It's so hard to pick, Casual atmosphere rocks but Diverse casting makes it so dynamic aswell. The event is so great though, I love it, such a good idea!

Could I not choose all of the above?

Casual atmosphere is the best I'd say, but the diverse casting is amazing as well, and there are so many great players too.

The Production Value is also amazing. So many cameras/interviews, and everything is working perfectly.

The hsc really surprised me. Unlike other big sc2 events which are very similar in "feeling", this really stands out.
You have top level games, pros casting/explaining the games, not so much hyping it.
I'm not saying one is better than the other, but it's really enjoyable between all those "epic" tournaments like DH and MLG.
I picked diverse casting, if I could have picked 2, it would be the atmosphere in addition.

You almost forget there's money on the line and people are actually playing in a tournament.

This needs to happen more often.

all of them... poor choice of options imo.

picked production value because people don't rate it as much apparently. it is quite high and i love to see the cameras moving around

If I could pick two I'd also pick the atmosphere, it was really hard to pick just one ^_^
The diverse pro casting is really interesting and fun for sure though.

I hate that I had to pick between casual atmosphere/diverse casting. both of those things makes this tournament very unique and incredibly fun. the level of competition is world class and production value is very good too.
Everything is self-evident

The people casting i think is really making these games so fun, and i guess that goes with the casual atmosphere. The Jinro/Huk/Haypro casts were the best i have heard in a long time. Haypro kept making Zerg balance remarks, Huk was saying how much of a ZvT expert he was, and Jinro was just so funny. I love it.

I love all of the pros alternating coming on and casting games.

And with how chill the event is I think it's hard for players to take losses too hard or anything.

It's the best tournament by far imo. All the greatest players, very nice atmosphere and the best casting, it's nice to learn stuff instead of some guy with limited game knowledge just shouting out random stuff.

The Live fan experience is totally awesome! Being at the pub and drinking beer with the starcraft nerds, talking with the Pros outside and taking pictures with them.
This cup has so much to offer and the location is pretty nice.

P.S. The teamliquid guys are really amazing, especially HuK lol
Thank you so much TaKe for making this possible, I am definitely looking forward to the next big event in Krefeld!

its special in so many ways, tough to choose one. the biggest change from hsc2 to hsc3 is probably the public viewing (and partying with pros at the weekend?), because thats an awesome way to bring viewer and gamer closer

othe tournaments also have a lot of good players and a high production value... some may have a better live experience with huge crowds
BUT no other tourney has such great diverse casting and certainly no event shows the players practicing, talking, eating, playing poker or chilling and watching the games..
so its casual atmosphere for me

HSC is so incredibly awesome. It's so different... Completely impossible to compare it to DH or MLG. It just gives me this LAN-Feeling and makes me walk over and take part. It's incredibly good in every single aspect. Still I went for the atmosphere since that's the main difference that really sets it ahead of all the other events for me.
Diverse Casting is also insanely great. Having progamers cast the games in a relaxed fashion really adds to it (although I can understand that some doods feel the joking is a little too much.. I like it very much tho, it really spices things up.). It's just so much more awesome to hear the players laugh about another player messing up when he actually is messing up, while usual casters might be like 'oh, what's he planning to do with that 900 mins he saved up during the last fight ?!?!'

Aw man. Everything's just so amazing.

Very tough choice for me also. The diverse casting and casual atmosphere are both tied for me, but I chose the diverse casting. It is so amazing to see all of the players not only play and commentate with each other in epic games, but also interact and be so friendly with each other.

I appreciate Take and everything he is doing for the community! Amazing stuff from him and everyone involved. Rotterdam is awesome also! GJ all around to everyone.

Casual atmosphere for sure. I absolutely love it. Having random players cast, and doing random interviews, and seeing players in casual environments really helps the community learn a lot about the personalities behind the players.

For example, I feel like I knew a LOT about players like NightEnd and Stephano, in terms of their play, but now I actually feel like I know the players behind the play as well.

Plus, HayprO casting games was epic. =)

It's entertaining, but if it didn't have the level of players it did It wouldn't be nearly as good. I prefer the professional huge atmosphere that a GSL, or MLG brings.

Personally its been my favourite event, its nice to have to have the players come and cast some of the games and joke around with eaach other you get a feel of the players personalities, also you dont have these long intermission periods where theres nothing on screen but some graphic telling ypu when the next game starts, its awesome that they fill the time with joking around the poker table, stuffing their faces with crazy sandwiches and interviews not just of the players but some of the staff aswell. Best event of the year so far love it!

