Looks like the pool from Blizzcon. Going to be very competitive. Shame Idra isn't going since whoever wins will constantly get the "but you didn't have to play Idra" statements. I wonder if it's because of time, latency or because he simply doesn't like these people . Can't see how you can justify turning down a chance of at least $1,000 (guessing) for any of those reasons.
Oh, and qxc to win it all against Fenix in the finals. 3rd Dimaga 4th Huk. Calling it now.

I'd also like to see ret... ah well. Awesome idea though, big prize pool - should get exciting! Alas - (co-)cast by djweed? That guy knows surprisingly little about SC2 and his nasal voice is absolutely horrible for casting purposes. Urgh. Well, there's always the mute option I guess... and hey, Day9 should be able to make up for that. gl to the people taking part in the qualifiers.
this tournament has been in the works for a while, and so the list was made and confirmed a bit ago. this is one of the main reasons people like Ret or Tyler aren't in it, but be sure that if a couple slots open up they're high up on the replacement list. Also the qualifiers will probably be done through seeding process so Ret and Tyler's opportunity to qualify will be big if they decide to play on the qualifiers.
it should get added to the calendar dras, as you can see Xeris is kindly helping us organize this tournament, but i believe he's working on that.
On October 30 2010 09:09 Iamsmart wrote: For the qualifiers tournament - Where/when do we check in/send in results/view brackets?
Not having a checkin ... I will be posting a link to the bracket as soon as it launches (closing signups about 1 hour before the event so I can make the bracket).
when i tried going to "This thread" it locks up my browser dunno, can u still sign up for the tourney tomorrow? if so hypthefeared.464.. ill try later i guess
WoW... Great Line-up. Hopefully some more HuK SeleCT games. They seem to be playing each other a lot on featured tourneys. Can't wait. Although, HuK Fiiiiigggghhhtttttiiinnnnnggggggg.....

lol~ Too bad none of the players are properly seeded for some sort of steal draft. That would be hilarious to watch, even more entertaining than the games themselves.

* If you didn't get in, sorry signups are closed and I can't add people at this time * Format is changed, ALL rounds are now BO3 (due to only 128 man) * Check the thread for map pool
* You can start games now, but the official start time is 1pm EST.
Woah this is going to be a really sweet tournament.

Monx you should have better 'LAN organizing in the area of montreal multitasking' ^^
Can we get Cella? He said he was never contacted by anyone. I sent him a msg and he replied within a few seconds. I don't see how anyone would have any difficulty reaching him. Especially when he wanted to play in this.
signup thread was up for a week, I didn't see him sign up o-o;;
thought about inviting him, but i dont know him/no way to contact him, so just replaced him. usually if you want to participate in an event you should be proactive about expressing your interest. it's not like cella is an amazing player who should be coddled

I wouldn't do it either No offense to Cella but it seemed like every time he was asked to go on ITL he seems to forget :O~

If this is true all I have to say is: Holy Check.
To clarify, if he was removed due to not accepting an invitation (when someone else wasn't), then all I have to say is: Holy Check.
On October 31 2010 05:12 Liquid`HuK wrote: i talked to cella he said he was never notified that he was invited, i mean i wasnt either and i was invited as well. why was he removed?
I talked to you about it like 2 months ago via PM ;p
the only one on the list I didn't specifically get confirmation from was Socke
It was my birthday last night, so this morning I woke up and I was DRUNK. So drunk. I slowly got hungover and got really sick. Before my first match I puked 3 times and got to the computer shaking, barely held off the sickness and busted out the wins. If I never got a WO first round I wouldn't of even been able to play in this lol, at that moment I thought it would have been best to stay in bed. I maned up though. Good matches
Talkin to DjWheAt, from the looks of it he'll be casting as well so we'll have a great lineup of casters and players and tyrless it should be interesting to see how different casters work together but ofc we're gonna exploit mr Day9 as much as we can :D
This looks freakin sweet. I can't see where I can actually watch the cast. I went to Root's website but I don't think that's the place. Will it be a stream on here?
I actually played with taurent in a 2v2 random game... ofc we pwned the other team lol, and only later did i realize that he had a ton of points on the 1v1 ladder -,- i wonder how he'll do against tlo
Wow stacked event. Can't wait for this! Going to be some epic games. Glad to see Root is adding more to the community besides top tier skill and CatZ lol.
Good to see lots of Europeans that we did not get to see at MLG. WhiteRa FTW! Seriously, that guy should be playing a lot more tournaments. He is proof that not everyone needs to average 300 APM to win tournaments. At MLG, I would say his APM averaged around 180 to 200 at most times but he still kicked a lot of players butts. He is one player who most excites me because of his wonky strategies and ideas. I was sad to not see him at MLG but this tournament could make up for it.

