Incredible, and Miraculous
– Mvp defeats Squirtle 4 - 3 to win a record-breaking fourth GSL championship

The best things in life don't come easy.

After coming close to winning the second shut-out championship of his career, Mvp allowed Squirtle overcome his 0 – 3 deficit and force a final, seventh set. Squirtle had all the momentum in the world on his side going into game seven, coming off not just three ordinary wins, but victory in one of the greatest and most one-sided battles in GSL history during a pivotal game five. Mvp himself had never gone to a game seven in his four finals appearances, and the stage was set for a dramatic Squirtle comeback.

Yet, after showing amazing composure to come back from a three game disadvantage, Squirtle stumbled when it mattered the most. After fending Mvp's 11/11 proxy barracks all-in with admirable poise, Squirtle grew overconfident and overlooked the possibility of a second, follow-up all-in. Mvp reloaded, fired, and hit his mark.

In some ways, Squirtle's loss in an un-loseable game is utterly incomprehensible. But if you strip the story down to its very core, it makes a lot more sense: The first time finalist choked, and the three time champion remained ice-cold.

Mvp didn't seem to care so much about the fact that it was his record setting fourth GSL championship, further solidifying his position as the best Starcraft II player in the game's short history. He was happier to overcome his 2012 slump and return to championship-winning form, which also makes a lot of sense: To worry about ones legacy, one would first have to believe one's prime has passed.

Match Recaps
*Thanks to aTn.Cloud for his input

Game One – Daybreak

+ Show Spoiler +
Mvp @ Top right, Squirtle @ Bottom left. Mvp took the fight to Squirtle in the first game, opening with a one-base hellion/marine/medivac rush against Squirtle's fast expansion. With good scouting denial, Mvp was able to hide his plan for a very long time, and Squirtle contented himself with a blind 4-gate follow-up.

This scouting denial proved to be absolutely crucial, as Squirtle was still in the dark once his warpgate upgrade completed. Squirtle choose to warp in a round of four stalkers at his forward pylon – a good move if Mvp had gone for a greedy build – but fatal against the two prong harass hellion + marine drop coming his way. Squirtle tried to do the best he could with his four offensive stalkers while also somehow defending his main, but it was a forgone conclusion. Marines and hellions killed off everything in Squirtle's naked main, while a wall-in and 30 SCVs were all Mvp needed to hold off Squirtle's attack.

Score: Mvp 1 – 0 Squirtle

Game Two – Entombed Valley

+ Show Spoiler +
Mvp @ Bottom right, Squirtle @ Top left. Calm and collected for nearly fifty games at IPL4 and throughout his fifteen game GSL run, Squirtle showed that even he could be shaken by the pressure of the GSL finals. After opening up with a standard FE into robo build, he managed to lose his important first immortal due to a bad rally.

Otherwise, the game went on in fairly standard fashion, with Mvp doing a standard FE into three-rax medivac pressure, while Squirtle turtled up on his two bases while waiting to get tech units. Besides a failed MMM elevator from Mvp, the macro build-up continued mostly uninterrupted, and the game saw both players go up to four bases with increasingly deadly armies.

Instead templars and storm, Squirtle assemble a large, near-max army centered around four colossi supported by a large amount of blink stalkers. On the other side of the map, Mvp was building up a primarily infantry based army, with his lack of vikings suggesting that he had blindly assumed templar tech from Squirtle.

With a favorable army composition, Squirtle was able to emerge victorious in the first major battle of the game – but not by as large a margin as he would have wanted. Fighting in the wide open center of Entombed Valley negated the strength of colossi greatly, and good EMP's from Mvp prevented Squirtle from using force-fields to alter the battlefield.

All of the colossi were dead by the time the battle was over, and Squirtle warped in another round of blink-stalkers to see if their numbers were enough to snowball over the remaining Terran infantry before they could reach critical mass again. Unfortunately for Squirtle, he was just a a handful of gateway units short of achieving his goal, and Mvp's SCV militia and high medivac count allowed him to defend until he had rebuilt a sufficiently large core of marines and marauders.