Diverse casting for sure. It makes me chuckle when I realised how much better the pro's game analysis is in comparison to 98% of non-pro-casters. Even Take and Rotterdam (and I REALLY like their casting!!!) seem like noobs when it comes to analysis compared to Idra, Socker & Co.

the casting session of haypro, huk and jinro yesterday was epic, haypro and jinro trying to cast the game at hand and huk derailing the cast by trolling when ever he saw fit, it was such a blast watching them!

the atmosphere at the homestorycup is really really special and the best thing about it is, its just halftime, we still have 2 full days to go!!!

that was actually one of the hardest polls to vote on. Overall i'd say that i love how they're having a lot of the players cast, so i said diverse casting... altho, i almost wish they would just give the floor to naniwa and tell the rest to screw off XD

but literally love this event for all the options aside from production value, which i think would maybe even be contradictory towards the environment, since it's not all lights and cameras so the players can chill

I think HSC was great in so many ways, but mostly because it pushed "offline" tournaments further, showing many things others thought was impossible. Just a great experience that i didn't really think could work, but has been awesome so far.

definitely all of those! in terms of entertainment this event is a class of its own. not even comparable to other formats.

atmosphere:
seeing those top-notch players just having a good time, trolling each other in a friendly way is so refreshing to watch. the relaxed feeling really transfers to the viever. even the overall mood in the live thread seems to be more laid-back then usually.

production value:
unreached imo. the mix of the different camera views (players area, chill area, casting couch, 'main stage'-table), the interviews and the random shots of everyone make it so fun to watch. the stream quality and consistency is been flawless so far.

players/games:
can u image something better than this player pool, besides maybe some more koreans? i cant. there are both, scbw and war3 legends who have such a long history in esports and still compete on such a high level. also you have recent tourney winners and upcoming youngsters who complete the mix. despite the chilled atmophere you can see that everyone really wants to win this and put up a good show.

casting:
if i had to make a choice it would probably be this. between the games i really cant tell if im more pumped for the upcoming match or the caster combination that will take place on the couch. hearing those pros analysing the game who are really into it just gives so much insight and makes it so much more interesting to watch especially cause they often play the players they commentate on. they dont fake tension when there is none and still manage to be entertaining. i think having 20+ potentiallly good casters and letting them rotate and pick the games they wish to cast is so unique. as much as i love day9, tastosis etc..when there is just one caster or casting duo for a whole event /long series of games, its just naturally that they will get exhausted and fall into always the same phrases and repeat the same hype terms over and over again. not so here: in almost every cast u can expect an extra point of view, some drama or special insight. all this beeing rounded off by a fluently jabbering rotti who is doing a great job.

overall: the is the best sc2 experience i have had so far.
i really hope everyone whos loves this game, esports and the comunity is buying the hd pass to support take, refund his investment(+ make him some additional money) and let him produce this awesome event again.

ty so much take and all the helpers involved!

Haha yeah for sure. I love it when progamers cast, as their knowledge is far superiour to most casters.
I'd love to see more casting from MC, as even though his English isn't the best, he's so awesome with his predictions.
I think he predicted the entire game when HuK played in DH and he was casting with TB, just by seeing when the first gas was taken or something like that.
"oh this is my build" ♥
Tyler, TLO and HuK are awesome casters as well.
LOVE IT!

was a hard choice between the atmosphere or casting but i chose casting because it's great to hear the players casting, talking about the game, trolling and just being chilled out. great tourney.

Everything at once. I'm so glad it can now finally be delivered to international audience, first homestory cups were great, too
But it's so much cooler now that really every pro is on LAN and that everyone can comment now :D

Atmosphere is great, and i think the casters are linked with that because even the casting is pretty casual too. I half expect someone's mum to walk in with a freshly baked tray of cookies or something.

The vibe from this tournament is just awesome. It kinda reminds me of some of the smaller MTG tournaments i used to attend sometimes (as opposed to qualifiers and prereleases).

Um... ALL? Homestory Cup is solid. Mostly I want to point out the camerawork and variety of shots being presented. We want to see the players playing, not just through the game, but the actual player playing the game.

^ This. It's so awesome as an aspiring player, to hear and gain so much knowledge from casters who really know what's going on as opposed to more charismatic less knowledgeable casters that are at most events.

I also wish there was an "All" button, it's just too awesome!

I like the casual atmosphere of the event. Seeing all of the pro's just chilling, eating food and talking among each other is pretty cool. I also like how the players literally sit right next to each other when they are playing...it adds a level of intensity, at least for me.

The amount of insight that you get from pros casting is completely insane. Even relatively good players like apollo don't come near to these guys. And most of them are pretty entertaining as well! Some mixes worked better than others of course, but on average the casting at HSC3 is probably the best of any sc2 tournament thus far.

I think its pretty amazing that they have had so few tech problems. I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the casual casting, but it certainly does make the event stand out

YEAH I love hearing the insight from the players casting!!! SO GOOD!

I'm only in Diamond, so my level of understanding is decent, but it's so cool that they know what a player is doing just from seeing something subtle, and they catch and comment on the tiny things that a player does extra well.

I love analyzationnes.

Definately the casting, although the player-pool, as well as the sheer atmosphere there are amazing.

But yeah, the casting has always been the best thing in a homestory cup.

The casting combined with the atmosphere, as one affects another. The diversity aspect is very important, because although some players seem to perform very well as casters, I'm more than sure the viewers would get sick of them very fast if they wouldn't change every game or so.

