This seems to just be a test run. They didn't even mean to generate hype, it seems.

I'd rather new tourneys start small then promise big things and not deliver.

I can understand their choice to stay away from the more analytical commentators, and the ones they have chosen are by no means bad. I think the point is to try to get more non-players into the game, so the more "casual" casters make sense. I'm sure someone has already made this point.
Really looking forward to this, hope it takes off.

Agreed. That hype video posted last page was really well done! Looked like a nice studio, good editing. As with the NASL, we can't (or shouldn't, i guess) pass judgement until it starts.

Interesting that the owner of FOX is on board for this, or at least his company is. This might have interesting news for ESPORTS in the long run.

Saying Rupert Murdoch is going to directly affect eSports is like saying he chooses the songs on Glee. Correct, IGN is owned by News Corporation which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, but this is an IGN initiative, built by people who are passionate about gaming for people who are passionate about gaming.

I wasn't badmouthing it, merely pointing out that such a large organization getting on board for ESPORTS (News Corporation is freaking HUGE) could very well have an interesting impact on the scene. If IGN is doing this independently of the parent organization, I am of course quite a bit off the mark.

I feel sorry for Alex and Edward having to answer the same 5 questions while this caster rant goes on. Can't people just read the thread?

Its only about 360 posts. and even if you skim you will get your question answered at least 2 times.

Hope this goes really well for IGN and that streaming works well.

Is it just Alex and Edward working on it? from IGN that is? I understand there is a production team and all that.

@above

Ye theoretically 150k a year from IGN plus the 400k from NASL MLG 50k or the much harder chance of getting 600k max from GSL (ye that doesnt include the payments they get for being in GSL)

Theres more opportunities for idra to win here

This $150,000 tournament, plus MLG, plus NASL. Yes? I take it you didn't read anything before posting?

Actually, it seems like most of the negative posters in this thread can't read either.

MLG, IEM, DreamHack, NASL, IGN and other minor tournaments.
Idra definitely made the right choice
GSL is just one tournament, and once you got booted What will you do in 1 month? Also the fact that he's a one man team in Korea aswell with no real practice partners.

IGN made great choices and I am really excited about it !!! Better build up a fanbase, get shit together and become more experienced.
I was wondering, how come IGN or NASL didn't try to do commercials off youtube stars? Those guys get millions of views in matters of hours and wouldn't be too expensive to throw out few words about league and tag a link to their video

This is pretty awesome. uk.IGN.com is my #2 most visited site behind teamliquid.net. But why isn't any visible news on this on the main page yet? There's not even a link to the IPL subsection of the site anywhere (at least as far as I can see).

Good that you dont want to make it NA-only in the future. I mean, NA playerpool alone is not thaaat exiciting.

Wow! This is absolutely spectacular! Exactly what is needed to cultivate world class talent in the U.S. and even bigger than that expand SC2 and the Esports scene. I AM PUMPED!!!

this is so awesome, and with IGN backing it hopefully they will be able to have a smoother production than mlg. I dont like the line up of commentators though >.< I also like that theyre starting small with just NA hopefully that will help ensure quality and continued support

Its just so much going on right now which is friggin amazing!

This is awesome news indeed. For a test run, it's pretty damn promising. I see only good things with this.

Also, nice well rounded casting crew. I mean, Day9 is just one person so until we figure out a way to have him everywhere at the same time, this is as good as it gets.
