UPDATE TO INCLUDE FAQ 12.22.2010 FAQ: Do you have to be a college student? Is a high school student eligible to play? No, you do not have to be a college student, any student, high school included is eligible to play. If these conditions seem to exclude you but you feel like you should be able to play please contact us at CMStarLeague@gmail.com
What happens if we have too many registrations? We will have a qualifying round the weekend before; this will be played as a best of three. These games will also eventually be cast and uploaded to youtube. Qualifying rounds will have the first map set as Metalopolis and the loser will pick map for the best of 3.
Do you have to come to the venue in order to play? Yes, if this rule changes we will let you know.
Do I have to bring a laptop? In general yes, but we have the ability to make two or three exceptions at max. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please email us at CMStarLeague@gmail.com if you would like for us to make an exception. (Once we have made our maximum number of exceptions we cannot make any more due to our limited space)
How do I pay? We are working on opening a special bank account just for the tournament so that we can link it to paypal. Paypal is our expected method of payment.
Who is playing in the tournament? To ensure fair play and equal readiness we will release the bracket on Jan 25th and annouce any qualifying rounds on the 25th.
Will you cast my game? Games to be cast on game day are for sure the final match, the semifinals, and two of the quarter finals. We will try to cast as many of the other matches from the other rounds as time allows. However, after game day I will be working to cast all of the games that were played. A link will be available to the youtube account that I upload to.
Should I buy SC2 to play in this tournament? HECK YEAH! I think StarCraft II is the best game ever!
What is the average player ranking so far? We cannot say any more than that its diamond-platinum, based on fair play rules we cannot disclose more than this so that people have equal time to prepare for their matches when we release the full bracket.
Why is the prize pool so low for a 64 person tournament? Because we are required by the University to hire security, and use their audio staff, as well as several other things that cost nearly $4000. Additional costs also force us to take part of the registration fee to cover these fees. We are still looking for sponsors, so if you know companies that might be interested, please let us know. The stream will have spaces for banners and stuff.
I graduated recently, can I still play? If you graduated in May of 2010, we can probably make you an exception; no exception is needed if you are in grad school, ur still a student! If you feel like you should get an exception just contact us at cmstarleague@gmail.com and we will see what we can do.

awesome! let your friends who love starcraft know also! We hope to have a great turnout.
do you have to physically attend the event? cause I live in Cali.

do you have to physically attend the event? cause I live in Cali.
Sweet what about UMD students? Do we still need to pay an extra fee?
If you are coming to play, the fee applies to all students, even UMBC students. Unfortunately, we do not have enough sponsors to allow students from other schools to come in for free to spectate. The current fee is $5 but we are working as hard as we possibly can to reduce it. (players do not pay a $5 fee because registration covers this) However, we do plan on providing both lunch and dinner. We will have give-aways as well!
The answer to "do you have to physically attend?" is yes for now. We are going to talk about this among the admins to see if this is something that will change. We will post if anything changes to this rule.
$5 for lunch AND dinner? Wow you guys are awesome.
Looks awesome, I'm gonna talk to the JHU team and see how many we can get to attend. I plan on coming, at the very least.
Hey, we gotta provide for hungry people for the 14 hour event. We are working as hard as we can to make it $5 right now. Its not a promise but its something that is our goal and something that if we dont achieve we will consider to be a disaster.
Still looking for sponsors. If ur a possible sponsor and ur looking at this we are shooting for 300 people at the live event and hundreds more watching on our livestream! We have space for banners and booths and on our flyers! ...who am I kidding...
@ HyruleanTubist AWESOME! spread the word!
Can crescentia and I come and be the admins for the event?
Im currently writing the rules for staff. That would actually be great. The game room will need admins to make sure everyting is running smoothly and that the correct games are being held so that we can cast them, also picking out epic games so that if we have extra time on the stage we can go ahead and cast those. Ill let you know when we get closer to asking around for admins (which we call Judicators XD).

Oh dude, I was just joking, since he and I are the division admins for you guys in the CSL...hahaha. Wish I could come out there from Chicago to make it, but that can't happen anytime soon.