Do you mean the free stream? Hopefully. The quality of the hd-stream is quite good so far and i think to spend a few euros for it and the great event isn't too much.

Pick 1, easy

On topic: Awesome tournament vibe, I picked the live viewer experience because that's really what I'm getting the most out of from my own room, but it's the atmosphere at the tournament that makes it nice to watch. I found myself having stayed home to watch a ton of games while getting high, when actually I planned to go out... Time flies when you're having fun!

fuck man, Take even got the advertising down, this is the first event/tournament that actually got me interested in the sponsors' products actually considering buying when cash allows.

i mean, seeing this whole thing being played on those laptops kinda gets your attention, and the advertising/promotion being so crisp and unintrusive, showing off some sweet gamer features on the products, i dig that.

Had to go for the atmosphere. I do think there's a time and a place for hyped up contests in front of thousands of fans, but I really like just seeing all the progamers playing with essentially no drama and no fuss.

i think im the same as a few people i wish i could pick a few of the options in the poll but i definitely think the casual atmosphere is great, to see all the players walking around chillin out or just havin a chat in the background, i also think having the players casting the games is just awesome and the caliber of players in the cup has been top notch really enjoyed the tournament

best part was the last game in the grand finals when huk killed naniwa's last observer and all collosi dies:

One of the most unique and interesting tournaments out there. The casual atmostphere is what makes it exeptional, the variety in casteurs is amazing as well makes things really interesting to hear all these peoples thoughts, plus the players that were there made things interesting. Since i only watch games of players I REALLY like since i have to be efficient with my SC2 time.

If I could pick all of them I would have. This was a nearly perfect tournament. Only 2 things I can think of would have made it better. 1080p stream, and a rebroadcast for the US time zone.

Also, like... a match results sports ticker across the screen would be awesome! I have yet to see one of these, and I have no idea how hard they are to produce, but it would be sick.

Also, maybe an on screen "The next map streamed is X vs. X" like day9 had at dreamhack

I liked the event but the diverse casting did not really work for me... When i see games i kind of need a caster who can speak english fluently, or who atleast is fair to both players. Hearing the casters almost roast the person playing seems abit unprof to me.. Overall very nice tournament tho, looking forward to the next one!

I went there on Friday and the live fan experience was pretty solid!! Had a chat with Grubby and got several signatures.

Drinking a few beers, watch SCII and see random pro players in the pub.....what else could you want from a tournament (other than it being held in your own appartment/house).

Everything of courese, but the top two are the atmosphere and pros casting. Was an awesome experience for the viewer!

Edit: Clarity.

I went with "Production value" because HSC gave us one of the best examples of why SC2 esports is better on the internet than it will ever be on TV.

Nice job.

I just loved this tourney. It was really really good. Can't wait for the next one. Was so different and just a breath of fresh air. Casting was great too and everyone there was a really good player. Casual atmosphere really made it different. Keep it up and i want more!

Casual atmosphere closely followed by the diverse (and insightful/fun) casting!!! Seems like this would be the most popular option if it was on the poll, lol.

This cup is just awesome. The whole oldschool small cellar LAN spirit is so nice. All the Statements of the Players, all the coverage makes you really feel close to the players and the tournament.

Its something unique, you can't campre it with any other event

Having nightend cast was actually awesome, at first i was like ehhhhh; But by the end of the cup, man he's the best caster there, almost EVERYTHING he said about the games was accurate.

It was all awesome. I picked production value. The time felt so well spent. More entertainment in the breaks in the future though, like that awesome/awkward beatboxer.

You are entering the vicinity of an area adjacent to a location. The kind of place where there might be a monster, or some kind of weird mirror. These are just examples; it could also be something much better. Prepare to enter, The Scary Door.

I think the atmosphere is the most unique and interesting thing going for it, so I picked that. But the competition was great, as was all the casters. You never get casting like that, soooo much more enjoyable to watch. Some serious knowledge was dropped all weekend.

Yeah, I'd pick them all aswell.. But the level competition was the major thing. Idra was the primary reason I watched the whole cup.

Voted for Casual atmosphere, but it was a mixture of all those things. I'm just sad that i missed over half the games :-(. Gosh it was great seeing the players hang out, BBQing, playing poker, etc. A very nice LAN-event overall :-D

I feel like I missed out on one of the biggest SC2 events ever... did anyone happen to record the streams, or know how I can buy it after the fact? On the ESL website, all they have is 3 parts from day1 and it starts in the middle a ZvP with Haypro where it sounds like Idra is commentating?! I want the full package, including the behind the scenes webcam not of the matches, etc.

opened a ticked on the ESL site, about how to buy this... and from reading all the comments in this thread I can definitely say it sounds like I missed out on the best SC2 tournament of all time...

It's not like we went to Krefeld to enjoy the sights. Any city in which so many pros are playing incredible games and hanging out with the fans is the city I most want to be in.

Being in the pub when HuK's last stalker shot took out Naniwa's observer was an amazing experience. I'm sure the guys upstairs could hear the screaming - they could probably hear it on the other side of town.