Wow. We could spend an hour debating wheher the above switches were horrible or awesome. I'm going to miss Artosis and Morrow, because they're so involved in the TL.net community. But I love Cella and his stream, I know KawaiiRice is good, and I'm interested in DDoRo is.
Is day9 casting or not? The introductory text says yes but the matchup for the 13th says no. Also Day9 mentioned he had a weekend off in his last daily.
hey wat kind of shitty admining is this, no one texted me or sent me a fedex package with my match time vs qxc, do u seriously expect me to read ur peasant OP post for my match time? im a vip now

I'm puzzled that this isn't more "promoted". I just browsed this forum last night and luckily saw this post. Great prize pool and great players. Man I love that there's an SC2 tournament almost every weekend now being cast!
Yo, sending out some fatass PM's to players (again) now
Also, HuK... you crazy Korea user, match is tomorrow (you can play Geoff on Korean server). The full schedule can be found on the Root gaming website... however there may be some match delays due to players being difficult to contact as a result of the GSL.
the stream will be here on team liquid, I am not running the tournament, I thought it'd be up on the calendar but I don't see it on upcoming events... T_T either way keep checking the thread we'll announce it here if anything
Stay calm everybody, this is tough to organize, and Xeris is the absolute best at getting these things together. It'll happen, and I'll be excited to watch!
Sput it is not "confirmed" but Gretorp is covering the tournament and thats gretorps stream. <3 anyways not 100% confirmed but i threw the link up to maybe release some pressure off

a lot of people are supposed to be covering it, but no one is lol.... i think they are only allowed to cast from replays which sucksssssssss
On November 14 2010 02:41 Xeris wrote: Games going live in a few minutes, gretorp is getting out of the shower so he can look really manly for the cast
And who is streaming? Raelcun seems to know nothing, he just misses catz and is streaming european games.
wow seems to be incredibly bad planning. Let the users wait hope there are some left when it finally starts? Hope there will be replays available somewhere, don't really want to wait anymore.

In order for prize pools to be large, sponsors are needed. It's going to be tough to attract sponsors when nobody knows where or when the event is taking place
On November 14 2010 03:14 GetToDaChopa wrote: Is this whole thing going to be cast from Replays?
Looks like this is the case, yes. Since huk is in korea and probably at sleep now that it's 3am there, the odds of anything like live games are pretty low. I'm a bit sorry for xeris because he has to take the blame for the casters not getting their act together...
On November 14 2010 03:27 luke1304 wrote: Root sould ask EG for some input next time, they did their own event very well...
In all honesty the EG event was the best SC2 tournament I've seen. The quality of the games was spectacular and the planning and promotion were fantastic. I hope they do more of them.

Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter!
Actually srsly this would be great.
Also - if they are casting from replays, I demand that CatZ in fact cast CatZ.
Thought I overslept for this after watching GSL2, but replays casting is fine (for early rounds). Now hoping for some games sooner than later, hopefully some live coverage for semi-finals and final. Go Socke and TT1!
So, I guess it is going to be replays for the initial rounds and the semis and finals will get casted live. I just hope that's the case because that would be totally awesome. I think people got over-excited about the organization without realizing just how difficult it is to organize the entire thing. Anyway, all will be forgiven once we hear Gretorp's voice over the stream.
Gretorp had an emergency but he's ready to go (he's going to explain). So games should begin.
So sorry for the delay everyone >___>! ANYWHO, it's my birthday and I gotta run, but the games are coming up shortly. I will update with full results of this round tomorrow morning, hope you all enjoy the games and once again really sorry for the delays and miscommunication

What is the status of the streaming? Is it over? Has it already begun? I tuned in like three hours ago and there was nothing (a shower emergency or something like that), i tuned in again and stilll nothing?! I'm a little bit confused (alright - very confused).
On November 14 2010 04:58 zemiron wrote: What matches have been shown so far? I've seen TLO vs. Taurent and Machine vs. Fenix. Any other have been shown?
Funny, In India, I am getting the stream perfectly with zero lag whatsoever. Don't know what the issue is. However, I have to say that a bad cold is making Gretorp's voice sound that much sexier.
CellaWerra, we need to play our match sometime. I contacted you in-game (US servers) a few hours ago about playing our match, but seems you were afk. No worries, we can get the games in sometime today / tomorrow... please pm me with the times you can play and/or ID so we can get in contact and get these games played.

