Welcome to the World..... of Blizzcon. Greetings from Anaheim TL! Blizzcon is here once again and we've got quite a number of Staff/Users on the ground. For anyone turning up today, be on the lookout for the TL parade that will be bashing its way around the room, pushing its way between the WoW-nerds. We shouldn't be too hard to spot so please do make the effort . Yesterday the 2nd Annual community summit was held at the Anaheim Convention center and I was given a tour of Blizzard and had a chat to Dustin.
The Blizzard campus is quite surreal for a gaming company. There's three major buildings and it covers a lot of ground. They have their own Volleyball court, Basketball court and Valet Parking for employees. They've also got plans to install a huge bronze statue of an Orc on a Wolf (ie Thrall) in their courtyard; but that's still just a pit at the moment. The folks from Blizzard are really awesome guys, and really care about the community and their games passionately. Which is a really good sign obviously.
The building where SC2 and D3 are being developed Unfortunately, we were barred from entering any of the development areas so the closest we got to the actual development of SC2 was outside that building. Nevertheless things were rather cordial and the folks from SC-L and starcraft.org were really friendly and great guys. I also met up with the guys from ygosu and pgr21 who were also great guys. There were, however, some notable exceptions from the group that visited including gosugamers.net and sc2gg. That is, that these two sites did not attend (amongst others).
We got given a chance to talk to Dustin over lunch and well, the guy is simply legendary. I know every time we get the chance to talk about Dustin we say that he's such a good thing for Starcraft 2 and that the game is in very good hands. But it's just so true. Dustin cares about all the issues that have been raised in the SC2 forum both here and on other sites. He has listened to the community on a number of issues and is trying to find the balance. He's doing a great job for the game and won't be content in releasing a game he feels is not perfect.
Thus, even at this late stage in development the game is still undergoing some major changes as well as more minor balance changes. There is still the option for Blizz to scrap any idea before launch that they feel is not up to standard regardless about what the idea is. The willingness to do such things is simply reassuring and I have every confidence that SC2 will be the amazing game it has been hyped to be. I can't really say much more, just trust in Blizzard - they have your best interests at heart.
After the tour of Blizzard we headed over to the convention center just in time to see the masses pile in and try to get their tickets. It was an impressive view. We were barred from taking our cameras so unfortunately I don't have any pictures just yet- but rest assured plenty will be taken tomorrow. In the convention center the 2nd Annual Community summit was held where we discussed issues of the community and whatnot. Rather strangely, the views of TL coincided with some of it's less-than-amiable colleagues which I guess shows that no matter what website is involved, we all are trying to make the community as good as it can get.
Afterwards we got to play some SC2 for the first time, or watch the progamers play it! The pgr21 guys reported to me that Savior and the rest of the progamers were particularly worried about Moon destroying everyone once SC2 comes out. I'm sure most of you recall the Moon vs Savior vid, and it's those kind of games which make them believes that Moon is going to be the greatest SC2 player right off the bat. SC2 still feels very much like SC and is a really fun game to play. There will be lots more information at a later date when we've had a better go. But at least thus far I am undefeated in SC2!
Blizzcon is set to be huge once again, and here's hoping you guys come along as say hi. Rest assured TL has got all of you who can't make it covered, and hopefully we'll be able to have updates from the day as well a myriad of photos taken. For anyone with their Blizzcon pack, check out the information book (the square one) and read on the SC page. I'm sure you'll all be smiling to yourselves

for those of us who arent there, you could atleast tell us what there is to smile about. I assume it has something to do with TL.
edit: its a sc2 beta key. damn why couldnt i have gone.

Great to hear. I always feel good when I see an interview with Dustin Browder, so it is nice to hear that it is the same in person. Hopefully, Blizzard will just take their time with the game to really top SC.

Great writeup, thanks alot! I really want to try SC2, but it feels like they still have a long way to go before release.

Ehh . . . they are worried that SC2 will be so similar to War3 that war3 players will have the upperhand straight away?

No, you are not. I don't see why they are worried. Moon always was a outstanding player, with skills, like good mutli-tasking, that weren't really needed or possessed my other players for WC3.

Arghhh. This post is more like a teaser than a news report. Rather than answering questions, it just makes me want to ask more! More posts Plexa!

Uuh, the original guy just 'hates Moon'. He didn't even meant Moon being good and Moon being a WC3 progamer means SC2 is too similar to WC3.
Moon is good at SC2 because he played it a lot. Not because SC2 is too similar to WC3, which may be true or not, I don't know.

I think he said that the exception relates to "cordial, friendly and great guys", not that they werent invited.

