I don't understand how Riot can miss something so easy. Automatic qualification for winning Spring and Summer, and have summer be worth more points to avoid a Najin Black Sword/KT Bullets situation. It is a step in the right direction with the circuit points at least. I also would have also preferred Bo3.

I feel like shit like this needs to be announced MONTHS in advance for teams. It's so unprofessional to release this shit 2 weeks before season starts. Similarly the World's announcement for S4 was fucking stupid as hell.

I can't confirm, but I feel like they probably shared this news with teams before announcing it to the pubic.

Knowing Riot they didn't.

Knowing Riot, they did. They almost always share schedules and format changes with the owners before going public.

Figured. Riot gets a bad rap about some of their decisions but they aren't as incompetent as a lot of people seem to think.

How early? Like early enough to plan for free agency of players?

That sucks for the 10th place team. Not even a chance of challenging the 1st place challenger team for the LCS spot.

They had enough chances to not be 10th over a 9 week split. I like it better this way.

I do believe a Bo3 situation would be better if they only play each other 2 times. One game doesn't really show the skill of the teams or management, you could just cheese a victory. I do like that the bottom team is dropped out of the LCS for a challenger team, this helps circulate the talent in each region. We will see how this turns out!

Bo5 > Bo3 > Bo2 > Bo1 > Bo4.

I fear the day of the Bo4. But honestly, I think Bo1 is fine with the ten team format. Riot doesn't want to have weeks where TSM or another big team doesn't play. With the Bo1 system, you will see TSM every week. Meaning the viewers will be there for all fanbases.

I think automatic qualification is fine for the 1st seed NACS team, but at the same time it might cause some problems like choking in playoff games. The promotion tournament is tough, but maybe it helps players prepare for high pressure situations better. Curse Academy did well in the NA expansion tournament after losing in a reverse sweep against CLG :p

I'm worried about better teams getting relegated. The 1st placed challenger team might not as be good as the 10th place LCS team.

I really dislike that the last place team is automatically relegated that means challenger 2nd 3rd teams are almost a high priority to riot then the 10th place team... That makes zero sense what if they only come last by one match and bam automatically gone. Then the 3rd place challenger teams wins a few games gets a shot at an lcs spot. That's crazy to me

I think they should have a challenger playoff series that the last placed LCS team should automatically be in if the 1st challenger series team gets promoted

This. Superweeks were probably the best thing in LCS. More games = more fun.

I think it's a change that had to be made and I fully support it.
It's much more in line with other sports formats and it just makes sense, if you are 10th in the LCS, you should be replaced. it's pretty black and white to me.

People are very split on the auto relegation rule. Honestly seems pretty close to 50/50 with reasonable arguments on both sides. Don't see that happen often.

I feel that the auto relegation rule has more to do with giving other teams a chance at improving. The whole point of this league system rather than a tournament based thing like the old OGN was that it's less brutal on the weaker teams, while still giving them a chance to improve. If you're last place, it's pretty clear that you haven't improved at the pace that's needed. By automatically kicking them out and allowing the 1st place team to join, it's pretty much saying that the 10th place team didn't improve enough to stay in and thus it's the 1st place challenger team's chance to try at it.

The auto relegation system is really good. Of course that in some cases the LCS team would beat the CS team, but that is because that team has been playing against the best teams of the region and has a lot more money to pay for a good staff team. If you give that chances and that money to a CS they may do better, that is why you use this system. And you also help to increase the level of the CS.

I think the success of the auto-relegation decision will depend on how well Riot improve the stability of the challenger scene.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I like autopromotion, but I'm not a huge fan of autorelegation. Instead of relegating the team, I wonder if they could do like a double round robin group stage with the three worst LCS teams and the other two CS teams and the top two teams with best records get the final two spots.

I love the idea of teams getting auto promoted just to promote growth and development and give challenger teams a guaranteed opportunity to make LCS, but I feel like the last-place LCS team should still get a chance to play for their spot. Just in the past split, there was a tiebreaker for last in EU and in NA, a game between the 7th/8th place team in the last week of the season that finalized the rankings - it can be very close.
