Something to think about for all game designers. What makes peole want to stay and play a game year after year. There isnt a better RTS out there then SC2 and Blizzard is in my opinion the best game creators over time; and still fail. Id say theres 3 big factors to consider here.
The competition from other games. Social network, the ability to make and keep friends easy. And that the game that starts out userfriendly convert to a more complex game. Sure most of the people playing SC2 dont have a clear picture of how exactly everything works but its not the point, you basicly do the same thing over and over again. At some point, im not sure if the players have to think at all they just have to see, act and learn. The thinking part is such a small part of this "strategy"-game.Its just my opinion dont get trolled by it, im sure everyone have their own.
With other words, they need to focus on how to create new personal bonds between players and to make people stay in the game longer and remove the anonymous crap that makes some consider every other unknown player an alien instead of a human. Im sure that alone would improve the atmosphere in. If you can upload a picture on yourself on Facebook why cant you in SC2?
About the see, act, learn + think part. If a player gets bored, its because his brain dossent get enough stimulus. Some players dont get to use their mental abilitys as much as they need. Just the fact that SC2 have static maps, no random generated maps (and that wouldnt work well) result in that Blizzard would have to focus even harder on the other parts to avoid the see/learn/act pattern and add "think" to that process. Its a strategy game after all, the thinking should be a main part of the game. Once the honeymoon is over and the "new" impressions became old, its how good the design of the game is that matters and decide if a player stay or leave.
Either way, Sea is the proof that Blizzard failed at some degree.

I can't say I'm surprised. I also can't say I'd be surprised to see him popping up on Afreeca soon

Sad day. I think Sea could have done extremely well in a future patch or hots. Would it have been different if he made Code A? Who knows :|
But hey - best of luck Prince of Proleague! It was still great to see you in a blue shirt

I never heard of him pre-SC2, and it makes me think he was a bit of a joke to have just up and left so quickly.
I think i should read up on his BW career before commenting, because right now all i can think is bad thoughts for him
Round of 16 finishes a few times and some teamleague "contributions" average showings otherwise (according to Liquipedia)
Yep, i was (in my mind) right to think badly of him.
Dont know why he bothered joining liquid if not to just embarrass them.

That was a short run for Sea, such an amazing player. Best of luck to him in the future!

Didn't see that coming Was hoping to see more of him playing in TL.
Gl with whatever you want to do Sea!
|
That's a bummer.
All the best to you in the future!

GL Sea. You will be missed.

If he isn't passionate about the game it's probably for the best anyway. I would have wished to see more of him though.

What?! So sad, wish him all the best in the future.

As someone who has watched sea from beginning to end... You can't retire yet sea. You still need to win an individual league!
|
But but but but but, he was becoming my favorite player so quickly!
|
As someone who was just introduced to Sea when he joined Liquid, it absolutely sucks to see him retire. The guy always had a smile on his face and it was fun to watch him stream. T.T Gl HF in your future Sea!

Dont know why he bothered joining liquid if not to just embarrass them. You clearly don't know how important proleague was in Brood War relative to what existed in SC2 before KESPA switched over. Sea was consistently the top (or second) Terran on his team, for periods of time would near singlehandedly carry his team to victory, and was otherwise a pillar of MBCGame Hero before the teams dissolution.
And really, talking shit about Ro16 finishes in the BW equivalent of GSL Code S?
