I haven't faced him much as a support, but in general he's just a pain in the ass if he isn't too much behind, and really, really good with multi-threat teams, just because he is so hard to kill with his E up, and contrary to Alistar he doesn't really suffer from long cd on his cc thanks to the way his passive works. So you really can't ignore him, but he's so hard to take down or keep at bay that mobile, damage-oriented ranged picks behind him become "enhanced".
