Schedule! It’s been a long and prosperous year for speedrunning. Twitch viewcounts skyrocketing, more and more partnered streams and a bunch of huge marathons were all kicked off by one thing: AGDQ valiantly returns! The biggest and best speedrunning event running from Sunday, Jan 06 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) until late night Saturday 12th January! Speedrunners from all over are gathering once more in Washington DC to raise money live for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, which focuses on research and education for preventable cancers. That's right, more than 120 games! With the event getting bigger and bigger we’ve added an extra day to bring 6 full days of speedrunning goodness with our most ridiculous roster yet: There’s Final Fantasy IX, Ocarina of Time (100%) and Pokemon Gold. Samus, Sonic and Donkey[b] return with even crazier runs. Hate console games? How about Portal 2, Amnesia or Starcraft 2? Retro only fan? Have some Contra, Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. If any of you don’t cream yourselves in anticipation from at least one of these games then I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you. AGDQ even includes another fantastic night dedicated to awful games: Lick those lips in anticipation of Shadow the Hedgehog, Earnest Evans and Bio Force Ape. Check out the Marathon Schedule over on the SDA marathon page for a complete list of games and a time schedule. Oh, we also have Super Mario 64 120 Star and LoZ: The Wind Waker by you-know-who. But why Awesome Games Done Quick? Speedrunning has been huge over the last year and right at the centre of it you’ll find SDA, SRL & Twitch.tv all of which are involved here. This marathon is so hype that the marathon to send people there (Numbersmw marathon) was insane. Many of your favourite runners from Twitch are there alongside world record holders and people prepared to convince you that F-Zero isn’t that hard, Dark Souls is an hour long romp in the park and that Darksiders isn’t even a game (you’ll see what I mean). On top of that, the stream will run 24 hours a day for the entirety of the marathon. So long winter blues, hello speedruns! In case you needed more convincing, Awesome Games Done Quick offers unbeatable live (on camera) speedrun commentary alongside the gaming action. With donation incentives allow you to change the way the game is played as well as naming characters and even the chance to vote games into the marathon. On top of that, when you donate you get a shot at winning incredible prizes, from unique artwork, gaming replicas (like a goddamn GunBlade) as well as a load of games, collectibles and so on. Aside from my honest opinion that it’s the greatest gaming event of the year, this is something that I know Team Liquid has greatly enjoyed in the past. The members have had a massive presence in previous marathons and this year, we’ll have our biggest yet. The combination of high level play and relaxed fun atmosphere really show what gaming is all about: just a bunch of people having fun and playing games. Oh, and I will be there once again and I need your help! I will be trying to play Devil May Cry 3 on Saturday, Jan 12 7:10am GMT (GMT+00:00) (Very Hard, New Game+) but it's a donation war between Vergil and Dante! Whichever character gets more money, is the character used in the run. I'll be the Dante runner and Spineshark the Vergil runner so it all hangs in the balance. On top of that I'll be doing Left 4 Dead 4 Player Co-op Tuesday, Jan 08 10:45am GMT (GMT+00:00) on so come check it out, make a few donations and tell your friends! Last Year's Thread (recommended) ############################# TeamLiquid Donation Campaign – Name Steiner, Violet Each year, AGDQ has lots of donation drives for various challenges, naming characters and pulling off certain tricks. In the AGDQ`11 thread, Jibba mentioned grouping up to name a Chrono Trigger, I loved the idea and last year we banded together in our attempt to name Tifa, ESPORTS. As you may recall, we missed out on our initial goal and had to settle for Cait Sith. However, in the process we helped turn the Tifa naming into one of the biggest donation drives at any marathon (it took in over $8000) and really made a difference on the marathon total. This year is Final Fantasy IX and we’re setting our sights just as high and going to an even worthier cause. We had a lot of fun last year with ESPORTS but we thought that with the passing of BW Pro Woo “Violet” Jung Ho to Leukaemia this year, there would no more appropriate name than his. While initially thinking of naming Vivi “Violet”, we decided that Violet deserved to lead the charge and be the real king of the run. Why is that? Steiner is the goddamn man and anyone who disagrees doesn’t know shit. Everyone is just bleh in comparison. Steiner is used for the majority of the run and while appearing a bit of a clown is honourable and brave in the face of danger. Oh, and he destroys every enemy he comes across and gets to use the rarest equip in the entire game – The Excalibur II. He is an absolutely key part of the team (much like Violet was) and would be the best dedication we can give. Now obviously you don't have to donate for this if you don't want to. If you want to donate for a challenge or for another game, go right ahead! If you really can't donate but want to help out, you can still advertise to your friends and just enjoy the show! However, with a nice group effort like this, the TL community can really make their mark on the marathon and do some good. If you want to donate to name Steiner “Violet”, all you have to do is tune in while watching the marathon, then click the chip-in page. Once you've sent in your money by whatever means you want, just leave a chip-in comment (not paypal) saying that your money is towards naming Steiner, Violet! You can also shoutout to TL, your dog, house or anything you want there. There might be a start point for donations, so if you're unsure if they've started yet, just ask in chat!
