You guys are pretty clever playing these games in advance. +1 to HDH
I'm not too thrilled about day vs tasteless I hope they got better since the HDH because their games were painful to watch. The commentator who said it was 'strategic' by dropping like 6 rax at once was pretty funny. He was behind on his macro... nothing strategic about that.
I'll still watch though since nothing else to do. :D
Holy Crap! This is gonna be exciting. And btw Day9 looks so sexy in that picture. He needs to go back to that style. It makes me not believe hes a geek!
I didn't pay attention, saw that Husky, say "this guy speaks the truth." My bad.
Thanks for bringing us more awesomeness HD/Husky. You guys are super heroes... no doubt. What a great tidbit to tide us over while Beta is down! This will truly be THE event of the downtime!!!
Needless to say, I'm a huge fan of both the Plott brothers. GL gentlemen.
LOL, I just googled tasteless because I wanted to see what popped up, due to the fact that i'm really tired and need sleep, and here were two hilarious pic that need to get photoshopped, ASAP!!! + Show Spoiler +
God that picture made me shoot a load with the force of 20 billion suns. I don't know who to root for, but will watch intently none the less(with a raging hardon)!
Awesome, didn't see this one coming!! This is masterful planning by you guys.
One thing: you should mark this with [HDH] in the topic, and twitter it too! I didn't expect anything like this to pop up during beta downtime so haven't bothered with checking the tournament section for ages, I actually just misclicked when I found this. Had the topic said [HDH], I would have been like WTF and clicked it for sure.
Can't wait for this. Gives me something to do when it's 100°F outside this weekend.
Looking very California in that pic there Sean. I would almost swear you were a surfer based on that. Had to give up my surfing days when I moved east.

Yeah it's enough to suppress all Starcraft ambition I could ever have. Imagine getting a showcase match of your own and being paired against hunks like that? People are going to look at the banner and wonder why this greek god is playing against some weird looking dog.
The game is so imbalanced; no matter how much you try, you will never look as good.

Good advice. Now all he needs to do is to travel back in time and use them for the matches. No biggie.

Realistically if there was money involved the Plott brothers would be paying HD and Husky for the potential 1.5 million views the showmatch would get across all games. They control and shape the public perception of all players, so you want to be in their good graces. This will translate Day[9] to his stream getting much more attention from the youtube crowd and maybe tasteless' sites getting more revenue.

This is backwards; you're trying to say that HD & H is more popular than the collective fanbase of the Plott brothers? Putting aside the fact that this is jsut a great thing to be doing for a moment, who do you truly think is going to benefit more from this? Sean and Nick for being casted by HDH... or HDH because they're casting the forementioned?
I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in thinking that I'm not gonna be tuning in to this for Husky's and HD's casting, whoever the players may be - I'm tuning in because it's freakin' DayNine Vs Tasteless!

You think HDH have power over the community and the Plotts don't? I'm sorry the Plott's have been around 5x longer than HDH combined, they commentate for REAL tournaments like WCG and Blizzcon, it truly truly is the other way around, don't kid yourself just because HDH got subscribers for putting up battle reports on youtube back in 2009.
IMO Tasteless is gonna take this, Day9 has been commentating games for so long while Tasteless hs been gaining as much knowledge and trying to be the best he can before diving in to casting.
Many of you need to read intrigues thread about trolling. It's not hating on someone because you disagree with a point. A year ago nobody knew about HDH, for almost 10 years people have known about Tasteless and Day9, I'm not hating on HDH my point is that you can't say that Tasteless and Day9 are these no name players who are benefitting from exposure when it is the other way around. HD and Husky are gaining viewership by putting together these two EXTREMELY high profile players.
If you put together a White-Ra and IdrA show match do you think that IdrA and WhiteRa would pay HDH to commentate it? Since obviously those two will gain exposure? Obviously not. Please be reasonable before you go around calling me, Sheth, etc. haters for pointing out some pretty obvious statistics.

I don't think this is about exposure of these individual entities as much as it's about projecting e-sports as something fun and interesting and popular. It's all about breaching the surface. And what better way to do it than with the inclusion of 4 huge names right now. Seems like an intelligent move across the board. (But it doesn't surprise me that people are focusing on the wrong thing as usual~)
It'll be an exciting day when Starcraft 2 VODs are spiking a million+ views on youtube. A bit of a wake up call to people who thought games are for unkempt, socially awkward failures-at-the-norm who eat pizza bagels all day. Just a little bit of an overdue breaking down of that smelly stereotype.
HD and Husky have been encouraged to do more cool stuff for and with the community. They've also said they want to do more with Sean and Nick (tournaments and casting projects and what have you), and this is one of those doin' more thangs. Expect to see tons more collaboration between these four in the future.
Wow, this is like the most needless internet drama. The showmatch is an obvious win-win for everyone involved, participants, casters and sponsor alike, yet somehow it's being depicted as a situation where one of the parties involved is taking advantage of the other.
Sean is so fucking sexy, same with Nick, casting from replays kinda takes away from it for me because I feel like the games casted can't change because they are replays..:p

I want to mention that the entire series is half gameplay and half interviews/post game analysis. Each 'interview' will happen directly after the games.