He almost gave up when he realized that he missed his game, but I sent him a link to your post.
Ohh yeah sorry just found it too. Hm, that's really bad that they didn't add times and especially didn't inform the players. O_O
If it's like yesterday, then it should be at 1:00 KST no? ^^ However, i don't know anything as this tournament really seems to be poorly organized, hopefully that'll change soon.. :/
Xeris is the one incharge of this. It's was his birthday, so chances are you might no see any info till tomorrow. Matches will probably be postponed to a different time.
Shouldn't have everything dependent on one person. Any tournament needs to have at least three people in charge making sure everything is running smoothly. Root gaming has been rooted.
Yo guys. It was my birthday yesterday, I'm spending time with my gf, I'm not online at all hours of the day. HOWEVER, have no fear.. everything will run nicely :p
The winners + losers game will be scheduled (I'm going to pm players about it) for the coming week, the reason being (obviously) not everyone played their first match due to several players in this tournament being in the GSL and leaving for Korea this weekend. As such, some first matches still need to be played.
Going to have a recast of all the first matches this week too, expect the winners + losers games next weekend, then the ro16 will start.
Have patience folks, despite me having a real life this week, I am setting enough time to SC to get this all done! Thanks for understanding ~~
jesus i really wanted to get some info about the game of killer vs dimaga to make some coverage of our chilean gamer fighting but there is absolutely nothing... And it's amazing the lack of information.
Some constructive criticism: what appears to have happened is that the visitors at the TL website and perhaps also some of the participants, were confused as to the format of the competition. For one, I was under the impression this tournament was going to take place or be casted like the EG weekend or the MLG, where people would sit for a few hours and it would wrap itself up over the course of a day or 2. When I saw the stream was offline despite the games having been announced to begin yesterday, I wasn't quite sure what was happening. When I went to the root gaming websites, the information was also not obvious to find. We are all just excited to see some good games between these players. A post explaining the set up how we can expect this to unfold is all that's needed, imho.

People expected a clear schedule of who played against whom and when, preferably with brackets, dates and a clear overview of the rules - is the first round BO1? which maps have to be played? etc. And also a casting plan á la "game 1 is casted at 11:00 by Day9, game 2 is casted at 13:00 by someone else".
What we got was an OP here on TL with nothing but a banner and groups with some player names; no brackets, no schedule, no clear tournament rules. The thread on root-gaming did provide some more information, but was still less clear regarding the general conditions compared to other recent tournaments.
Anyway, I hope you had a nice birthday and I'm looking forward to some amazing games and an interesting tournament coverage.
Thanks for the feedback. The reason things weren't as clear is because it's difficult to coordinate all these players especially given different servers, regions, and a handful flying over to Korea for GSL. I think for a tournament such as this its easier to play it a bit more freely, especially in the early rounds.

This is understandable..but....why not put THIS exact post in your OP
So that everyone knows that some games will be played later on/etc. because originally I was very confused what was going on in general, if some players just dropped out, didn't show ort wtf was going on.
Also it would be nice to update the OP regarding VODs/replays...I know this has been asked in this thread, but I just can't happen to find the post and now I'm feeling stupid to have to ask this "again". I'd be particularly interested in TT1 vs qxc.

As soon as I get ahold of Gretorp, I'll put a link to the vods, I'm also planning on having a re-cast of R1 games with CatZ and Raelcun this week (waiting to hear from them about their availability).

Oh ok xeris, I withdraw my critic.
But at the website I only knew that Killer beated dimaga, but no idea if it was 2-0 or 2-1, and wich maps were played and if replays were or not avaliable and when would the next match be and how the streams worked.
a few have been delayed due to LAN events (I.E. KiLLeR and Fenix), and GSL (Sen), but otherwise everything else is played. All the matches will be finished by the weekend so the next stages will progress on time
Probably 0? When does GSL start tonight? The cast starts at 9pm EST, lets say it will run for about 4 hours... so if GSL is the usual 5am EST, it'll probably run RIGHT into GSL?

Just tuned in and listened to the commentary with the man with the weird accent. Just learned it was Catz, and he gave out some really useful play tips and thought processes that now he has +1 fan and stream viewer.
VERY wp by kiwikaki. so many times I thought Machine was just going to overrun him(even like 50 supply ahead at one point). But Kiwi had such great forcefields to seperate the hydras, and knock em out with void rays.
Even a mother ship! Highly recommend people to watch the game, if VODS are indeed going to come up later.

