I played Protoss in bw, both because I liked the flavor of the race and it was much easier to get myself past D- with it when I was just starting out. With sc2 coming out, I planned on playing Terran. The units I had seen unveiled coupled with the easier mechanics of sc2 looked to make Terran very, very powerful. Turns out I was right... but I just didn't enjoy playing as Terran much. After seeing David Kim using mass banelings (and just how cool and fluid big zerg armies looked with the new pathing and physics) I was won over pretty fast. Protoss is fun to play and they still hold a place in my heart. :3 | ||

Zerg just has the awesomefactor (fangs, spines, tearing shit up) and I love watching a crawling mass of Zerg destroy something so I decided to make it my main race in SC2, even though I became way better/faster in the meantime. Also, I guess the removal of vultures alleviates some of the mechanics required to play Terran competitively but oh well I kinda like Zerg more. | ||

I really wanted to play p, but I found it too hard to adapt to the sc2 protoss. E.g. I always had nexus on 0-9-8.. :/ And the chrono boost was just too confusing to me. Also, I always wanted to be zerg. :D | ||

sometimes I feel like switching to Terran, I have even played as Terran in the second phase of beta, but in the end I can't leave zerg. Terran is hella fun, but it's not my game. As a Zerg I have map control, can overmacro enemies, do baller all-ins, have overlords watching every piece of the map, etc. and ZvZ is awesome, I love micro fights with banelings. | ||

and second reason for going random: I just LOVE creep so much and i can't possibly get away from it, it's jsut so insanely sick to use creep everywhere, I've come so far that I put and overlord on my opponents natural expo, put a queen there and spawned 4 tumors, and spread them out, I got one right in front of his wall and actually i got one in, he wasn't able to build a lot more buildings, and I creeped up every single mineral line on the map | ||

Some quick number crunching for anyone who's interested (numbers taken at 2:20 KST on August 13), ignoring 'other': 60% of BW Protoss players stuck with P in SC2 while 23.5% switched to T and 16.5% switched to Z. 58.4% of BW Zerg players stuck with Z in SC2 while 22.3% switched to T and 19.4% switched to P. 62.1% of BW Terran players stuck with T in SC2 while 19.1% switched to P and 18.8% switched to Z. That also means 63.7% of SC2 Protoss players play P in BW, while 20.1% switched from Z and 16.1% switched from T. 65.5% of SC2 Zerg players play Z in BW, while 17.4% switched from P and 17.1% switched from T. 52.1% of SC2 Terran players play T in BW, while 24.8% switched from P and 23% switched from Z. Of the people who switched races, 40.8% switched to T, 30.8% switched to P, and 28.4% switched to Z. In this poll, 36.1% of respondents play P in BW, 35.3% play Z, and 28.6% play T. In SC2 34% of respondents play P in BW, 31.4% play Z, and 34.1% play T. I almost made pie charts but I thought that might be going a bit overboard, plus the numbers here are mostly fairly even and wouldn't have looked very interesting on a pie chart. I play Zerg in BW but I don't like their aesthetic feel as much in SC2 (I know, shallow guy huh?). Right now I'm playing random in SC2 but I'm thinking I'll probably end up settling on Protoss, and likely spend more time on BW anyways. I didn't vote though since I haven't decided. TL;DR: Terran went from the least to most popular race (among respondents in this poll anyways) in SC2, with significantly more people switching to terran than to protoss or zerg. Zerg fared worst of the three races by a narrower margin. The specific numbers are liable to continue shifting as more and more people answer the poll, but the general trends probably won't | ||

Now in SC2 I play Random, originally it was to get used to all the races strengths/weaknesses - however it has now turned into just purely playing random. My Z is pretty bad still, but both my Terran/Protoss aren't too shabby. | ||

i had the same feeling discribed by idra / artosis. In bw terra was a lot different to play then in sc2 and since i was playing even in bw much zerg vs toss and i like zerg alot... ended up really good (always best plantin / diamon) in beta... didnt buy the game yet. zerg is awesome play in sc2, and the gameplay got really exciting for them. while i feel the terran did dropp a bit... you dont have such cool mech armys anymore sending first out the vultures to mine the shit out of the territory .. then sending scv/s for building houses and turrents in the way to defend vs ultras while sieging up in the back with tanks etc was so much fun to play. (felt like real war, not sending some strange firecars racing over the map with a shuttle and a giant piece of metal carrying...) | ||

bw zerg seemed more balanced than sc2 zerg. might be silly to say this, but the only balanced matchup for zerg is zvz in sc2 (lol). seriously... zvp is quite hard once collossus are out. it's totally beatable, but takes a lot of effort. zvt is more balanced, but without mutas being able to stack up, i feel like there is little to no way of harassing a walled-in terran in the early/mid-game. | ||

i loved zerg in BW but currently, zerg can get pushed around way 2 much. not cool for me. plus theyre not as fun 2 micro anymore as mutas r being a bitch and hydras r as weak as shit, currently. switched to toss. gotta love stalkers :D micro[wave]able woot woot! harassment is just way 2 fun with stalkers. toss is actually cool naow PLUS I LOVE BIG BALLS! | ||
