25k divided between 5 players on the winning team = 5k each. But yeah, an increase in prize pool would be nice. I'm fine with just having a high quality production, casters and games for now.
Columbus was miles better than Dallas, and I voted super awesome since there's still stuff to improve, but definately a very solid production this time around. Keep on improving, MLG!

I thought the games were great, but the event could definitely have been better run. They had maybe a tenth as many chairs as they needed, and the booths were overlapping the projector so that if you were watching from any angle they blocked part of the screen (if you were watching from the left you couldn't see the minimap). If you sat on the floor a big guy in a yellow jersey kept yelling at you to move because you were creating a fire hazard and telling you to sit in one of the "many available chairs." There weren't any empty chairs. Most of the floor staff were just real assholes (the guy at the gum booth). I think the casters should have been sitting where we could see them, instead of in back. Like how GSL has them in front of the projector (I think... never been to Korea). Also, SC should have been in the middle, inside of on the left side... it was much more crowded/popular than Halo, but had less seats and room to spectate. All-in-all it was great starcraft, but the way it was run just made it an unpleasant experience for a spectator (sitting on the floor for hours in a row is just awful!)
So hopefully these things are improved, because I plan on going to Providence :3.

It was somewhere between "not bad" and "super awesome" for me.
|
much better, LOVED the booths, two streams were awesome, good casters, and I like the ease that you can change the streams
commercials were a bit loud. still a bit of lag on the stream that would be nice if it cleared up. other than those two things, no big complaints here.
|
Ease of access for replays was good. Definitely considering buying in to Anaheim, even though I won't use HQ.
|
I had a little trouble debating if "Perfect event" or "Super awesome" was better... Picked the first anyways. Guess I was wrong?
|
Not that bad, but there was a lot of lag on the stream that needed to be fixed.
|
I enjoyed it, the games were great and everyone loved the MC / Idra drama. I don't like the extended series but that did make the MC Idra match all the more epic. My biggest criticism would be the horrible lag on the streams. We missed complete games at times and we had to keep reloading the stream every time it would skip back in time (that was a sign it was locking up). I really enjoyed the casters, I don't get a chance to hear "Tasteosis" much but they do a great job along with Day9 and DJ Wheat as always.

It could have been perfect if there weren't the lag issues, and yes I am aware that is not MLG's fault.
|
The only game I was able to watch during the whole event was game 1 of Slog vs Morrow, and even then it started to cut out when the banelings started to fly everywhere (Talk about anti-han timing amirite?). Then I was able to watch a small portion of game 2. Every other time I checked up on the stream it was either black w/ MLG logo or a part where the commentators are just talking (And then cuts out very quickly).
I wouldn't mind shit like that too much if MLG's VOD system was in any shape way or form competent but it's worse than Blip's new format, which is saying something.
I voted 'Dallas Repeat', even though I had less problems while watching that MLG.

I wouldn't say it was perfect but it was pretty close to being so. One thing is for sure, it was a massive improvement over the last MLG so mission accomplished.

It was incredibly awesome attending the event, but there was still definitely room for improvement. A few things that come to mind
1.) MORE CHAIRS. Hell, for the finals they played sc2 on the Halo and CoD stages (which had already finished) and even those chairs all filled up as well (and I believe there were still people that had to stand. I could be mistaken on that part though)
2.) Lag issues. While I understand MLG can only do so much since Blizzard is being stubborn about releasing LAN (Sundance should really start pressuring Blizzard about it). The amount of lag was definitely unacceptable. Overall, it didn't really harm the event too much though (but it definitely knocked it down a few notches from being "Perfect")
3.) Downtime. While I understand there's a lot going on behind the scenes, they should really work on making sure there's no more than 5-10 minutes of downtime between each series (Maybe one 30 minute long break to allow casters to grab food and relax)
4.) Commentating. The commentators need to be on the main stage. It was very disappointing that they had an "interviewing couch" on the main stage where they could have easily put the casters. It's much better for the crowd when they can see the casters in person. Conversely, casters feed off the energy of the crowd a lot more when they're right there in front of them.
As an aside, I think it would be really neat if they had a screen on the main stage for each player that showed the game from their first person point of view. While not really necessary, I think it would have been a really cool addition.
Either way, despite all these issues, MLG Columbus was by far the best MLG and being part of the crowd and the energy was amazing. Four years ago I would have never thought I would see July in person, let alone be around thousands of starcraft fans who were all erupting in cheers whenever there was action going on. MLG Columbus far exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be going again next year.

Anyone who voted for Perfect, I have a question for you:
How could this event have been perfect when Starcraft 2 wasn't on the main stage?!
|
absolutely epic to me, the drama and the games were amazing.
|
not perfect but the best MLG so far!
|
It's hard to vote when there's not a "Nearly Perfect" selection; however, it far surpassed Dallas. Good job listening to your viewers.
|
It was really good. Well done, I'm glad that MLG took this big step in investing more into SC2, as far from what I've read around it did pay off for them too, so it's good.
I hope they keep this bar rising for future MLGs and they will receive the support of the SC2 community for sure.

This was my first time going to any Starcraft lan event in person and I just have to say it honestly feels like your at a rock concert. Both pros and cons to that but the cons arent terrible. Like overcrowded main stage...i was literally standing behind the seated section on the main stage all 3 days, so that sucked. But with that said the crowd cheering when Idra holds off an attack and things like that really make an event like this extremely enjoyable. I believe MLG did an amazing job this time around, but I think the spectators and players are what made this event spectacular!

i like it and think it was also a HELP for the other player like MC, cause it was not able for idra to play his 2 best maps again
this longer series makes you play more maps and not this "i cant beat z on this map i have no chance to beat this guy" style anymore
i just LOVE extend series ^^ but the final should be bo5 xD

absolutely loved it. MMA is a BEAST