If they are going to keep casting replays they should do what TL does and not give away the outcomes of BO3's and put up a fake game 3 even if only 2 games were played. Either that or don't show the screen when they load the replay.
Man sen played amazing those games and wow qxc in that last game. How on earth did he stay in that game for so long. That was just ... wow I'm speechless. Also great great casting by gretorp and catz. Gretorp is just sick
GOOOO SEAN!! This is epic, greatest NA team and greatest NA caster (dare I say world?) What could be better? (Have artosis co-cast and I'll be even happier xD!) Anyway this is looking epic: )
16 hatch, 16 pool - this is the greediest opening i've seen lately And he was still able to effectively stop the reapers - amazing! When Dimaga is on fire, he crushes nerd skulls!
Dimaga was able to fend that off because Drewbie somehow doesn't put full effort in his early rush. It was a half-ass rush at most. If he bring 2nd scvs and block the ramp with another barrack, the game may gone into a very difference way
Very cool style by Dimaga. Plays just like one of my friends cept 10x better. I'd like to see more zergs with that roach infestor style. Every game I see is pretty much muta sling bling.

It isn't live and whitera will probably 4/5gate anyways.
Go watch the final game of that series (whitera vs morrow) and quit your whining.. play to win; he is a beast in whatever form he chooses to play..
I'm not whining I'm just saying he'll probably go for that. Hes not even that great idk why your calling him a beast.
He has a solid/consistently strong performance at every European tournament he participates in.. SEn has a shot though because he is such a baller; but please don't discount White-Ra's ability..
White-ra's play in the Homestory Cup was amazing, beating Cloud, TLO, Demuslim, and Naniwa twice. You cannot say that he is a one trick pony. His micro vs Naniwa was phenomenal, taking out 2 collosi with 2 immortals and a warp prism, and stopping a 4gate even against the pylon ramp glitch
WhiteRa has been doing consistenly well since the beta (had a slump right around the time he got married, but thats not surprising). And he is nicknamed the beast from the east by the community so its not so strange that somebody calls him a beast. Even Day[9] calls him a beast.
Rooting for WhiteRa even If il like Sen a lot. It should be a great match ! And btw, WhiteRa is not a one trick pony, he has been doing well since sc1 and he is one of the few to show consistency in his results, never ever undestimate him (I'm quite surprised that some people thinks he's not enough skilled for this game); his achievements are longer than the great wall of China.
It's not really cheese to respond to hatch first with a forge in close positions...it wins almost guaranteed. Really Sen's fault for going hatch first.

well when your in close position or in maps like blistering sand or scrap I think you should go with a build that is guarantee a win and not let play what zerg's are comfortable at If you play passive in close position and let zerg's econ kick in, you'll be over run by roaches anytime soon

Definately not a beast? Anyone that can dominate SEn like this has to have some beastlike qualities
White-ra have proven to be one of the best foreign protoss out there since beta days So he is a beast :D He even had a huge break and still coming back strong

He hasn't won this yet. He's won Homestory 2 which was 1750 euros (around $2300) and SCreddit tournament which was $1200. If he wins this he gets $2000. So he's 1 game away from making around $5.5k today. Unbelievable.

The SCReddit tournament was casted off a replay so it was not today.. but meh semantics that is some nice cash for a computer game hehe

Yeah, 3 Zergs all getting rofl-stomped in 3 separate tourneys broadcasted on the same day. So much pwnage - probably a record.

He technically beat Nani for the GFs of Homestory.

I thought this was #3? He won 4?
White-Ra, single handedly raising the GDP of Ukraine in one day.
Sen made just a few small mistakes that game. He didn't target fire the first collosus when thermal lance was still not upgraded. That would've enabled him to keep that nydus worm alive for a little longer. And when whitera was making his push Sen didn't have any lings at his watchtowers and the push made Sen overcommit to defending before he had all his corrupters out. Sen attacked with 2 corrupters when he had 8 making. He could've waited just a few seconds later.

So you counted SEn and MorroW out because it was a ZvP .. why even attempt to try take away how amazing this is!? Ignore your silly perception of balance - WhiteRa has beaten Naniwa, Morrow and Sen .. that is incredible regardless of what race or map they played on..
WhiteRa late game decision is so good. If he can work on the small mistakes(no probes on gas and a few idle probes at his mineral in game 3 for example), he'll take a lot of tournaments this year. I loved how he used the fact Sen knocked the rocks to his advantage in game 2, I would have never thought of that, and I guess Sen didn't either.
Edit: Did Naniwa really say his PvP was bad? He won 72% of his PvP based off of TLPD. Doesn't seem that bad to me. Also WhiteRa's is 35%, but he hasn't played that much PvP.
You gotta admit, WhiteRa is a hugely talented player, and I think he could do very well in GSL/Korea. However, if I am not mistaken, he has a wife in Ukraine and is probably not keen to do a big move any time soon. Watching him be top 5 in the European + Foreign scene in general is pretty cool.