This left Squirtle in a very bad position, as he had had no breathing space to transition into a different composition after investing so heavily into stalkers and colossi. He was left having fighting off large numbers of marauders and medivacs with blink stalkers and a couple of colossi, the result of which should be fairly obvious.

Score: Mvp 2 – 0 Squirtle

Game Three – Antiga Shipyard

+ Show Spoiler +
Mvp @ Top right, Squirtle @ Bottom left. Having shown standard play in the previous game and 2 – 0 up in the series, Antiga Shipyard presented a perfect opportunity for Mvp to throw a curveball. After opening up with a regular FE, Mvp went for late gas and went for mass barracks and marines for early pressure. As for Squirtle, he continued to play fairly standard for the third straight game in a row, taking a fast Nexus and transitioning into some light gateway pressure.

Squirtle's could have used his good micro to tear apart Mvp's only-marine army apart if he had encountered it in the field, but Mvp wasn't interested in playing to his opponent's strengths. Expecting his opponent to move out with gateway units at some point, Mvp sent off a small group of marines outside the vision range of the central watchtower for the purpose of a backdoor attack.

When Squirtle charged into Mvp's natural, Mvp only needed lift his CC and retreat it to his main while defending with bunkers on his ramp, whereas Squirtle was forced to scramble and try to minimize the damage to his naked main and natural. It ended up being a largely advantageous trade for Mvp, who killed off a large number of Squirtle's probes at the cost of few SCVs and some mining time.

Mvp followed this up by greedily making a third orbital command center, a move Squirtle was powerless to stop as he was busy chronoing both of his nexii to try and rebuild his economy. The end result was by the time the two players were ready to fight again, Mvp had pulled massively ahead in economy, and thus had a far more powerful army as well. Mvp had no trouble picking apart Squirtle with drops while the rag-tag Protoss army ambled about indecisively on the map. The accumulated damage eventually became too much to take, and Squirtle GG'd out.

Score: Mvp 3 – 0 Squirtle

Game Four – Cloud Kingdom

+ Show Spoiler +
Mvp @ Top right, Squirtle @ Bottom left. It would have been easy for Squirtle to crack under the pressure of being down 0 – 3, but he ended up looking more like DongRaeGu than TOP or Losira. While Mvp went for his fourth different build of the night in triple orbitals defended by siege tanks, Squirtle played standard yet again with an FE into robo.

As in game two, there were few complications as the two players built up their economies and armies, but this time Squirtle transitioned into templars, archons and chargelots instead of sticking with colossi. With his upgrades delayed by going for a handful of tanks early, Mvp ended up paying the price by having late upgrades. Squirtle was put into an almost perfect late-game Protoss situation, with every form of splash damage in his army while his zealots were two levels of upgrades ahead against the Terran infantry. Not surprisingly, Squirtle streamrolled through Mvp's army, and collected the GG to stay in the series.

Score: Squirtle 1 – 3 Mvp

Game Five – Metropolis

+ Show Spoiler +
Mvp @ Bottom, Squirtle @ Top. It didn't take long for it become obvious that Mvp wanted the sixth game to go super-late. Mvp took a quick third after some non-committal MMM pressure, and after he saw Squirtle take his third as well, Mvp continued on to take his fourth.

Squirtle's plan resembled the one he used in game two, going for mass blink stalkers and colossi off three bases. However, with Mvp playing very defensive, Squirtle withdrew and belated followed Mvp into preparing for the long haul.

The game turned into a rough half map split, with Mvp taking the five bases on his half of the map, and one of the islands as well. Squirtle took his half of the map and the two neutral ground expansions, while the remaining island was left untouched.

As tends to be the case in such tight situations, neither player was willing to attack for a very long time. Mvp built mass orbitals and sacrificed his SCVs for more units, and then began to sacrifice his units for OTHER units. It was pretty much the same story for Squirtle, whodiscarded his cheaper units for ones of higher value.

