That said, I can't support buying an ace player. In this sense, EG is kind of a victim of Huk's success, this would have been such a non-story in my eyes if it had happened a couple months ago. Huk could have gone on to win dreakhack, hsc, and whatever else with an EG jersey and I would have commended EG for recognizing and appreciating his talent even when he hadn't won anything for awhile. As it is now though, it just looks like they are trying to buy out his accomplishments and success and put their name on it, and coming off the Puma-right-after-NASL deal, I think it's pretty clear how EG's management is approaching expanding their talent. I won't blame Huk for taking a life-changing deal, but I can't support management (or complacent sponsorship) that is unable or unwilling to foster new talent. Can't wait to see which Blizzcon player they pick up so they can have a jersey in that tournament. Or maybe they'll just skip that step and head straight to the winner! You do realise that EG has been interested in Huk for a long time. Huk had offers from both TL and EG before he joined TL. They went for him now because his contract with TL was ending (thats what I understood at least). You EG haters are trying so hard to look for some way to dislike them and their business. Why is it wrong to go for a top player? If the player agrees its the best decision, and the other team is okay with releasing that play I cannot see anything wrong at all, not at all. And why didnt you guys rag on mouze for picking up Thorzaine after his TSL3 victory? Same deal. There are so many examples of teams doing the same thing, but when EG does something so many people want to get the "lets hate EG" bandwagon rolling. Yes I realize that, that's why I made specific mention of the fact that EG is a victim of Huk's success. If Huk had lost those tourneys and EG picked him up, nonstory. If they had picked up Huk prior to his victories and then he went on to win with an EG jersey, nonstory. But that is not the way it happened. They saw him rise to the top of his game, his team, and the foreigner scene and then they made their offer. It is worth noting EG showed interest in Huk very early on when TL first picked him up as well, but it's also worth pointing out he had just won an MLG. Make no mistake, all team's will do this from time to time when they have the money advantage over the previous team (you pointed out Thorzain as another example of it), but not all team's utilize it as their sole acquisition method. Liquid has picked up plenty of players without any recent victories, and even unknowns like Hero when they see the talent. I just haven't seen EG do this. They have a pretty clear precedent of throwing jerseys at people as they are stepping off the podium and that's about it. Whats wrong with seeing if a player can produce results before giving him a huge amount of money? This is why you wait before you dish out huge sums of money to unproven players But its not like EG waited till he produced results to show interest. They showed interest along side TL. They got the player they wanted for a long time, and are paying him very very well. Nothing wrong with it, but there is a pretty broad line between being an "unproven player" and being undisputed the most successful foreign Starcraft player of the past few months. There are a ton midline players out there that have proven they are talented and could become top class with the right practice environment and support (which EG could easily provide). And yes EG showed interest initially (after he won MLG). I feel like that was so long ago though, I sincerely doubt they have been sitting on the sidelines trying to pick him up the whole time, and I also really doubt they would have picked him up without the types of results he's put out there recently. | ||