As much as i want him in GSL, he will probably stay in Ukraine. He will prob make more money not entering GSL and just from winning foreign tournaments. Sure he will get more famous if he enters GSL but he got a family and we will see him more in different tourneys since GSL takes a lot of time.

Its not whitera or sen, its Protoss. I mean cmon, when do you ever see a GOOD zerg beat a GOOD protoss, both even levels? Even idra got taken out by some noob code A protoss. ZvP favors protoss so much

Dont try to lessen his achivement by blaming imbalance please. And IdrA took out NexGenius in GSL resently. And in the SCRI Morrow took out both Kiwikaki and Minigun, and Machine took out TT1. Plenty of good zerg have taken out protoss just resently.

You are wrong. Poc - putz. Yiddish word. putz (pts) n. 1. Slang A fool; an idiot. 2. Vulgar Slang A penis. So it is like "I am so putz.". (I am such a fool) I dont know why we are discussing this... White-Ra da boss.

Congratulations White-Ra!
It was a single game where Idra beat Genius. that really doesnt say anything. Idra himself said before the match, that he cant see how he could win. Pretty sure he loses the majority of the games versus him.
I dont think there is any zerg at least in the foreign scene that could win a longer series against WhiteRa, Naniwa or even Socke.

Dimaga, in the Root Warzone tournament, lost to White-ra 3-1. After he lost all his stuff, he said Pizdec ya poc before GGing out.

Morrow took out Socke in a Bo3 in EU Craftcup resently. Then he lost to Naniwa in the finals but it is not impossible.
And correct me if i am wrong but did not Ciara (Z) knock out White-Ra from TSL Open #8?
But Naniwa and White-Ra have a really impressive record against Zergs, but even they are far from unbeatable in my opinion. Dont think Naniwa has lost against a zerg (in a tournament) sinze Ret beat him in that showmatch/Koth thing around Novemeber. But could be missing something.

I often rally my workers to go to gas harvesting after a build command. I think Day9 is a bit harsh when complaining about gas unless he explores possibilities like that just a little more. I guess I'm more willing to believe it's not a mistake when a pro player leaves 2 on gas, but as I said I do rally things like that often enough. Or I hatch 3 drones into gas quite often, as it saves me time since it's just easier for me to control. It might not be optimal, but that's true of my entire play. Btw I play random, I'm not implying I give drones commands after morphing into buildings :D.
I loved that about the rocks. Jinro also did that.

Naniwa has two styles against zerg. Cannon-rush and 4 gate. I'm so not kidding, check out the games of yesterday Nani vs lalush if you don't believe me.
White-ra's style couldn't be more different, slow tech to a colossus/voidray ball of 3 base. I'm writing this, because this is imo the biggest problem for zergs in ZvP right now. Zerg can die vs a decent 4 gate as easily as vs a macro-toss-deathball. Both styles require totally different responses and zerg has to scout and react perfectly. Zerg is vs toss in a similar situation as toss is vs terran - if they don't adapt perfectly to the specific strat, they just die a painful death.
Lastly, I'd like to thank our sponsor, Dreamhost for making this tournament possible. It's been great working with them, and it is nice to see a more unconventional sponsor for a SC2 tournament - hopefully more companies will follow their example and jump into the game! I hope everyone will check them out and consider their web hosting service if ever you want some great hosting.
Thanks also to Root Gaming!! <3 everyone hope you all enjoyed the tournament
"pizdec ya poc" i mean "Fuck im idiot" in that situation sorry for that ^^ i was pissed cause i can win that game if i just stay home and get hydras more P.S. thx everybody for supporting and big thx for such greate event !!
Pizdec — "God f-ng damn it" (it should be written as "pizdets") Ya — I am Poc (should be written as "pots") — that's derivative of the word "patsan". That's a complex culture thing, overall patsan is a guy who feels comfortable on streets (meaning that he's not a victim, he would give a punch himself) and who has connection to another patsans. For instance, every street bandin it a "patsan". Now, as you can guess, patsans are pretty straight-forward men and don't show any sings of high intellect, and when you extract this exact quality, you get "pots". Something like that.