The end game composition of choice for Mvp turned out to be mass battlecruisers supported by ghosts. For Squirtle, it was stalkers, templars, archons, and a lone mothership. But even with their final compositions put together, neither player was willing to try and end the game. Even when Squirtle stranded a large number of his units at Mvp's island expansion with a suicide mass-recall, Mvp was too tentative to commit to a real counter-attack. After a long standoff (during which Squirtle was able to ferry back everything from the island with a warp prism), for no real reason than the fact that Mvp finally felt ready, the fireworks commenced. Mvp moved out into the middle of the map with twenty odd battle-cruisers and a squad of ghosts, ready to take the Protoss army head on.

The resulting clash was epic. Though there were many theoretical problems with Mvp's composition and execution, it didn't prevent the total destruction of twenty battlecruisers from being one of the most exhilarating moment in GSL history. Half of the BC's were vortexed into oblivion, while the rest ate a deadly combo of storms and feedbacks. With a group void rays also on hand, Squirtle was able to completely overkill Mvp's army.

Cleaning up was easy for Squirtle, as he instantly warped in a massive ground army to replace whatever he had lost and swept through Mvp's bases.

Score: Squirtle 2 – 3 Mvp

Game Six – Dual Sight

+ Show Spoiler +
Mvp @ Right, Squirtle @ Left. Having played an extremely safe series thus far, Squirtle took his biggest 'risk' of the series by skipping a robotics facility after taking his fast expansion. Mvp went for another FE build including a handful of tanks, having the option to pressure his opponent but wisely chose not to after sensing his opponent had gone for quick chargelots.

Instead, Mvp went for a later timing once he had stim and medivacs, setting up in an advance position outside of Squirtle's third base. Squirtle could have played the situation slowly, but perhaps feeling too confident in his chargelot + templar army, he decided to run straight into the fray. It ended up being a disastrous attack, where he ran single file into a well set Terran line, losing much of his army advantage. Squirtle tried to attack again after he had reinforced with another round of warp-ins, but it turned out to be another unwise over-extension against a superior Terran army. Mvp was able to counter-attack and raze Squirtle's third, and then set-up a siege line a stone's throw away from the Protoss natural.

At that very moment, Squirtle was in a very tough spot, but he was able to patiently work his way back into the game. Mvp was entrenched right outside Squirtle's natural, but as he was not within striking distance of the Nexus, Squirtle didn't have to react right away. Instead, he used his forward pylons to warp-in zealots to kill several SCVs at Mvp's bases, while also taking a new third base in another location. Though Mvp had a good position outside of Squirtle's natural, he wasn't able to deal with anything Squirtle was doing elsewhere at the map which caused him to slowly but surely lose his lead.

With this third base up and the mining at Mvp's bases seriously disrupted, Squirtle eventually turned the tables on Mvp. After a few rounds of backdoor attacks, Mvp suddenly realized that he was actually in a fairly big hole, and that Squirtle would probably win the game if he waited any longer. He took the troops at his semi-containment position and moved them into Squirtle's natural, only to be met by a barrage of electricity and lasers. It was already too late – Squirtle had put together an army too powerful for Mvp to handle. Squirtle busted out and crushed Mvp's army, and moved onto his base to collect the GG.

Score: Squirtle 3 – 3 Mvp

Game Seven – Atlantis Spaceship

+ Show Spoiler +
Mvp @ Top right, Squirtle @ Bottom left. We'll never know what Squirtle had planned with the series on the line, as he spent the entire game reacting to Mvp's moves. Mvp had no qualms going for a high-risk, high reward strategy, sending out SCVs for a proxy 11/11 barracks rush. Once a handful of marines were complete, Mvp sent out SCVs from his main for a deadly all-in attack. Fortunately for Squirtle, he sent his scouting probe out early enough to catch the SCVs leaving Mvp's main, making it obvious what his opponent's strategy was.

Delaying for as long as possible with his first zealot and a handful of probes, Squirtle did the best he could to minimize his damage until he had two stalkers out. With a bunker going up by his gateway, Squirtle managed to just barely avert disaster by killing off every single SCV as the bunker reached 90% completion. That left Squirtle with the marines to take care of, but with his second stalker popping out in timely fashion, he was able to repel the attack with stalkers and probes. Mvp looked extremely dead as he was down to just five SCVs with absolutely no tech to speak of, but he decided to stay in the game on off-chance that there would be an incredible miracle.

