EG is the Barcelona of Starcraft! Who are the yankees? never heard of them. American baseball team with 10 times the budget of any other team. The black hole of baseball talent.

And money is luxury after a while, pros make a decent living out of sc2, the very best in good teams wiht popular streams and prizewins. Im not saying if i was on a team whihc gives me close to nothing i wouldnt switch to one which grants me a salary i can live out of, but Huk already had it and it could be extended too to some degree. Really no need to get offensive about it, i ve just described how i felt about the situation

Would you not take a big salary increase and better training conditions if such an opportunity presented itself for you in YOUR professional career? Just don't lie to yourself. He can still be friends with all his friends, his work does not prevent that. I don't get why people are crying, you'd almost think HuK died or something. He is alive, well, and pursuing his professional dreams - his fans should be happy he has these opportunities.

For me, as someone who started watching SC1 in its waning years, and watched SC2 grew to be the monster game that it is today, this is the sign that the sport is truly changing. No longer are teams bound by friendship or mutual interests, but now, mostly by money or contracts. Of course, this development is not negative, but I'm still deciding how I feel about it all. Before this, I always thought of ESPORTS as equivalent to college-level sports, where players play for the love of the sport or the opportunity to go to school on a scholarship. There was never much "profit" to be made from it. Now, it is becoming like the NFL, eh, when so much money is involved, it loses a little bit of "heart". I know that doesn't mean shit in monetary terms, but there is still an emotional element to it all. College players don't get paid anything and even worse most don't even move on to the professional level in the sport they gave their all to. The sport is changing, definitely, but the fact that it's changing is not indicative of anything negative. Would professional sports ever be where they are if they never evolved and grew into something more structured? I struggle to see how this is hurting e-sports at all, but I can understand how you feel torn about it. To me though, I think you have to consider that while this sport has teams, each competitor is there alone in the game on an individual level when it comes down to it. Yes, team matters, and if it didn't Huk surely would have never had such a hard time making this choice (according to what we read). But so does financial security for X amount of time (haven't seen official numbers on Huk's contract and I apologize for not digging through tons of pages to try and spot something that may/may not be there). In the end though, the fact that Huk is even able to make the kind of money we can speculate he's making, is a triumph for E-Sports. A fellow gamer has turned the dream many of us had/have or wish we could pursue into something very tangible and stable. In the end it's an amazing thing that top players can secure themselves. in my opinion. Huk can still communicate with any of those TL guys, will still be at the same competitions, and can still really play against anyone he wants to. The only thing stopping any of that from happening is hard feelings from the TL side, which is fully understandable for them to feel a bit sore on the subject.
