No they didn't, but they do now, and now people say he is the best zerg in the world. Yet he almost lost qualifiers. He's prob top10 zerg in the world, but players like nestea (and even zenio) are imo better. Zenio being better than Fruitdealer? Really? I didn't see any play from Zenio that compared to what Fruitdealer managed to do in the first season. Nestea is definitely a great player with great decision making, but I'd still give the nod to Fruitdealer (only slightly at best) since he won the GSL when zerg was actually underpowered and needed help, he was the underdog by a long shot in every ZvT he played. Nestea had a week to prepare for Boxer and he still lost the first two matches to the hyper-aggressive play style of Boxer, while Fruit was the first well known player to see how good Boxer and his style of play were and consequently lost 2-0. Managing to holdout as long as he did in game 2 was amazing, especially with losing his baneling nest on the first push and having to re-drone from being almost down 2:1 in drone count. Summed it up perfectly. NesTea dropped the first two games to BoxeR knowing EXACTLY what was coming, if it was a Bo7, I'm sure FD would've adjusted accordingly like NesTea. FD was amazing when Zerg sucked, and unfortunately ran into FoxeR early on. Put FD on NesTea's side of the bracket, NesTea would've lost to FoxeR 2-0 and we wouldn't even be talking about how FD is no longer a "great" Zerg. So what changed for Zerg that they no longer suck? Besides Roach range, I'm just slightly confused about this. It just seems to me that players are just getting better at playing the game and FD was the first to do so. Did you not see all the Terran nerfs? =/

Yeah, it does seem odd since there are tons of byes in the 1024 player bracket they are playing in, when there were supposed to be far more than 1024 people. That means like almost half the people no-showed.
* Note: The previous TL SC2 Opens had 1200+ total registrations (including waitlist) for only 500 slots, but only ~460 actually checked-in. 700+ no-shows from 1200 registrations at TL Open 3, and you don't even have to leave your house for that. People suck.

That's what I'm most worried about, too. HuK is a SOLID player, but I'm from the PvZ i saw in MLG's recently, he seems a bit wobbly. But, HuK is the guy who can recognize his own weaknesses, and knows what he has to do to HuKSmash.
He's got this.

It's not the buff to Roaches that helped Zerg the most, it's the changes to Terran early game. From the reaper nerf to the supply depot before barracks.

His raw skill basically carried him through GSL s1, 2 roach warrens at a time. I don't think anyone could freestyle in game as much as he does and have the talent to get away with it.
And some of his setups were the most detailed and extensive setups we have yet to see in sc2. His cookbook is polished, it's just his play style is very risky. Well I don't agree with that conclusion seeing as how much he had to improvise in s1 with the state zerg was in at that point. i think you're both right. He is good at improvising on the fly and he did have a solid strategy set in GSL1. It's just that his cookbook got outdated in GSL 2.