The Starcraft gods smiled upon Mvp, and his prayers were answered. Squirtle became overconfident and completely misjudged his lead, forgetting that a mule and handful of SCVs was still enough to make continuous marines out of two barracks. Squirtle sent a zealot and two stalkers to attack the proxy barracks, only to lose a zealot and a stalker (half of his army) to a flank attack from Mvp's surprisingly numerous marines. The marines were quickly joined by all of Mvp's remaining SCVs for one truly last-ditch attack supported by a single mule at home.

It was just enough. A zealot and a stalker were far more than Squirtle could afford to lose at that point in the game, and he was powerless to stop Mvp from destroying his pylons and depowering his gates. Squirtle could only watch dejectedly as a bunker went up next to his Nexus, not even having the will to muster his remaining troops for a futile last stand. When his Nexus went down, Squirtle GG'd out for good.

Final Score: Mvp 4 – 3 Squirtle

Game 5 is the best Starcraft II game I've seen.

The 'Learn Korean Guy' knows it all,
I'm a fool, I'll never trust battlecruiser.

IMMvp's balls in game 7 are bigger than his Yamato cannonball in game 5.

What an amazing finals. Is Squirtle going to be the new Kong? The player who makes the sick comebacks but falls short of the title? The similarities between Code S and IPL 4 are striking, as both tournaments Squirtle had a great run and fell into a hole against a Terran opponent in the finals, only to come back and equalize, but nevertheless fall short.

That last game... reminds me of GSL open 2, MKP throwing a 2 rax at Nestea at 3-3. From that battle report: "Final game 7. No risk no reward." I think MVP was thinking something like that, deciding to 11/11...worked out a lot better this time though

Insane series. MVP really is the strongest player in the world. Results speak for themselfs.

Also im quite sure when Squirtle crushed MVPs "deathball" in game 5 he still had quite afew units over at the island, I remember the observer pointing it out right after the fight.

hehehe MVP!
My heart was beating like crazy in game 7. I was so nervous that MVP had lost it after the first failed all in. So happy that he beat squirtle and kept MC as the only toss champion.

Heres hoping for MC to win the next GSL!

Kinda sad that MVP had to resort to a crappy cheese at a game 7 of possibly the 2nd or 3rd best GSL Final to win. Kinda screwed the whole experience/buildup for me. Squirtle could've had that last game... Oh well, grats to MVP on his cheese win.

Flashbacks from Naniwa - Thorzain 3-1 when Thorzain holded the attack, just like Squirtle destroyed MVP's army at 3-1

Yeah, I just rewatched game 5. After the final battle was over Legend highlighted that squirtle still had 7 HTs, one Stalker and one Archon lest on the island. That is 20 supply if I am not misstaken. And he still shat pretty hard on MVPs "Ultimate" comp.

Shame Squirtle botched game7 by being worried about the rax. :| Poor guy.

What an amazing series. Great stories behind the players, a variety of play in the matches, and the most epic finish. I do think this was the best finals due to the story and tension, but I would still say that Jjakji vs Leenock showed the highest level, most consistent play without large mistakes from the players and produced games that were better by themselves.

I think it's just implying that Squirtle was trying to evolve into Wartortle, aka win the GSL finals, while he was going up against the "king" of Terran, Mvp, hence the Nidoking. That's my opinion of its meaning anyway.

If by "cheese win" you mean only the final game, then what you said is acceptable. If you mean the series overall, then what are you even saying. and still, how can you negate 6 great games because you didnt like the 7th? jeeeez enjoy what matters
Yeah, lol.

And besides, i think the 7th game was epic. The intensity was close to a zvz and the micro like a pvp, which is imo fitting for the final map of a final.

This was an amazing finals... If he had beaten MVP i was gonna call him Blastoise.... that didn't happen, but he definetely evolved into Wartortle

Set my alarm for 6:00 am (I live in Nova Scotia, Canada) and ended up sleeping through it until 7:30. I woke up and immediately ran upstairs. Game 6 had just finished and game 7 was about to begin. I couldn't believe MVP had to cheese T_T , but I understand he had wrist injuries...