any reason you first announced it on youtube so late ? wouldn't it be better to do it some days before, so more people could know about it?
Or are you afraid your stream will get overloaded ? concidering there was 20k viewers with the HDH finals

Well, actually I would'nt be surprised if there was the same number of people today ! Fortunately it begins right after the soccer game !
Trust me, when i saw the 20k(it was above that btw) i was like "o_0 omg" i bet husky & HD was jumping of happiness of seeing those numbers in their LIVE cast :D
I know 20k, pretty rediculous for such a small tournament. Imagine when MLG get their hands on SC2. With all the top players, and huge prize money. Damn, that's going to be exciting. SC2 for MLG 2010! I heard day 9 and HD are going to commentate. I can't fucking wait

It was 50k unique views and 25k simultaneous live viewers during the stream, I'm pretty sure ustream has never had such an amount watching one stream at the same time.
Now we remember that the game is still in beta stages. I am pretty sure we're heading towards the biggest western esports boom that has ever happened as the game gets released.
Well I was just so sure it was gonna be casted on the 20th, which seems to be the case, but for us it'll turn into 21st shortly after it started. Simply thought it was earlier to begin with.

Shortly is a bit relative. If you live in Sweden, that's one and a half hour before midnight it will be streamed. Also considering this is a US event, that is a pretty reasonable time imo. In worst case you'll just have to wait for the YT vids to be posted.
Those who are restless and just waiting for the showmatch i suggest you to watch Day Nine's amazing life story about how he grow up with starcraft if you haven't already, around 2h, 12 parts. Really cool and touching story!

I never argued about the time and how it's resonable or not, I just asked the question since I remembered it diffrently from when this was posted. Obviously I was wrong but wanted to make sure.
If you wanna call shortly relative that's fine, the event will go into the 21st regardless.
And yes ofc I will have to wait for the youtube vids and I'll do that happily. The point of my post was to make sure I was wrong since I had planned to watch this live and now cannot - see my disappointment?

You should probably put Day9's other info in the OP. Or at least in the OP of the VoD section when that comes about. Not that people won't be able to find his ustream/bliptv pages through his youtube, it just makes sense to have all of them. Takes 2 seconds!

I just found it strange that you pointed out that it will go into the 21th when it's a completely reasonable time for an American event (meaning it will usually will go into the 21th). And there is always some place on earth were it will go into the 21th regardless of when it starts so it isn't a very good reasoning either.

I agree with most of this. DownloadThemAll is great.
I'm not sure about its non-porn applications though. Sounds like it could have utility.
pretty sure HD just spoiled the amount of games on the stream by showing what he had / has downloading. gg. now all i'm hoping is that he downloaded the games out of order (unlikely).
Overflow channels are not auto slow-mode. Only the main. We need a chat mod or slow-mode via IRC to all the overflows. I send info, or hey if you're really feeling bold, mod me on ustream on the same username.

If you can do !moderateon in the flash chat, it will mute everybody until you do !moderateoff
If you have IRC (download mIRC for firefox..), this sets slow mode: /server c.ustream.tv /join #hdstarcraft /mode #hdstarcraft +m /mode #hdstarcraft_1 +m (overflow channel #1) etc etc for hdstarcraft_1_1 (next overflow channel) and so on.
If all else fails, if you type !911 and the ustream bot is in the channel, ustream chat mods will come help. Hopefully you can get one of those commands in on time..
If you expect to have more than 1k users simultaneously chatting in the chat room, Ustream needs to be notified ASAP. Please email events@ustream.tv To become the moderator of a show: 1. Log into account 2. Go to “Your Shows” 3. Click “Advanced” 4. Under “Persistent chat moderators” type in username of person you would like as moderator and click on their name in drop down menu 5. Click save changes 6. Once the moderator has been added, go to channel URL (http://ustream.tv/channel/…..), moderator username will show up in blue As a moderator, if you click on a user’s name in the chat window, a drop-down menu will pop-up and give you a variety of options
I know that there's also a #help channel on the ustream IRC. I don't think I can represent anybody since you are H to the usky and not me, but...it's there. :|

Did he really say that? The casting was actually live during the games were played so it couldn't be in the game commentary unless they've invented a time machine. He said it before the video of the games started or what? fuck :/

I appreciate you guys setting up some great games, but here are some things you might want to think about.
Might want to download the recording and test it before the day of the stream. If you needed time to test it, you could have simply pushed back the time a little bit before everyone started tuning in, since it's all pre recorded. Keeping 6 thousand viewers waiting for 30 minutes just seems like a big deal to me.
Also, why even stream this if you're just going to play a recording? You could have easily just uploaded it on YouTube along with your announcement and given everyone a high definition series.
The live chat really doesn't add much to the games.
Possibly a certain area that cant view the stream?
Im in southern California and have tried on 3 different browsers, going to TL stream and ustream. Still nothing, only chat and loading circle with "related videos" over the top of it

Well I was meaning from the stream. I could see if someone knew the results and did it but otherwise no .
No offense HD and husky but I'd much rather tastless and day9 commentate on their own games. They've never done anything together which makes me a sad pandabearguy. I wonder what sort of on air chemistry the two would have.

