EG is the Barcelona of Starcraft! Who are the yankees? never heard of them.

American baseball team with 10 times the budget of any other team. The black hole of baseball talent.

I totally understand all sides and wish Huk the best. I will just say that Mat is an extremely close personal friend of mine and it hurts him a lot to have invested so heavily into esports with his own money (all of which he earned by starting his own company) to have something like this happen.

Mat paid for the HDH tournament during beta, going out on a complete limb to give me complete control of the tournament without anything more than a blank check. He has taken huge risks in ESPORTS and even now continues to support it to his fullest.

I love ya Mat!

Good luck Huk, I dont think anyone will hold a grudge.

Who exactly is Mat by the way ?

i kinda feel like going trough the other thread and quoting everybody who kept saying that there' s literally no evidence of Huk leaving to Liquid, -even after Heosat's reddit post, Husky's huge dumb spoil, Supernova' s baited out confirmation on twitter and EG's scavenger hunt clues- and tell them their denail was futile and were acting stupid.

I never was a big Huk fan, though i appreciated him, as a person he gained a lot of negative points in my eyes, not that he shouldn't go for the bigger offer, but i think he made the wrong decision, Liquid stil would have paid him plenty of money, and gave and would have kept giving Huk stuff which can't be bought with money.

Biggest cliche of all time, but money doesnt make one happy, i really feel it s true, you can buy some sort of happiness with it, though careful how much of your granted happiness do u sacrifice for it. Kinda the same as with health, you sacrifice your health to make more money via working more and in worse conditions, then when you have all the money you could get you re spending it to get your health back, but it will never be the way it was before.

I think he made the wrong move, if i were him, i would have turned down the offer even if it s 5 times that of Liquid's renewed one, not neccesarily out of blind loyality, but for reasons mentioned above, plus to boast with being on the team with the largest community and support behind it.

I know this is not a common point of view but Liquid and EG are my favorite 2 teams, so im not like going on to hate any of them or Huk for the switch, i hope he does well, i really do, i have the foreigner pride as well, it s just really depressing a bit

You act as if money is just a luxury. You would even deny 5x salary? Have you ever supported yourself and others in life?

as a matter of a fact yes. And money is luxury after a while, pros make a decent living out of sc2, the very best in good teams wiht popular streams and prizewins. Im not saying if i was on a team whihc gives me close to nothing i wouldnt switch to one which grants me a salary i can live out of, but Huk already had it and it could be extended too to some degree. Really no need to get offensive about it, i ve just described how i felt about the situation

I understand why this is sad for TL, but I don't know why everybody else is acting like this is the worse news in the world. He's joining a new team, not quitting the game!

Too bad, he had to betray his team and friends to do it and probably come out a lesser player too.

Relax dude, its just WORK for them.

Would you not take a big salary increase and better training conditions if such an opportunity presented itself for you in YOUR professional career?

Just don't lie to yourself.

He can still be friends with all his friends, his work does not prevent that.

I don't get why people are crying, you'd almost think HuK died or something. He is alive, well, and pursuing his professional dreams - his fans should be happy he has these opportunities.

This news is really sad for me. For me, as someone who started watching SC1 in its waning years, and watched SC2 grew to be the monster game that it is today, this is the sign that the sport is truly changing. No longer are teams bound by friendship or mutual interests, but now, mostly by money or contracts. Of course, this development is not negative, but I'm still deciding how I feel about it all.

Before this, I always thought of ESPORTS as equivalent to college-level sports, where players play for the love of the sport or the opportunity to go to school on a scholarship. There was never much "profit" to be made from it. Now, it is becoming like the NFL, eh, when so much money is involved, it loses a little bit of "heart". I know that doesn't mean shit in monetary terms, but there is still an emotional element to it all.

College players don't get paid anything and even worse most don't even move on to the professional level in the sport they gave their all to.

The sport is changing, definitely, but the fact that it's changing is not indicative of anything negative. Would professional sports ever be where they are if they never evolved and grew into something more structured? I struggle to see how this is hurting e-sports at all, but I can understand how you feel torn about it. To me though, I think you have to consider that while this sport has teams, each competitor is there alone in the game on an individual level when it comes down to it. Yes, team matters, and if it didn't Huk surely would have never had such a hard time making this choice (according to what we read). But so does financial security for X amount of time (haven't seen official numbers on Huk's contract and I apologize for not digging through tons of pages to try and spot something that may/may not be there). In the end though, the fact that Huk is even able to make the kind of money we can speculate he's making, is a triumph for E-Sports. A fellow gamer has turned the dream many of us had/have or wish we could pursue into something very tangible and stable. In the end it's an amazing thing that top players can secure themselves. in my opinion. Huk can still communicate with any of those TL guys, will still be at the same competitions, and can still really play against anyone he wants to. The only thing stopping any of that from happening is hard feelings from the TL side, which is fully understandable for them to feel a bit sore on the subject.

Gl to Huk! You will be missed! And good luck in EG! i hope that the decision is as prosperous for you as possible! But just because your going to be on another team doesnt mean you have to leave all of your friends behind! theyll just be farther away than usual! Best of luck to you, EG, and TL!!
