Standard Mafia Rules
+ Show Spoiler [Standard OP] +Introduction: Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia. The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules: Cheating: Standard rules apply. If you're not familiar with them, please read them below. + Show Spoiler +Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information.
2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town.
3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role.
4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles.
5. Posting screenshots of your inbox.
6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host.
7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip.
8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits.
10. Sharing accounts with other players unless cleared by the host in advance. Otherwise, only you may post on your account.
11. Breadcrumbing the specific phrasing of your role PM. Do not compare the phrasing in your role PM to prove your alignment. You can claim the abilities you have, but you can't use the specific phrasing of your role PM.
12. Posting a false role PM phrased as if you received it from the host. You can still fake roleclaim, but you cannot make it look like you are posting a PM you received from the host. Game & Setup Information
Overview:
The setup is a semi-open setup for 13 players using a subset of the roles from the Mafiascum.net C9++ setup. Note that this setup was NOT generated using the C9++ algorithm and may or may not be a possible outcome of that algorithm. The game is inherently balanced for both sides depending on the types and numbers of roles that appear. Mafia wins when all town are eliminated or this is inevitable. Town wins by eliminating all mafia members. Mafia kill power is always 1.

Vanilla Town

Summary:
- Deadline is at 00:00 GMT (+00:00). I'm comfortable with any time within a few hours either side of this, so if there is a commonly expressed preference before the game this is flexible.
- Voting rule is Plurality. i.e. the player who has the most votes, or had more votes most recently in case of a tie, is lynched at the deadline.
- The game starts with 10 town and 3 mafia. There are no third parties.
- Mafia KP is always 1.
- Town wins when all mafia are dead.
- Mafia wins when all town are dead or this is inevitable (assuming they send in nightkills and do not vote for one another).
- Target is notified of roleblocks. Neither doctor nor target is notified of doctor save.
- All role PMs are in the OP.
- Play nice.
Other Notes:
- If two roleblockers target each other they are both informed.
- Masons who are roleblocked will not be prevented from communicating with their partner(s).
- Masons are confirmed town to each other.
- Millers are self-aware.
- One person on the mafia team may carry out the kill each night. The mafia can choose not to kill. The mafia can kill each other. If the mafia member chosen to kill on a particular night is roleblocked, no kill will occur.
- All roleblocks will result in the target being notified.
- If at any time I receive PMs from all players requesting shortened days, all days commencing after that time will be shortened to 24 hours. Please hold in-thread discussion of this possibility to a minimum.
- Please do not discuss the possibility of mafia conceding in the thread. If mafia want to concede, they'll let me know.

Signups:
Wisdom of the Crowds
If you do not wish to play with a player for any reason, PM me, if I receive enough votes against a player (five or more) then he or she will not be allowed to play in this game. Your vote against a player will be held in the strictest confidence. You *must* be signed up to vote against someone.
I also reserve the right to disallow players from this game myself. I don't expect to do much of this.
I will do whatever I feel is necessary, before and during the game, to ensure people who sign up to this game and make an effort to play to expectations (as defined below) enjoy playing this game themselves. If you do not satisfy these criteria, expect no consideration from me.
Moderation and Behaviour:
I expect two things from everybody who plays this game:
1. Play in such a way that everybody can have fun.
2. Play to win.
I view the second rule as a part of the first.
I appreciate that Mafia is an emotional game, and that furthermore many Mafia players use annoying others and gauging their emotional reactions as a strategy. I don't want to cramp your style and I will try to be permissive - however, be aware that there are limits to my tolerance.
Unacceptable behaviours include:
- Personal attacks (as in, attacking the person rather than the argument)
- Unreasonable threats, either in-game or out-game (e.g. "Do as I say or I will spam up the thread for the rest of the game", "Do as I say or I'll get myself modkilled", "Do as I say or I'll kick you from the game I'm running", etc.)
- Basically, posts which aren't about the current game
I will treat all of these very seriously. If you have a problem with another player's posting and I haven't done anything about it, feel free to bring it to my attention privately - either I haven't noticed it, I have a different opinion on the permissibility of their posting, or I have dealt with it privately. Don't be upset if I continue to apparently do nothing about it - I may have dealt with it privately and not wish to share that information with you, even postgame.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT ABUSE THESE RULES. If you have a problem with someone else's posting bring it to me PRIVATELY. If you attempt to leverage for in-game purposes your dissatisfaction (genuine or not) with someone else's play, for whatever motives, I WILL modkill you. You will not be given a warning first.
EDIT: I'm not saying you can't politely ask someone to modify their behaviour, but please don't turn it into the main focus of discussion.
Don't talk about replacing out, ragequitting etc. in the thread either. If you need to leave for whatever reason, talk to me privately and we can make arrangements.
Yes, perhaps I'm being tyrannical. I have some distaste myself for these measures but I think they're necessary to ensure that everyone who plays has a good time. If that bothers you too much, just don't sign up.

