That's not to say that a surgical solution is all bad, but given that cancer can metastasise and that removal of a larger tumor causes smaller tumors to grow, lopping off a limb is pretty dangerous. An ideal solution is probably some kind of surgery where just the tumor is removed, coupled with chemotherapy and radiation to kill whatever's left and also anything else in the body. This leads to the best patient health outcomes.
