Really, when the hell will the day come that we don't have to worry about the internet failing in order to have a good tourney (hmmmmm, Power Outage #1 Power Rank)

Outage was funny,
But Jinro is a hero.
Jinro gets my vote.

There were a lot of awesome things that happened. But the biggest story has to be internet fail. That sucked! :[

Jinrownage since Battle.net fail is not specific to this event.
Also, his amazing victory should not be outshined technical difficulties.

I'm a Painuser fan, No one in their right mind would have predicted him coming from, what 40th place? in the last MLG to stomping a bunch of TL and other sick players to finally take 3rd place. Ya, it wasn't a 1st place, but a meteoric rise none the less. Since I've known him Painuser has been a guy with a strong competitive sense and no nonsense attitude. I'd love to see him go far

Jinro riding in on his dark horse was epic.

Obviously a lot of people know of Jinro but I don't think I've seen him in any tournaments since a TL Invitational, and to come in unknown and win the whole damn thing is awesome.

Not only that but his play was amazing and made me want to try terran. Jinro vs Socke $$$

Nice poll. Kinda sad to see the Bnet fail come in as biggest but, I have to say, I voted for that one as well. It actually was the biggest story seen overall.

Painuser and TT1 should really get some more attention. They both played superb last weekend and knocked out a lot of hyped up players.

I'm thinking the internet failed because Boxers fans heard of some terran ripping nerds apart and thus assumed it was probably Boxer resulting in the internet failing. The internet came back on when enough of them realized it was Jinro.

True story.

I voted for Jinro.

Internet didn't go off. Battle.net went down for everyone at this exact moment I couldn't play a game w/o being disconnected. Still they should have lan mode and that couldnt have happened..

unfortunately for Jinro I feel like his win is overshadowed slightly by the epic fail by Blizzard to not add LAN to their game ... I wonder how long before there is enough pressure on Blizzard add LAN.
I voted internet fail ... although I feel bad because Jinro played amazing.

Overall the Bnet fail definatly, since I expected Jinro to perform well, hence is high quality training in Korea.

I think we were mere minutes away from KeSPA officials busting into MLG during the finals and declaring Jaedong the winner.

Painuser's performance was incredible though. What was the loss? I thought he was 4-0 vs TL, did I miss a game?

The answer depends on the meaning of "biggest" in the question. Jinro's great run was really cool, PainUser's result didn't surprise me because I knew he's a damn good player, but in my opinion, the "big" story--the one that sets a precedent--is the internet outage. We knew something like that would happen someday, but I didn't think it would happen so soon. From what I read here from MLG_Lee, it was a problem with a backbone. IOW, no matter how extremely reliable Bnet is, how awesome your internet provider is, when a backbone breaks everybody's screwed. We almost got robbed of the finals of a big tournament, and that's scary.

That's what I'll remember from this tournament. Jinro will give us many more great games, we'll have even bigger upsets than IdrA's (e.g. Tester didn't even qualify for GSL3) but I don't think (or rather, I hope) that anything will beat the finals-that-almost-never-were.

Haha, that internet failure was perfect. That was like the 3rd time they had to restart that game if I recall? Plus, it happens way too often. I don't play too much SC2, but I think it's failed on my 3 times? I really would enjoy a LAN play option.

This was actually kind of hard for me to choose X_X

Jinro winning was awesome for him.. The internet failing was a huge story.. PainUser doing SO well against Liquid and taking third place. Even TTOne getting second was a big story because I would've never put him up there with the top tier players playing in MLG, but he definitely proved me wrong.

Guess I'll have to go with the internet failing though

You honestly believe that the problem was on the end of the people who were still able to maintain their streaming footage without the slightest problem during the entire time the Bnet servers were deathing?

MLG has to get permission from Blizzard to organize tournaments featuring Starcraft 2 just like everyone else, so it's highly unlikely they'd blame Blizzard for anything that goes wrong even if it is their (Blizzard's) fault, for fear of not being able to do future events due to bad publicity.

Because it all being MLG's fault is so much better publicity than it all being Blizzard's fault, right?

The problem is with links in the chain that have nothing to do with either end. This is what MLG ended up saying, and I believe it because it is nothing new. The Internet has fucked up so often that I don't even pay attention any more, I just wait for things to get fixed.

They do need LAN, but lay off the tinfoil please. It's not becoming of you.

shoulda included the map dilema with the regame during tylers' match as an option. I believe ret/jinro played on LT as well when it was meant to be xel naga. These 2 instances could of changed the placings and matchups towards the end of the tourny considerably.
ZvT on LT coulda hurt rets chances vs jinro being the first game of a bo3 and Tyler lost the regame after being comfortably ahead in the LT match before the regame was called.

Hiccups are bound to happen so there's no point dwelling on them for too long. Jinro's meteoric rise to the top was the most memorable with him vs Socke on DO being my favourite match of the tournament. You rarely get to see epic Storm vs Bio play these days at pro level but they sure delivered. Go Jinro!

