Because it is. Often times deadline is much later than this midnight deadline for me. It makes it possible to stay up when it gets important but I don't see why you think I would keep myself awake after midnight just for the start of the game. I skipped games with less than 2 mafia, and the one with the brackets is holyflare's game where people just posted popcorn after the game started until he further reminded people that the game had actually started (mafia was first popcorn poster, but didn't post again until 18th).
