. The team that loses picks next map. Then each team sends out a new player. First to 2 wins. That's my understanding of it. I guess admins pick the first map.

Done, however your team still only has 3 members.
We can use the ‘Resurrection clause’ thing for both the bo5 and the bo7 right? Would love to enter more but can't find anyone else Unless there is someone from Stevenage or nearby that wants to join?
Not criticising, because this is a brilliant endevour - but the timing can't be that great? I mean, universities are all in their examination periods, or entering them within a few weeks. Along with finishing up projects/assignments its really difficult to find any time at all to practice

Spot on. The reason we arn't doing 3 BO3s is simply time, that means a maximum of 9 games in a set, if some of them manage to go on for 45 minutes, thats a large amount of time, especially since we start at 6pm.

Jus double checking what i was told by Bakor, he said it was up to us to schedule the time to play by contacting other team if times need to change and games played before friday at lastest. Reason saying this is work is 4-9 on sat hehe, so before or after shud b fine?
And my earlier question of the replay email address hasnt been answered. Is that typo deliberate?

LOL. Nice catch. "UKUTLeauge@gmail.com" on the rules page.:p I was told the same. Would help if we had the team captain emails. I'm in a similar situation of wanting to reschedule. I contacted Joe who got into contact with the opposing team but I don't really have a way to directly contact anyone besides finding them on B.Net.
EDIT: And as far as I know you can only play games earlier. Not later.
Games can only be played earlier, whether it be 1 game from a set, or multiple. Contacting an admin on B.net or IRC is the best way to go about this. Most of us hang out in #UKStarcraft on quakenet or can be found on ukstarcraft on battle.net.
Contacting the other team ahead of time saves us work and we would appreciate if it you could (Their names and codes are found on the teams page over at utl.ukstarcraft.net )

York cannot field a full team at 6 PM, Oxford can't field full teams at earlier times on both Friday and Saturday due to college exams. We'll probably end up playing some of the games today or tomorrow whenever both teams have members online. Would that be all right? Also, could we know the first map?

Hi, I have contacted the Edinburghe Napier Team captain about a possible rescedule. We are hoping to organise our members to potentially play Thursday evening or perhaps Friday afternoon. It could be just 1 game or the entire matchup. The details will be clarified as soon as possible. Would this be ok? Hence can you let us know the first map?

You can play 1 game ahead of time, First map is decided by veto. Which ever team is on the left of the schedule table gets first pick of the veto, this goes back and fourth untill one map remains. Replays must still be emailed to UKUTLeague@gmail.com. We are currently working on a much better system for all of this.
Thanks for the reply. What prevents us from playing the entire match early however out of curiosity. Surely wouldn't you want the players to play at ideal times if they weren't required to be casted? If its beneficial for both teams there are no drawbacks?

Sorry, I must have worded that badly, You can play more than one game ahead fo time, I thought you were only asking if you could play one. My Mistake, you can play an entire set ahead of time if needed.

Joe, how do the games work? Do we just get online, invite and play?
I would assume you might need a referee. And there's the whole selection of the first map that the admins need to go through.
I havent been able to resolve the scheduling issues concerning Napier v aberdeen and im about to go catch a flight, so if everyone could get in contact with Mikrosoft instead he will handle it. Thanks guys
I guess then Aberdeen will play versus Napier at the standard time then. I have told some of my team members to be online for the said time and hopefully they will talk to your team members and then play :D
Games are being played in roughly 50 minutes Join the channel UKUTL on bnet to discuss the games and meet with admins and refs to discuss any issues or concerns you may have.
First map is decided by veto, team on the left of the schedule (seen here: http://utl.ukstarcraft.net/standings/) get first pick of veto for this week. (It'll be higher seeded in the group for following weeks) From then on loser picks the map.
It is up to you guys to organize your games. Replays MUST be emailed to ukutleague@gmail.com
Thanks for all the hard work Joe the first day was very fun. Its a shame our group is so stacked ( 3 EU Grandmasters, including Lau and Gomas :> ) but it will be fun to see how this plays out!

Hey, Just browsing the TL forums then i found this thread. Seems like such a good idea! Was just wondering though the quality of play? plat/diamond/master? No point putting together a team that will get destroyed haha
Large variety of play, bronze is the only thing i havent seen. Think there are only 3 GMs that i know of. There are a few masters as well, but overall you shouldnt have any problems getting a team together that will have fun.

Actually there are a few bronzes, you just have to look around. A replay should be released next week of a set with a bronze guy.
Again, uber late to the party but I'd be really interested in getting involved in the second season. It's a long shot but anyone from Huddersfield around? I guess the satellite campuses Oldham/Barnsley might count too?

Is there any leverage of making games play at a later point in the evening/next day? I can't make it at 6pm games for Saturday. I have cricket all day and I don't finish playing until at least 7pm.

Or is it on a team basis?
You can play ahead of time, just you or your whole team, however we're not fond of the idea of people playing after 6pm.
Please note we are being more strict this week. If you cannot field enough players for a full set, this will count as a loss. If you believe you can take it 2-0, you may try, however if it comes to 1-1, you will take a loss. There is NO ressurection system anymore.
Replays MUST be sent to UKUTLeague@gmail.com from both teams involved and the subject must contain the two team names and the final score, E.g. TVU vs UoL2 2-1 and replays must be named accordingly, such as TVUvUOL-Game1
Failure to submit replays may result in your score not being updated.
All games must be played by 11PM BST Saturday and replays submitted.

Watched a few matches and loving it so far. Want to say well done, especially to new and nervous players. Getting the courage to compete in a league is a big step in itself, even if you don't win your matches I hope you gain alot from the experience and that you grow as a player as a result (after tournament nerves I bet laddering is a cakewalk ).

This is our final week of group games. In case you weren't aware, top two from each group advances. This weeks group stage will be different from the other two, as tie-break games will need to be played. If you believe your team has a chance to be tied with another team, please stay online after you have completed your set so that your tie-break games can be played if need be.
Please contact an admin with your result as soon as your first game has been played, and wait untill they have heard the results from the opposing game.
The tie-break game will be a standard BO3 set. Players that played in your teams first game of the day can be used again in the tie-break game, however standard rules apply in these sets.
Joe - I'm not going to be online for this round (I'm at work and I can't contact any of my team!) so can someone please message Zabimaru.905, or BiOhAzArD.877 to arrange todays games against UCL? I'm really sorry about this.
Hi, any friends from Nottingham Uni? Am keen to play some matches next season or something lol. I'm in the gaming society but they usually play console games (which i'm horrendously bad at... I always wonder why use the controller to aim and shoot when I can use keyboard and mice lol)
Hope everybody enjoyed today's games, Leon will be casting the other half of the bracket tomorrow from replays.. Also hope everybody liked the announcement, UTL vs CSL, July 2nd 8PM BST, I'm sure a thread about it will be appearing soon
Hey, if theres anyone from the staffordshire uni team, can u get in touch, pm me preferably. As im currently at studying at staffs and play SC2 and would love to get involved

Im not sure if i qualify for this as i am not at any uni at present, but if someone could get in touch to clarify it would be much appreciated.
