This was a triumph. I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction. Shinhan Winner's League We watch what we must because we can. For the good of all of us. Except the ones who are gone. But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of games. And the Starcraft gets done. And you make a neat run. For the people who are still alive. I'm not even angry. I'm being so sincere right now. Even though you broke my heart. And killed me. And tore me to pieces. And threw every piece into a fire. As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you! Now these points of data make a beautiful graph. And we're out of season. Playoffs coming on time. So I'm GLaD. I got burned. Think of all the things we learned for the people who are still alive. Go ahead and leave me. I think I prefer to watch, besides. Maybe you'll find something else to help you. Maybe game design? THAT WAS A JOKE. HAHA. FAT CHANCE. Anyway, Starcraft was great. It's so delicious and moist. Look at me still talking when there's Starcraft to watch. When I look out there, it makes me GLaD I'm not you. I've experiments to post. There is research to be done. On the people who are still alive. And believe me I am still alive. I'm watching Starcraft and I'm still alive. I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive. While you're dying I'll be still alive. And when you're dead I will be still alive. STILL ALIVE
This Week at a Glance
Stars sealed a playoff spot! Hah. I did -not- see that coming. Free has just been awesome. We all thought he was the worst of the six, but man oh man he's been destroying. He's helping Woongjin to the same rank as Jaedong and Flash. Pretty strong, I'd say. On the other foot is Samsung Khan. Queue January facepalm pic pls. Wow. JangBi tried, but there is just.. nothing to save them. One and Eight? Honestly? They're done. One interesting thing to note is the way the matchups shook out. None of the five teams fighting for that last playoff spot play each other which means they could all win their games. In which case STX takes it. They're up against Stars in the last game which is going to be just awesome suspense. I'm thinking STX or OGN take the spot with CJ finishing as the top seed since CJ play KTF in the last game and Lecaf can't make up the points difference.
Thank god. This week was pretty awesome. HiyA continues to shine. Since the beginning of Round 2 HiyA is 19-8 in PL/WL. That is really strong considering the level of competition right now. His TvP is abnormally good right now. Bisu lost again to by.hero which was pretty amusing. Jaehoon won twice with carriers and DT. Ugh. Free is holding his team alive as I said before. Next week is the telling week for five teams:
STX - Notice, Kal, Calm OGN - Yellow, go.go, Leta FOX - RorO, Mind, Keke, NaDa MBC - Light, Sea, Jaehoon KHAN - JangBi, Great, Stork
These guys have to perform next week for their teams to get into the playoffs. If you've got a favorite player in there maybe you should start praying now.
A bad week for the zergs. They tended to find themselves matched up in mirrors instead of against the protosses far too often. Free, Jaehoon, Kal, Bisu and others have won a few games this week. The overall statistics are looking much more balanced.
Terrans and Zergs have found themselves in quite a few mirrors, but the actual matchup statistics look really balanced considering how uneven we perceived the maps to be. Or maybe how unevenly I perceived them to be.
My picks: SK Telecom T1 vs WeMadeFOX Samsung Khan vs eSTRO Hwaseung OZ vs MBC Game HERO STX Soul vs Woongjin Stars OnGameNet Sparkyz vs Air Force Ace CJ Entus vs KTF MagicNs
Final standings (if this happens) CJ 8-3 OZ 8-3 SKT1 7-4 KTF 7-4 STARS 7-4 STX 6-5 OGN 5-6 eSTRO 4-7 FOX 4-7 KHAN 4-7 MBC 4-7 ACE 1-10
Check out Proleague Updates!! for more information about Winner's League. See you next week!
I think you mixed something up somewhere along the line - Woongjin hasn't wrapped up a playoff spot at all, and either has SKT, they're both competing for the 4th and last playoff spot.
Well I'm hoping for a miracle and the return of the Emperor still sometime during this league... (and also 2009 Savior!!!!) So yea... I'll believe in SKT-T1! If Canata pulled a miracle, why can't BoxeR or sAviOr??? (Ma Jae Yoon already proved enough miracles during this league but we need the former bonjwas back... all of them... even oov!)
Well, I looked around a little and I don't see any confirmation of the exact format except for p4NDemik saying in that WL thread there are 4 seeds. The last SPL thread has 6 seeds though, so /shrug. This post will get buried by Liquibition soon enough anyhow. Just trying to keep up with the pace of this league is interesting..
What is the format of the playoffs themselves? In old proleague, where the regular matches were bo5, the playoffs were bo7. In the winners league, does this mean that the playoffs are bo9? Are the playoffs also in the winner-stays format of winner's league?
i browsed other sources of information and stumbled upon sc2gg.com and read that the top four make the winners league (http://sc2gg.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6930).

Oh well, see you guys in the playoff season.
How about this?

The league is scheduled to start on the upcoming Saturday (17th), and features the winner-progresses format.
The regular season of the Shinhan Bank Winner's League 08-09 will span over 7 weeks, and progress seperately from the semi-playoffs, playoffs, and finals. Scores after the semi-playoffs will not be added to the regular scores. Changes to the Shinhan Bank Winner's League include:
Semi-Playoffs = #3 seed vs. #4 seed Playoffs = Winner vs. #2 seed Finals = Winner vs. #1 seed
At least that's how I interpreted this when the announcement was made.

Great review of WL! This seems a bit off though, if KTF wins wouldn't they be 8-3 since they are 7-3 now?
Yeah, unfortunately, Stars have not sealed a spot. If Stars lose and SKT wins, SKT will pass them on game differential (even though Stars won head-to-head...).
Love you guys, thanks for catching everything. It's hard writing to people who know everything about anything in the Starcraft world. I'm bound to make mistakes because frankly, I don't have time to proofread right now. I'm working 45-50 hours. XD
If its only 4 teams, then meh. Just imagine I made this post for four teams. ^^ Everything is a lie.
I wish we had all the info about this WL, i mean about the playoffs and how does it affect the other proleague rounds. For example its quite different in the case its only 4 teams in playoffs since the results force all the teams in top5 to win (except CJ). If there is a korean reader that could post about this im sure the info is in fomos.

Gonna be hard with their three best players battling off in the OSL Quarter Final, add to that two of them are playing each other, practice will be tense.
CJ might lose today's match. The coach knows they're assured of a playoff space and I think he will give the weaker players in the team a chance to play.