You fly me out there and I'll be there in a flash
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss. I am so there. Are we able to bring our own desktop, or does it have to be a laptop?
I think Blizzard doesn't allow tournies that charge entry fees. Maybe have a "Bring $5 if you want to eat" to bypass it? I don't know if they really care about small tournies anyways so you might sneak through.
We will allow exceptions for some desktops. please email cmstarleague@gmail.com if you would like an exception.
Yea i just realized that about the entry fees. In the case that they dont allow it. We will not even try to sneak around it. We will do everything in our power to provide free food in the case that we cannot charge entry fees. If in the end we cannot afford this, then we might sell food or beg for donations.

Yeah I don't see the problem with selling food or just saying "hey, we're going to order pizza, everyone pitch in if you want some." Or even go buy one of those ticket things they use for raffles and sell those for "meals," etc.
FAQ list has been added to the event description.
thanks everyone for the suggestions on the food and spectator fee problem. We will consider every option avaliable and make sure that we pick the one that is cheapest for everyone but one that still makes the tournament viable.
keep inviting people to join us for an awesome event!
I may try to come down from jersey for this.. Sounds like some serious fun
awesome man! Are you gonna play in it or just come to spectate? XD XD
I will end up casting all of the games played in the weeks to come.

At the begining of lunchtime we will be having a game on stage, in competition for some kind of prize. You must register for this IN PAIRS, that means you and a partner. I will draw lots on the day of the tournament to see who will be able to play in this game (three teams will be selected to play in this game). Please notice that this is going to be ON STAGE, so dont register if ur going to be embarrased about anything =P. Registration for this will be open all the way through lunch time. Knowledge about StarCraft II is required for you to do well in this game (will take about 15 minutes). Players in the tournament are also eligible to play. ADMINS AND VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS. SORRY!
register to cmstarleague@gmail.com with the subject LUNCHTIME GAME provide both or your real names and both of your email addresses, we will draw lots and call by name and just send one email for the both of you, i dont need an email from both team members.

Your best bet is to contact Blizzard about acquiring a temporary tournament licence for the day. You'll have to have all of your prices settled beforehand, but should be able to get a free licence that allows you to charge a facility entry fee. Pm me if you have any questions.
As Flux- said, the free license allows you to charge an entry fee for lan events, so you should be ok.
Also, are you guys casting live from this event? Do you have casters lined up already?
we have casters lined up and we are casting live =)
we havent chosen betweeen ustream or livestream yet its either going to be aegis-starcraft (ustream) or aegis_starcraft(livestream)
i have already contacted blizzard. they want information about our sponsors before they give us a license. which we are still working on.
i might be going to this
awesome XD as a player or as a spectator? =P
Schedule has been updated. Event will start at 9AM for spectators and players should arrive at 8AM (a full hour later than originally scheduled)
this is going to be a very long day if I end up driving down from Jersey lol
hopefully it will be a fun day too XD

REGISTRATION EXTENSION: Registration has been extended to Jan 29th. We are close to filling our roster and will try to fill it by extending the registration time. First game matchups will be released on Feb 2nd.
the tournament stream will be at www.livestream.com/AEgis_StarCraft Im not a member of TL for more than 3 months yet =( so I cant get it listed. But hopefully we can get some viewers =)
will their be vods of the stream?
Are there still fees for non-participants and the like? Specific directions?
As of the moment, there are still entry fees for non-umbc students.
Specific directions for arrival: If you are into looking at the UMBC map for yourself we are on the third floor of the University Center and in the University Ballroom. Parking is avaliable in lot 22 on Hilltop Road for free on the weekend.
If you are a MD provisional license driver, UMBC police are crazy about the curfew (I think its that you cant drive at 12-5am or something like that) and the other associated restrictions.
Images will be posted to our facebook page.
School is at 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore Maryland 21250
VODs will be avaliable at youtube.com/AEgisStarCraft2 when the event is said and done.
Stream will be at www.livestream.com/AEgis_StarCraft this stream is not listed because I havent been a member for 3 months yet.