Pretty sure they re-ordered the games for dramatic effect. This kind of feels like a lip-synch'd concert.

SoCal AT&T No live stream. No problem with the on demand videos. Tried both firefox and Safari. Hmn no clue. Well can't wait to see it on demand/ youtube hopefully ^_^
edit: Confirm. djWHEAT's stream is running just fine for me. Odd. Well just FYI
Thanks for setting this up Husky and HD, mad props! And thank you to the Plott brothers for being awesome and whatnot! Took my mind of the fact that the beta is down, atleast for a couple'o hours! <3
yeah me too, I was under the impression Tasteless was playing a lot and playing really well. He did kinda throw away one game I really dont think that his build on metalopsis is something he would go in a tourney. Not to take anything away from day, he played very well much better then he did in the HDH
Awesome series and was really great to hear Sean and Nick talk about their games.
Would be great if you would consider casting the replays and doing the post game chats live though. It might just be me but I feel it detracts from the event so much knowing that it's just HD sat at his computer queueing up video and sound files.
Also, for the the love of The Thoughthammer get some mods in the chat >.>

TERRIFIC job, HDH. I've been critical of your commentary in the past, but I feel like you guys are super committed to improving and gaining all that experience you need to be accurate and insightful, and it's showing. You did very well with these games, they were great games, and the post-game interviews are absolutely something you need to keep doing! Keep up your enthusiasm for the western e-Sports scene, keep working with your sponsors, and keep casting these kind of events. I'm definitely there for Jinro/TLO vs Artosis/qxc.

Pretty certain that Tasteless is still working while it's summer vacation for Day[9], so I wouldn't be surprised if Sean just had a lot more time to practice...

Nope you're absolutely wrong grad students don't get summers off. Ontop of being a grad student, Day 9 has an internship. Also, Tasteless has been doing no casting only playing beta while it was still going on.
Yeah I agree it is quite fishy. It occurred while watching Day9, and I think the quote was "The HDH Showmatch today had 9K viewers and no lag". No meme referenced but still not reputable. However It wouldn't surprise me if true, The day 9 daily usually shows about 2 - 2.5k users but Day reported 6K unique views some times. If the displayed number was 4K or so then the unique number was probably double that over the course of the event. I
would love to hear the official numbers the the casters though... please.

Before BP killed the stream I saw it had over 8k viewers (and remarked to Husky about that). I imagine as the world cup matches ended that it climbed higher.
When I joined the stream at the beginning it was nearly 8k viewers. Later on the info about the number of people watching disappeared though. I don't know why. I guess it would be even higher because the 8k I mentioned was when the games haven't even begun.

The games were played before the beta ended when Day9 still had school and now he is working and Tasteless have said in the interviews that he have been practicing a lot, or well playing a lot, not specifically practicing. But I guess day9 could have squeezed in some practice time

It was probably far over 10k viewers, the HDH finals had 25k+ simultaneous viewers and semi-finals I think was 18k.
You guys should really not be pointing out player errors as the central focus of your commentaries, especially not when the players are way better then yourself, I mean pointing it out is fine if it is significant, but really going on and on about some mistake trivial or not really just makes you guys come across as bashing on the players.

What sports commentators doesn't point out when players make mistakes? And I have never felt them coming across as bashing the players.

I thought this at first but tbh they only do that if theres nothing else at the moment going on that you can say anything at all about, and also, a lot of newer players look to HD and husky to get them started with the basics, so they are obliged in the interest of teaching their fans to point out common or obvious mistakes :p

Commentators are there to hype up the game and make it feel awesome, if they are constantly pointing out mistakes of the players it devalues the presented match in a way, I think you will find that a lot of sports commentators try really hard to point out the good things the players are doing instead of focusing on the negatives. It's of course difficult to find much good to say when commentating on an activity where one participant is wiping the floor with the other, but that is rarely the case in these HDH casts as they usually involve high level starcraft play from both sides. (I was not really talking about this series in particular as it's a general theme I've noticed in a lot of previous HDH casts as well)

I think that its crazy that people would suggest they shouldn't point out every error because starcraft can only take 1 error and its game over, and the newer even older players can still learn, if tasteless and day9 who are semi-pro make these mistakes then its sure the vast majority mite too and it will help all of us learn, the more you hear about it the more your likely to remember

I also find they sometimes point out things as "mistakes" or things the player should be doing but in fact what they suggesting the player should be doing is completely wrong. I cringe a bit when this happens but I guess this is just due to being inexperienced and will come in time.
I have to say I loved the talk about poor Day9s Phoenix. When the game ended the thing I cared about most was if it had survived! Great casting guys keep it up, can't wait for round 2!
I watched this show match on mute because I can’t stand either commentator- no offense to them, I can appreciate all the great things they’re doing for the community, but I just can’t get along with their voices/style/ lacking strategic depth.
I suppose a thanks for the show match of two great players and personalities is in order though.

I can't believe you actually think this. It is a commentators job to analyze the event they're watching. This included good play, bad play, and stupid play. They're not just there to hype the game and "make it feel awesome" ( are you 12? )