Although I've been kicking myself all day for missing the first 6 games, at least I got to see the end. Kinda sad Squirtle couldn't win though.

My heart was beating like crazy in game 7. I was so nervous that MVP had lost it after the first failed all in. So happy that he beat squirtle and kept MC as the only toss champion.

Heres hoping for MC to win the next GSL!

LOL yep that's the power of the 11/11 for you. First all-in failed? Guess what, it wasn't an all-in due to MULES!
Lose all SCVs on second push? Doesn't matter because of more MULES!

I have been seeing the 11/11 against Protoss more and more often in the GSL, sometimes it wins even when it's scouted. IMO, not quite enough risk to balance the award of the 11/11, but oh well.

Unreal Finals, I came SO CLOSE to going to bed so many times, but in the end I'm glad I stayed up for it! Although I wish game seven ended in a different fashion (no, I'm not complaining about MVP winning, just wished the cheese was in a game other than the last), the finals were so good. I said it before, but that was a finals I will be telling friends "Yea, I stayed up all night and got to see it all live".

I would highly recommend you stop watching Koreans, and top level players in general, play Starcraft. They tend to "cheese" at least once in a bo7, sometimes even twice. I can recall quite a few finals that have been decided by cheese and all-ins on the last game. Cheese is a perfectly valid strategy, and if you weren't excited in game 7 I don't honestly know what is wrong with you, because that was an immensely exciting game. Seriously, get it of your head that cheese is wrong, it will make this game far more enjoyable for your viewing pleasure.

On topic, MVP showed why he is the best SC2 player thus far. 4 GSL titles and player with most amount of money won. Really hope he continues to defy his wrists and keep winning. When you watch him play it is really some of the most consistently best decision making you can have, and it is always fun to watch. Especially now that Terrans aren't 80% of the GSL!

Such a roller coaster of a series.
Even though we we're due up for a protoss champion, in my heart I always wanted MVP

I predicted 4-3, but i had no idea it would happen the way it did !

hopefully the terrans can stfu about protoss being op

if mvp had just attacked with all those cattlebruisers earlier before squirtle had mothership he could've won. all squirtle had were archons.

protoss has no good anti air. stalkers? suck. voidrays? die to vikings. archons? lol yamatowned. mothership? emp. carriers? rofl.

I really don't understand how anyone could be disapointed by the final game. It was so intense. The length of the game you could just feel both players giving it there all with the intense micro. MVP had to resort to what? Something his opponent couldn't overcome? Yes that's because there was thousands of dollars and a legacy on the line? You're saying it would be more exciting to see a 4th macro game? I beg to differ!

Nice write-up although you got the positions wrong in game 7, Squirtle was at top right, Mvp was at bottom left

God, I would give my left hand to see a Protoss win something. T_T

At least the series was good, if it was another terribad GSL finals, I'd probably just stare into my ceiling angrily for a night, but I guess I can accept another Terran GSL win as long as the series was good. <3

Maybe next time, Squirtle.

Agreed, you could almost feel the players' hearts beating when they were micro-ing, it was just so intense. And so dramatic also, on one hand you feel glad for MVP for winning his 4th championship but on the other one it was heartbreaking to see Squirtle lose on a tiny mistake after coming back from a 3 game deficit and repelling the first all-in only to lose like that, poor guy.

Great finals all in all.

In game 5 MvP took both islands... anyways... It is hilarious that all the squirtle toss fanboys are crying about a terran early game win in game 7..... they sure seem to think it was cool to jump on the bandwagon of telling terrans to win in the early game when blizzard officially said they dont think it is wrong for lategame toss to be considerably stronger than terrans. I guess crying fanboys will always try to find some way to delegitimize the opponents win... ala gstl finals... only this case obviously has no grounds whats so ever. Killer win MvP... on the worst map that a terran could ever draw in a modern pro competition you found a way to make it happen with pure will of spirit. Championship very well deserved.