Although 4 TL members in top 8 is fantastic, I gotta go with the Internet fail. That shit was so ridiculous
I need this place like I need a shotgun blast to the face.

This was the most unexpected for me. Maybe I over value his skills but he is such a great player I was shocked at his early exit. more so to Select than to Nazgul though.

4 liquids in the top eight wasn't very surprising though the order was. The second biggest was Jinro's awesome win. Though the Internet failed it did deliver to us the best game of the tournament so I can;t complain.

the problem wasnt with bnet, it was an MLG problem with their own tech.

Ok,

except at that time there were like 10 threads on bnet forums about people getiing disced from their games.

don't claim something you don't know about

intopic: I'd say Jinro, totally unexpected for me.

Finals Internet Fail

This is one of the reasons the moneyhungry, greedy, and almost evil company Blizzard/Activision sucks

Why do they have to bee SO greedy? Avaricious Entertainment have gone too far.

I was trying to find out how HD Starcraft did but didn't know his gamer name. But then I found a nice post by Metronome that recapped the event.

Did you miss a lot of the MLG action in Dallas live or off of stream. Do you want to know wth happened? Heres a little bit of info for you!

The top 8 out of the 128 players who attended MLG Dallas get money:

1st = $6,250
2nd = $3,750
3rd = $2,500
4th = $1,750
5th = $1,250
6th = $875
7th = $625
8th = $500

Who got Top 8?

1st = LiquidJinro
2nd = TT1
3rd = Pain.User
4th = LiquidTyler (aka nony)
5th = LiquidTLO (aka TheLittleOne)
6th = EG.Machine
7th = LiquidRet
8th = ROOT.drewbie

Who were some tournament favorites?

IdrA, LiquidRet, KiwiKaki, LiquidTyler, LiquidHuk, qxc, Dignitas.Select.

Biggest Upsets?

- IdrA gets knocked out of the tournament SUPER early (well for IdrA). Especially since he WON MLG D.C.
- TorcHgaming gets knocked out of the tournament SUPER SUPER early.

Biggest Suprises?

- Two players that have been off the radar for a bit (LiquidJinro and TT1) are the players that make it to the Grand Finals!
- PainUser who I thought was just a good friend of HD's makes THIRD PLACE! (and hes tall)
- TeamLiquid sends seven players to MLG Dallas that have never attended an MLG event before, and one half of the top eight end up being from TeamLiquid.
- LiquidTLO is amazing at Zerg (which he btw has only for a very short time been permanently playing).

Saddest Things?

- HDGamer gets knocked out without winning a game.
- LiquidTLO didn't win the whole thing.
- IdrA didn't rage (even though I love him)
- The finals got delayed by like two hours because of "technical problems."

The most important question for half of you out there, What were the best TLO matches?

- They were all amazing. In pretty much all of them there was creative infestor play. Who knew that you could crush your opponent in just a couple of minutes when you opened three hatch before pool. Im being contained? OK I'll just get burrow and tunneling claws and suddenly pop up under my opponents mineral line.
- Some really good ones were LiquidTLO vs LiquidHuK and LiquidTLO vs jeremiahthebullfrog

- Also check out LiquidJinro vs Sockeh (my favorite match of the tournament)

- Other stuff can be found at mlgpro.com
Oh yea HD's name was "HDGamer" and apparently he didn't win a game but that was to be expected, he was playing pros.

4 TL in top 8 was the most impressive, but the (continued) failure of Battle.net is definitely the headlining news.

The last poll options should be labeled: final's Battle.net fail or final's Blizzard fail.

It wasn't Blizzards fault; there was a problem with the internet, not b.net.

i feel that everything here is so good the players because now we can do less guess work on how good jinro is etc. painuser, tt1, we now know that they can perform and ofcourse it's very sad idra got eliminated as i feel he was the best player there and sen performing poorly as well =( but ofcourse i voted for internet fail because i hope it really makes blizzard get their butt in gear and give us lan damn it asaply

Definitely either the issue at the finals or Jinro's domination. The first one especially because of Day9 vs. DJ Wheat showmatch, which almost had me in tears.

This just gives us another argument for available LAN play in SC2. Having a MAJOR tournament restart because of internet issues, something which could be avoided with LAN play

It's sad that the internet fail is what is being so focused on from the event. Don't get me wrong, they need LAN support, it's just makes me sigh that people seem to focus on the negatives and not all the good games and all the other stuff.
Isn't it ironic and selfish to say that God made man in his image, when God was made in man's image?

I'm pretty sure he 2-0'd someone in the loser's bracket.

edit: Actually he didn't win a game but he technically beat Sheth because he wasn't there.

I would have to say Grack getting blunk was the biggest news.

The Lan client, even for major tournaments, means that they would lose all leverage over their product if a partner decides to go rogue or expand beyond agreements (see BW scene), and they might even be forced to support unauthorized or license expired copies. They know the problem is there, it's just not a simple fix problem.

I voted Jinro Seeing a ton of Day[9] dailies with him and then seeing him come back fighting strong was awesome.
Too tired to come up with something witty.