It was the Boxing-day after the last Christmas before the End of the World, and, together with a sizeable handful of his fellow-members, Obzy was lounging away the remaining shreds of the tattered epoch in the Trance-Room of the Surrealist e-Sporting Club.
They were engaged in the traditional Boxing-day pasttime of shooting down their Hangovers. iamperfection, with a shrewd left and right from his trusty old elephant gun, had just put paid to a frightful franged Apparition which had been pursuing him hotly ever since breakfast. Artanis[Xp] was taking aim at a great grey Cloud of Unknowing that hovered over the sofa on which he lay outstretched. LSB was blazing away at the Spots in front of his eyes. mkfuba07, the surrealist Hearthstone player, had just brought the chandelier crashing to the floor and blown off several of the Oldest Member's members in a plucky but characteristically rash attempt to dispel by rocket-fire a hideous black Shape answering to the name of the Dark Night of the Soul which was harassing his trusty but congenitally melancholic comrade, thrawn2112.
At that moment Aquanim, who had been shouting away to himself in the Silence Room, blew in and challenged all and sundry to a quiet game of Mafia.

Surrealist mafia is played rather differently from the ordinary kind. Anti-semi-open setups are popular; that is, the players know exactly how many of each role are present in the game, but not what the roles actually are. Shenanigans are encouraged and penalised by modkill on alternate days, and players can move in all 2.7268 dimensions at will.
The brown team took an early lead in the first portion of the day, destroying several towers and keeping the fuschia team on the back foot. However, in the final quarter a valiant home run made by the challengers evened the score.
The only casualty of the day was Corazon, who fell under a wagon carrying assorted refreshments for the weary players. Though Corazon escaped without any major injuries, spilling the glasses of cordial cordially provided by Alakaslam for the thirsty players got him mobbed by the rest of the field.
Corazon the Mafia Goon has fallen under a wagon!

I didn't think it was fair to town to let the Mr. Cheesecake slot be replaced into, given the posts he'd made after his statement he was asking for replacement which "confirmed" him as town.
(One wonders how effective "dick-move analysis" is, really... I was tempted to replace the slot and watch you not lynch it for two weeks as an object lesson, but that would have been pretty un-fun. Hopefully the lesson is learned anyway.)
With one mafioso lynched and another modkilled Artanis felt he was practically in an unwinnable position, so I've accepted his resignation.
It's unfortunate that the game has ended this way, but letting it drag on further (no matter what the decision about the Mr. Cheesecake slot) didn't seem like it would be fun for anybody.
In future I think I'll make the rules about talking about replacement in the thread even more crystal-clear.
I hope you all enjoyed playing this game, even though it was cut short. I've personally enjoyed reading it more than many games of late.

Having reread it I stand by Alakaslam's sentiment in that I think you both needed to be reminded that bashing on Kush wasn't a productive use of your time. However, I don't think it progressed to the stage where a banlist warning is warranted.

To be honest I think both of you (bugs and marv) have a point.
- Town could have played better
- Town did play better than the majority of games in the last 6 months
The atmosphere wasn't absolutely ideal, but nobody ragequit and nobody spent the entire game flaming. That made it possible to find scum. Sure, logical fallacies and so forth in people's arguments might have made town fall short against a skilled scumteam, but a non-toxic thread is the first requirement.
Activity from some players could have been better, but nobody was in the modkill zone. (I suspect Kush would have started playing more effectively if the game had gone on longer, since he was no longer playing in Extractor Trick as well. Also because I think IIRC his play generally improves past d1.)
A quick aside: When I saw the signup list, even before I'd assigned roles, I knew this was going to be a rough game for scum. I know at least four people on this list have much better towngame than scumgame, and there was very little in the way of lynchbait. (Compare with, say, Titanic I, in which I looked at the signup list and figured scum probably had it.)