You guys are off, Moon is probably one of the most talented individuals for playing RTS. It doesn't mean crap that he was dominating in exibition games in a *BETA*, and most wc3 players are not as gifted. Imo.
|
I'm honestly looking forward to Diablo 3 more at the moment. But that's not to say I'm going to shun SC2. Even if the multiplayer does not become as competetive as BW, the campaign should still be really fun to play. I'm positive Blizzard want's this game to be every but as great as BW is. Besides it's pretty much gauranteed SC2 is going to have to go threw some patches anyways. It won't be perfect when it first comes out.

Moon is an amazing player and I am sure he will be a competitive SC2 player at launch. I would agree that most top wc3 players will not make it in pro SC2 leagues against former top SC1 players, but Moon I think will be one of a few exceptions. It's a huge opportunity to bring the wc3 community and foreigners into the pro SC scene.
It's a really exciting time for fans of e-sports and you are a fool if you would not support the game because players outside of the current pro SC scene leagues would get competition from WC3 players.

Fuck I tried bidding on a beta key on ebay and the motherfucker admins removed the listing.
GRRRRR ME WANT SC2

Can anyone shed some more light on the sc2 beta key? I've been looking around but I can't find very much info about it.
More specifically, I haven't seen it listed in most news posts about the contents of the goodie bag, so I was wondering if it was in there. It's something I want to find out before I go ebay a bag.

Beta key? well too bad i'm not there. At least that means that sc2 is really close to release, and they're just worrying (as they will for just about forever) about balancing.

Arg! I should've gone! I'm only a 40 minute drive away from there! Me want beta key! ;_;

Well, I don't know alot about Moon -- beside the fact that he is one of the top War3 players -- but if he is every bit as talanted as people here say he is, then he could even be a threat in SC1 now, that is if he suddenly decided to quit war3 and start playing SC. (watching the clips of him playing SC2 on some event on youtube shows he is crazy fast)
It is doubtful that he has been playing SC2 "a lot", like Blackstar says he has. MOAR than others perhaps, but I do not think it will be that significant once SC2 starts becoming competitive (if that even happens)
However, the possibility remains that SC2 could end up being so similar to war3 that players from that game would become very good and dominant quickly.

Moon is like an adult still playing in the kiddie pool. He could probably swim alright with the big boys but he just chooses not to.
Blizzard obviously by now realizes TL is the epitome of great SC sites.

MOON DID NOT PLAY SAVIOR IN THAT GAME. They were in two separate games...

apparently you guys dont know that Moon is actually good at BW
According to testie, at IEST Moon played a better zerg than Blackman and @ Blizzcon 2007 testie went 2-1 vs him and was very impressed with his play.
Just cus he's amazing at WC3 means he's some kind of newb at a 'real' game?? The TL hate for all players and things WC3 really needs to stop. it's so naive, ignorant, and it just sickens me..

Pretty funny that he uses "Starcraft" T-shirt

Moon i believe was an amateur player(maybe even semipro) player for SC i believe. when WC3 came out people thought it'd overtake SC so he switched over. He has a greater level of skill than is truly needed for success in WC3. His multitasking ability is far above any other WC3 player and is probably just as good if not better than pro SC players. Little known fact is that many of the SC teams have actually tried to get Moon to convert back to SC but he denies them because he'd rather just school people at WC3 and make lots of money than have to compete with people his level and make the same money(maybe even less).

sry i dont hate warcraft 3 nor i believe any tl staff does...(And I believe sc2 is miles away from wc3) i just dont like MYM]Moon jang jae ho i know its completely biased and ignorant, creating such hate for someone i dont know... but i cant help sorry, maybe i cant accept another players but starcraft progamers to be pro at sc2 and read about starcraft pros getting worried about him in starcraft2 seems unreal, like if they could make nothing to stop that...
sry again =/

Seems unlikely. They have nothing to gain from it, and there would be no extra content other than different campaigns. Otherwise they'd have to release more content in each installment, which would hinder the game from being popular in e-sports, and thereby a failure as a competive game. It would be such a poor marketing move, that it just doesn't make any sense.

Not a big deal. It's going to be like HL2 with episodes of content being release. Maybe this will help make their Blizzard store service get bigger by allowing people to pay to download the new campaigns.

How is a progamer beating an amateur an upset? That's what we always see. Only this time the amateur was a retired Korean progamer and the progamer a foreigner.

I was referring to the single player parts of the game, obviously they wouldn't release it with only Terran playable in multiplayer at first...

It's like someone quoted on the last page though, multiplayer will work for all 3 the same??

I'm pretty sure Moon makes way more $ than any SC player, he gets to travel the world much more than SC pros, too. I don't see why he'd be stupid enough to switch to BW with all of that going for him.
That being said, I've always been a huge fan of his, since the early wc3 days. His games are usually exciting and his strategies innovative - lots of off-the-wall-shit.
If you're even remotely interested in SC2 you should be excited by bringing this amazing player into your life.
Don't get me wrong, I love SC, it's a far superior game - but I'll still watch Moon play wc3 when I won't watch many other players.