I think how clever MVPs decision was in taking the base south of his main while building the third command centre to put at his natural on map 3 (antiga shipyard) is missed here - leading squirtle to not even think that a hidden third could have been taken. That is what really won the third map so easily for MVP.

Also game 7 was incredible!!!

Game 5 is awesome not because of what crazy strat they pull, but because of the unbelievable comeback at the moment of the series. And game 6 gave hope to most of us that was cheering for underdog. I bet people rooting for MVP were happy too. Then game 7... Game 7 was suppose to be the most heart pumping game. But it wasn't. I don't even understand how some people on this forum can possible think that was epic or enjoyable.

I dont see MVP as the champion, just a coinflipper.

If squirtle warps in at home in game 1 he wins, in game 3 he was lucky enough to go past squitles army in the middle of the map. I can still see Squirtle shaking his head in the booth when this happened.

MVP relies on that kind of luck, he hasnt won all 2012 because honestly, he hasnt deserved it.

He lacks true still but his biggest strength is knowing how to win a game with a flip of the coin.

Winning a championship doesnt meant I have to respect the way he plays or the way he wins.

People wonder why Champions frequently go out in the round of 32 in back to back GSL's.

It's because they didnt deserve to win.

MVP is dead to me.

Rofl , someone is bronze and is really mad.
Winning like 14 games in GSL Code S all based on luck? Dear Sir, are you RETARDED?
Game 3 it was just strategy , game 1 , it was planned too...

Cheese is a part of this game and it keeps the game fresh and honest. If we had long build up games every single time, then starcraft would not be as great as it is.

You're nuts... cheese throws the game into mass intensity way early on and it brings such immense pressure to the players who have prepared builds for days. Imagine practicing a map for an entire day vs one race... setting up your build, everything.

Then suddenly unexpected cheese happens. How stressed out do you think one can be?

Boxer was insanely entertaining to watch, yet he and many others cheesed like crazy.

It's because they didnt deserve to win.

mate your retarded if u think Mvp relies on luck, i hope you really are a bronze leaguer who doesnt know about the game otherwise your truly retarded. also both squirtle and mvp made lots of mistakes in the series for example game 5. but who doesnt make mistakes under so much pressure? mvp won because he planned his build very carefully in each map with both extreme macro AND cheese, now this is a good players. a player could only macro is same as a player could only cheese to me.

i must say! The final game really sums up the game well man! Mvp looks to be winning -> Squirtle looks to be winning -> all-in last ditch effort to a Mvp win! OMG! totally sums up the whole 7 set series!

sc2 always go one sided because terran stronger than protoss in early game while protoss stronger than terran after 15mins.

Awesome series, especially the metropolis game was amazing. I feel a bit bad about the last match, i think squirtle should won if he stayed in his base. To push out and loosing the one stalker and i think a zealot too lost him the game. His eco was much better, so he should be fine if he just played defensive and chrono out more stalkers.

amazing series! Game 5 must be the best sc2 match ever played. But.... what is up with these butthurt ppl complaining about mvp cheesing in game 7. The map is toss favored, there where 6 great games before the last and you're whining about ONE cheese? My advice to you: Don't forget to take your medication.

Shame Squirtle botched game7 by being worried about the rax. :| Poor guy.

when was mass battle cruisers ever an ultimate comp vs protoss?

if you watch how that game played out, MVP lost that game due to miscontrol, not unit composition. ghost/BC is pretty strong int he late game against protoss.

stalkers aren't effective against BCs at all when you have massive numbers of them. the terran army in the super late game should be a lot larger since you dont need any scvs to mine (except the few for gas). not only that but if you watched that map, it is almost impossible for protoss to attack into the island expos since a PF + small missile turret ring will deny all entry onto it.

do you really think someone would play into the super late game if they knew for sure it was going to be a loss?

I don't even understand how some people on this forum can possible think that was epic or enjoyable.

MVP completely tricked squirtle in the last game...

after the inital scv pull 2 rax was held off by squirtle, MVP started rallying more marines to a different location to setup a flank, which made a losing position (failed 2 rax all in) into a winning one by the hair of mule economy, it was an extremely smartly executed cheese.

