Weekly Stats Report!
Welcome to the Weekly Stats Report! From this week on until the end of the Proleague, I'll help the TeamLiquid populace stay up to date with the most recent happenings in the Proleague. For those new to the Stat Reports, they generally consist of four sections: Team Standings, Map Statistics, Player Standings, and 2v2 Standings. More detailed statistics, as well as the older Weekly Stat Reports!, can be found in the featured column under the "Shinhan Proleague R2 - Results and Standings" section.

In the team standings this week, CJ recovered from their loss to KTF last week to give WeMade only their second whitewash this season, while Lecaf faced off against the two lowest ranked teams in the league: eSTRO and ACE. Lecaf beat ACE in the closer, with Anytime beating Boxer, and then repeated their 3-0 destruction of eSTRO from earlier in the season.

The batle for the last two playoff spots has intensified this week, with OGN and MBC both holding on to their positions with an 11-7 score, and Samsung being close on their heels, sporting a 10-7 score, a score that is especially impressive considering that they were 2-6 a few weeks ago. That said, all the teams up to KTF in ninth spot (tied with WeMade, Hanbit and STX on 9-9) still has a chance to qualify for the playoffs.

Zerg continues their bad season, with the winning percentage going down to 43%. The only map that retains a good Zerg win ratio is now Blue Storm, and even on Blue Storm the win ratio is only positive against one race.

Terran's recent success in the proleague can be seen in the top player stats. Last week we saw the first week with three Terran players in the top 10 and this week we find three Terran players in the top 10 again. This week though, the Terran players have taken positions 5-7, with only Luxury (who has clawed his way to fourth position by beating his fellow Zerg brothers), and the three Protoss fixtures still ahead of them.

GGPlay dropped down three spots after a surprise loss against Odin this week, while 815 is new on the rankings after beating Sea in the unexpected KTF victory over MBC.

Easiest Proleague
Last week I covered the players who has had the hardest proleague so far. This week I will check who has had the easiest proleague so far. The stat compares the average oppositional ELO of all players in the proleague who have played in more than five games this season.

5. sAviOr and maGma - These two players are tied fifth, with an average oppositional ELO of 1499. Both players also have a net score of -3 (2-5 for sAviOr, and 5-8 for maGma), so not only have both of them had one of the easiest proleagues, they've both had one of the worst.

4. Odin - Odin's opponents have had an average rating of 1496. Odin took good advantage of this by winning six games and losing only three.

3. Kal - Kal dominated the ranks early in the season with a net score of +7, and if we take into consideration that he's opponents have had an average rating of 1495, it's not hard to see how he's managed this.

2. Iris - Last season's OSL second place has been blessed with an easy Proleague this season, facing opponents with an average rating of 1479. Even though Iris has a score of 8-4 this season, many people were not impressed by his play, and perhaps the quality of his opponents has had to do with this.

1. Guemchi - With a 5-5 score, and an average oppositional rating of 1455, Guemchi has had the easiest introduction to progaming he could have asked for.

One of the most talked about topics at the moment is the occurence of mirror matches in the proleague. As the proleague progresses, the occurence of mirror matches increases, as does the complaints from teamliquid.

This week there were thirty 1v1 matches played, of which exactly 20 were mirror matches. This gives us an average of 66.6% of all 1v1 matches played being mirror matches, exactly twice as much as the expected 33.3%.

Over the last three weeks there has been eighty eight 1v1 matches played, of which 43 were mirror matches. This gives an average of 51.8% of matches played being mirror matches, a full 18.5% above the expected average of 33.3%. When this is compared to the first three weeks of the proleague which contained exaclty 90 games of which exactly 30 were mirror matches, we can see how the increased experience on maps leads to the increase in mirror matches.

In the 2v2 standings this week, the Flower/Justin team has lost their second game in two weeks, failing against the up and coming Cool/Sangho team. Flower and Justin are now on 13-3, while Cool and Sangho have taken a strong second place with 7-2. Jihyn and Cuteboy who were tied with Cool and Sangho at the start of the week lost to the famous Hanbit duo of Namoo/Max, who, after losing five out of their first six games, has recently come back to take wins over the well established Lake/Shudder combo, and now the Jihyun/Cuteboy team. Reach and Zergbong have also completely dropped off the list by losing their third consecutive game. The three strongest teams from last season (TT/Sigamari, Namoo/Max, and Reach/Zergbong) now all have negative win ratios.

A final noteworthy feature of this week was the unexpected line-ups played by various teams, and the unexpected success of those line-ups. Samsung decided to play Jangbi, who was on 0-4 at the time, and Odin, who hasn't played in the proleague for two weeks, and hasn't won a game in the proleague for over a month and a half. More than this, Samsung decided to play these players in a game which could decide whether they would make the playoffs or not, against a team that is notorious for creating upsets: Hanbit. Their decision payed off when Jangbi beat Guemchi, and Odin beat GGplay, finished off by consistent Stork taking a win over Free to give Samsung a 3-1 victory.

Similarly, KTF decided to play Violet on Baekmagoji, a map on which he was likely to face either Pusan or Sea. Violet ended up facing Pusan, and his victoy over Pusan was instrumental in KTF beating MBC. In line with this, STX not only played Sheis for the first time in over six weeks, but they played him twice. Sheis repayed STX by beating both Haran and Canata on Un'goro crater.
Hopefully these unexpected plays will continue as the proleague enters its last few weeks.

That's all for now; I hope you all enjoyed this week's Stats Report!

hrm the 3 sections with the top 4, middle 4 and bottom 4, is there any significant meaning behind that?

for ex: in Italy Seria A the top 3 (or 4) qualified for C1, bottom 3 (or 4) are domoted to Seria B etc well here other than the top 2 face off, the rest are just going to play next season yes?

Actually, in the Proleague the top 4 teams make the playoffs, so the green spots are the playoffs spots. The yellow spots simply indicate the teams that are in the middle of the field, and these teams usually still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs, while the bottom four spots are indicated with red, but like you say, there is no relegation from the proleague.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I'm really glad everyone is enjoying the column!

Great charts Diagomi, thanks. Could someone please tell me how many weeks are left in the proleague? Or maybe how many more matches each team will play?

Axel: Those maps definitely are uncomfortable in the matchups you mentioned, except maybe Katrina PvZ. The Katrina stats were 7-7 PvZ less than two weeks ago if I remember correctly, but since then there has been a large number of imbalanced players playing on the map. I think a strong Protoss player vs a strong Zerg player should have very similar results on Katrina.

Titus: Each team plays 22 matches before the playoffs (double round-robin). There are 10 matches played each week, with 24 matches still remaining. So the round robin stage should finish in about 3 weeks.

Mushu: The ELO ratings are calculated by Pachi and only take into account the Proleague. They are completely separate from the TLPD ELO ratings. If you want the specific numbers ask Pachi, or if you want to know what an ELO rating is, check Wiki.
