This was a long-running tournament featuring some big Korean names that just finished this weekend.

They had 6 of the best players in Korea each play 5 bo1 matches back-to-back against other top players (not each other) to see who would progress on to the next round (this is what Idra played Inca for in the GOM studio last week). The 6 invited players were:

Ensnare (T)
Tester (P)
Check (Z)
Cool (Z)
Inca (P)
Maka (T)

Their results in the first stage of the tournament were as follows:

+ Show Spoiler +
Ensnare > Aory (P)
Ensnare > Dayfly (T)
Ensnare > TheWind (Z)
Ensnare < Vical (P)
Ensnare > Gon (T)

Tester > Hyperdub (T)
Tester > Zenio (Z)
Tester > Mio (T)
Tester > Genius (P)
Tester > Gerrard (Z)

Check > Vical (P)
Check < Hyperdub (T)
Check < Cyan (P)
Check > Sirasoni (Z)
Check < Mio (T)

Cool > Heonjungwachim (T)
Cool < Cyan (P)
Cool < TOP (T)
Cool > Gerrard (Z)
Cool > Anypro (P)

Inca > Zenio (Z)
Inca > Sound (T)
Inca < Idra (Z)
Inca > ssapoZenith (P)
Inca < TheStC (T)

Maka < Hyperdub (T)
Maka > Smuft (P)
Maka > Asia (T)
Maka > TheWind (Z)
Maka > City (P)

This meant the standings were:

+ Show Spoiler +
1. Tester (5-0)
2. Ensnare (4-1)
2. Maka (4-1)
4. Cool (3-2)
4. Inca (3-2)
6. Check (2-3)

So then the 1st placed player moved immediately on to the finals, while the 2nd and 3rd played each other in a bo3 to see who would meet him.

Semi-final result:

+ Show Spoiler +
Ensnare 2-1 Maka

And then the final bo5 series, which was played on Saturday:

+ Show Spoiler +
Tester 3-0 Ensnare

Tester wins the tournament!

dunno if these really are the best players korea has to offer, but if it is, then things are looking up for the foreigner scene.

IdrA has good wins over tester (and inca!), and tester didnt look too invincible in the KOTB,

guess we have to wait for hd and husky to get on the ball with the HDH2 so we can keep on comparing.

Even though tester dominated, and ultimately deserved the victory, there are some obvious biases in this event.

So 6 players end up playing 5 random (but skilled?) players from a pool of 22 (may have counted wrong). Seems pretty lucky depending on who you get placed against. Inca seemed to have gotten a bad draw as he ended up playing both IdrA and StC. Since only the top 3 advance, and 1st place gets a by straight to the finals, it's even more advantageous to the player who gets easy opponents.
Perhaps there are some details I am missing, as it would be pretty lame if I were playing in a format like that.

Anyways, hope to view the replays/vods once I get home

Not a post about balance, merely an observation.

16 - Terran wins
8 - Protoss wins
6 - Zerg wins
Lee Jae Dong proved that a focus on mechanics and execution could solve problems in the StarCraft game strategy.

6 zerg wins.
You forgot to count idra's

But nifty observation, also there are more terrans in the random pool than the other two races.

Smuft also played, huh?

Very weird format lol.

If you click that, you can change your speed to 500-700kbps. It allowed me to watch the videos without buffering problems

this format was lame. seriously. Idra would beat the hole group straight up.... And only them go to the finals. I hope gome is not seriously trying to keep this format for other tournaments.

It's actually pretty good format for an "inbetween" SC2 tourney before the big ones hit.

People get to see their favorites and some other *good* players they might don't know yet.

i also find it kind of funny how they match up inca against the arguably two best players of their respective races (idrA & TheStC), didn't even the ogs manager tell that TheStc is currently their "best" ?

well i guess they just wanted to show the crowd some exciting showmatches with different matchups each round so it's as interesting for the koreans as possible to win them for sc2, so it`s a good thing!
what ?

Pretty sure he said Ensnare is the best.

Ensnare is a beast. TheStC is a beast. I like Ensnare more because his name rapes. ^^

I think its awesome that they sacrificed balance to make something different.
Jaedong gives me a deep resonance.
