Tournament Roundup #2
August 26th, 2010 08:37 GMT
Welcome to this week's tournament recap! In the West, this week was dominated by the IEM Global Challenge at Gamescom. In Korea, Star2Gether Siege grabbed headlines. While these two majors played out, several minor competitions went down. This is the news post that should help you get a grips with what is going on!
Each week we will bring you a link-heavy thread summarising the results from the minor tournaments from the past week - linking replays , vods , Liquipedia articles and threads where possible. This should be the only stop necessary to get a glimpse at how the competitive scene is shaping up! Note that this post won't be covering the results from the major tournaments, those will be covered by separate news posts.
Star2Gether Siege (8/21) This long Korean tournament saw the best in the country face off against a myraid of opponents. In the end, the familiar Protoss Tester came out on top, undefeated and unquestionably one of the best in the world.

IEM Gamescom (8/18-8/22). MorroW took arguably the most difficult path to the grand prize and put on an impressive show each step of the way. Idra and Dimaga grabbed second and third place to round out StarCraft 2's biggest event thus far.

Description: + Show Spoiler +Morrow opens in his traditional style, heavy heavy macro. While Nightend opens with standard PvT play, until he switched to building a lot of Phoenix. Morrow's insane macro allows his to play a Brood War-esque Terran push style which puts Nightend way behind. Nightend miraculously holds on and gives Morrow everything he's got. Does he have enough to pull back the game? Watch the rep and find out.
The TeamLiquid Tournament Tracker is there for your convenience, check it out.
We have several big tournaments coming up. The MLG stop in Raleigh will begin on Friday the 27th. If you can believe it, the GSL finally kicks off the next day on the 28th. It will be interesting to see what happens to minor tournaments while two of the largest competitions in all the land kick off. It's going to be a big week for StarCraft 2 and I could not be more excited. Oh, and don't forget about all the regular weekly tournaments that are going on!
If you are a tournament organiser and want to know how you can cooperate with TeamLiquid to promote your tournament, get into this weekly report and any queries in general - please contact Plexa who is in charge of TL's SC2 content. TL is always happy to help out grass roots tournaments and those who genuinely care about the community - so please contact Plexa to see what we can work out for you!
Until next week!

Nice write-up mate. Loving SC Center by the way (been watching since the first episode and it's really progressing nicely). It's got to be a lot of work, so really appreciated! Keep it up man :>
Thanks for the write up. That was a damn good game.
Good stuff! I love socke's style! He will be great soon enough!
No zerg with medals? Terran op.

These updates are so fantastic for the casual fan.
Thank you chobo!

very nice write up, but one small thing u could add, like the price pool for the tournament (ime i.e. 15k), so we instantly see the worth of the tournament and which player are making money with winning tournament this would be a great addition in my opinion
I enjoyed the replay as well =) The whole roundup looks good.

Thank you sir. The recaps are a really great idea

Sjow is doing so well in the euro tourneys. It's gonna be interesting to see him in the MLG Raleigh event.
Nice write up and thanks for the update on these tournaments. There are so many going on, alot of little minor ones, but it's nice to get a round up so I'm not running around looking.
great great recap, making SC2 so much easyer to follow Thanks TL
Really dig the recap! Hope this becomes a regular thing!
MLG and GSL. *spasms uncontrollably*
I'm so excited for this weekend!!
Thanks for keeping everyone updated on what's going on. Very handy for those of us who are busy.
Once again, another great tournament recap! I have to say the same thing that I did last week: I love the overall concision of the recap, as well as the myriad links to all of the VODs, replays, and Liquipedia pages, so that I can learn more if I really want to. With the flurry of tournaments going on, this is a must-read for busy individuals who'd like to stay on top of what is going on in the competitive StarCraft 2 scene. Please keep them coming, and overall, a very nice write-up choboPEon!
great recap! vods and replays! Hoorray! Morrow pwnzors.
tons of events..difficult to follow all of them..this recap is really usefull
Any reason morrow never spent 50/50 on 5 base to get the insanely good concussive shell upgrade when he was massing marauders vs nightend?
Good argument that upgrade doesnt need to exist imo ;p
Loving this synopisis of the tournaments. I have spent a ton of time on TL in the past week and missed so much! Once school starts up again this will be invaluable. Thanks!
I hope Liquid can make through the 2000-person qualifiers for the GSL, with that many people using bo3 it can become a bit of a crapshoot. Prepare a lot of anti-cheese builds!
The new layout was alright, but the new conviction of being the best SC2 site in the world by an even larger margin is the best part.

Looking good, Pat

Thanks for this! One question, is there a threshold for tournament size/quality/prize/etc for it to show up in the podium highlights? Just trying to get a sense of the level of tournaments that you're counting up in there.
Thanks again.
its really great u guys are doing these weekly round ups! keep em coming!

No cut and dry numbers, just a subjective combination of money and prestige has to be involved. You can PM me if you'd like me to take a look at your tournament but if you're not sure, the answer is probably no.

Thanks - Don't have a specific one I'm asking about, was mostly just curious about what the cutoff was.

once again an awesome recap!
Thanks for all of the work!
Thanks for the write-up and the replay. It's interesting to see the breakdown of the tourneys and who's done well in them. I'm highly anticipating some info on the GOM tourney. How come GOM hasn't updated their English site since the release of SC2?
Nice write up! To bad no zerg in the podium highlights :'(.

Been waiting for something like this. Good stuff. Keep it up!