Just gonna repost what I posted in the LR here in light of some MVP hate being shown...

The best thing about all of this is that it continues to solidify (in my view) the claim that SC2 is a game of skill. Sure maybe you can't scout something and you lose to an all in. Sure maybe some newly devised strategy seems unfair and "impossible" to beat. Maybe people will call you someone that cheeses or has no skill and wins with luck, easy opponents, etc.

But the best is above that and wins despite what non-believers call flaws in the game/tournament setup. They just keep winning. And it gets harder and harder for people to call good players bad on what they clearly don't understand.

Congrats MVP, and good job.
If we fear what we do not understand, then why is ignorance bliss?

After FINALLY watching these games, I think squirtle could've stayed in it a little longer if he'd had some good micro. And remind yourself, Squirtle's probe had killed off all of MVP's SCVs, and the lone mule on the field. If he had gone for a base trade that involved building a pylon in MVP's base, I think it would've been possible.

EDIT: Plus MVP had 3 weeks of TvP Practice. The fact that squirtle managed to hold on for so long is just a testament to his skills.

What a future this sport has.

Oh, and MvP is far from lucky, you don't "luck" into 4 GSL championships.

I dont think squirtles probe killed off anything in the main except that one mule, I am pretty sure that Mvp just pulled every last scv in his final effort and if not then maybe he left one scv to mine that the probe did get, but im fairly sure that it just started attackin the mule and tastosis made a big deal about it because there were no scvs there and so much was happening at once it was hard to keep track. The fact is i doubt Mvp would let a single probe kill off several scvs in a game where he only has like 12 units to keep track of. Ill have to review it again but i believe he pulled all his scvs the second time knowing that one mule can apparently power 2 barracks ><
Edit; so what actually happened was mvp pulled every scv with the last push he then built 2 more and from what i could see on the minimap he sent those 2 out as well most likely right around the time the probe arrived, you can see in the vod that one scv joins up with the attack and the other is sent back home probobly to protect the mules from that probe.

MVP's ability to plan out a series is seeming increasingly like his greatest strength, this could very easily have gone 4-0 and robbed us of some really tense games. Even the decision to cheese in the final game was driven by the map. It's excellent to see.

4 GSL, WCG, MLG, Blizzcon it's absolutely crazy how successful he's been and all the more crazy after his slump at the start of the year and wrist issues that he's been able to bounce back to take that 4th GSL title, I just hope he can put together back to back good seasons and get effective treatment for his wrists.

With no nexus and no money to tech to stargate and get a phoenix or void ray out, a base trade would never have worked. Terran buildings can fly. MVP could have just flown his orbital to Squirtle's base and parked it next to his bunker if he wanted.

If i remember correctly it was from two stepps from hell. im quite sure - but i dont remember the title. they do have an insane amount off songs.

Youtube it up i guess?

ontopic: i wish squirtle would have taken the last game, just purely because the fact it was a hardcore cheese. but was a well deserved win for mvp, and im quite sure he wasn't even that prepared to go to the final game

I loved game 7. Game 7 was short and very exciting to me and I loved every minute of it.

Yeah, The last Map is really Favored for Protoss, And so as Cloud Kingdom and Dual Sight. So the cheese was not that bad. It also takes a lot of guts to actually open a 11/11 rax which is very risky considering it is the Game 7 of finals. It shows the confidence of Mvp in his skills

i believe the archon toilet destroyed more bcs, mvp had like 26 bc on the ground when he pushed out, 24 or 25 in front line. The vortex hit about 18 or 19 bcs, left only 5 or 6 out alone in battlefield.

I can't stop watching that video clip, just want to forget that heartbreaking game 7..

Game 5 was the best game of SC2 I've ever seen in my life. I guess I am a little bias because I wanted to see Squirtle complete the comeback but that was just unbelievable.

The fact that game 5 was part of his epic comeback makes that game all the more incredible. It's a *shame* that Squirtle didn't pull through in game 7, because that would have made his comeback even more incredible, but I was supporting MVP in the last game. A champion deserves to win, especially considering how hard he worked this GSL to get to the finals. Not taking anything away from Squirtle obviously.
