Welcome to the first annual Who Ya Got League of Legends World Championship Bracketology contest!
I don't know what this is about, but it's giving me an esports stiffie. Tell me all about it JonGalt! Don't worry my friend, I will satisfy your eboner.
How often do you go into a LR thread and see such things as: "TSM gonna 3-0 ezpz" "SKT gonna take the finals 3-2" "Gambit can't lose! They'll beat Fnatic 3-1"
Everyone loves to make predictions, but now it's time to sack up and put your edollars where your keyboard is.
Sounds like fun, but how does it work!? Well I will tell you exactly how it's going down
Who Ya Got 2013 will be played in 2 stages - the group stage and the bracket stage.
After weeks of thought, calculations, and failed algorithms I have created a flawless system to determine the winners of Who Ya Got 2013.
Group Stage
1) You receive 3 points for correctly predicting the place of each team throughout the group stage. 2) You receive 2 points for correctly predicting the map score of each team throughout the group stage. 3) You receive 10 extra points for correctly predicting the exact standings of a group. You receive an additional 10 points if you also have the correct map scores as well.
Max points = (15 + 10 + 10 + 10) * 2 = 90
Bracket Stage
1) You receive 5 points for correctly predicting each quarterfinal match and an extra 2.5 points for the correct map score. 2) You receive 15 points for correctly predicting each semi final match and an extra 5 points for the correct map score. 3) You receive 40 points for correctly predicting the final match and an extra 10 points for the correct map score.
Max points = 20 + 10 + 30 + 10 + 40 + 10 = 120
But wait JonGalt, the quarterfinal matches will be randomly drawn. How ever will this work!? Good point, but don't worry - I've got you covered.
There will be 3 different ways to win: 1) Best Group Stage Score 2) Best Bracket Stage Score 3) Best Overall Score
ALL GROUP STAGE PREDICTIONS MUST BE MADE BY SEPTEMBER 15, 12PM PST
After the group stages have concluded, and the bracket has been finalized, you will be able to make your bracket prediction.
ALL BRACKET PREDICTIONS MUST BE MADE BY SEPTEMBER 23, 2PM PST
I'M EXCITED AS SCHOOL GIRL GOING TO PROM!! But what can we win!? Your questions are on point today! There are many exciting prizes to win!
Each winner will receive an official Who Ya Got certificate, sent all the way from Lesotho!
The overall winner will also receive a souvenir from Lesotho and the right to call themselves the original Leagueodamus!
Who will claim the title? Will the TL writing staff triumph? Will Yango make us all look like fools? Will your average TL LoL community member rise to the challenge? Or does an underdog like JonGalt, who has only seen one game in all of Season 3, stand a chance?
--------------------------------------
Group A 1) SKT 8-0 2) TSM 5-3 3) OMG 5-3 4) LD 2-6 5) GG.EU 0-8
Group B 1) Samsung 7-1 2) Fnatic 6-2 3) Gambit 4-4 4) Vulcun 3-5 5) Mineski 0-8
Group A 1) SKT 8-0 2) LD 5-3 3) OMG 4-4 4) TSM 3-5 5) GG.EU 0-8
Group B 1) Samsung 8-0 2) Fnatic 5-3 3) Gambit 5-3 4) Vulcun 2-6 5) Mineski 0-8
Gambit over Fnatic in a tiebreaker.
Also just for clarity, since Fnatic-Gambit would be 1-1 in my prediction whether Riot places Fnatic or Gambit at 2 before the tiebreaker shouldn't matter.
Group A 1) SKT 8-0 2) LD 5-3 3) OMG 4-4 4) TSM 3-5 5) GG.EU 0-8
Group B 1) Samsung 8-0 2) Fnatic 6-2 3) Gambit 3-5 4) Vulcun 3-5 5) Mineski 0-8
Lemondogs looked really strong in the last weeks. I'm hoping that they can continue their performance on the international stage. While I think that pretty much any of the LCS teams that qualified can perhaps take a game off the Koreans, I doubt that anyone will be able to take a game against the Korean Teams in a Best of 1 Round Robin.
I'm really thinking that TSM has a good chance against LemonDogs. Maybe not the favorites, but they have TONS more international experience, and playing at events like Worlds is something TSM has done countless times, but Lemondogs has only played in front of a big crowd once or twice.
Samsung 7-1 Vulcun 5-3 Gambit 4-4 (Gambit beats Fnatic, if there are tiebreakers for 3rd) Fnatic 4-4 Mineski 0-8
Some things to note-
Group A: I can't see GG.EU going 0-8 simply because I feel TSM and LemonDogs both have the ability to throw games. I feel like OMG or LemonDogs can take at least one game off of SKT since they can both take early leads and ride it out. I still don't feel like TSM can beat Koreans, or rather the Korean style. Just look at how they got crushed against Cloud 9 in the last match of the season.
Group B: I have no idea what team Mineski is, but this group is a lot harder to expect big throws from. Maybe small throws, but not enough for a team I've never even heard of to take games. In terms of strategy, all teams other than Mineski (and maybe even Mineski) are well aware of the Korean style. Vulcun has taken 2 games off of Cloud 9, and really should have taken 3. They are very good against the Korean style.
What I give Vulcan the 5-3 expectation is actually the ZyrAshe combo. I think this bot duo combo is the real deal, and Koreans don't seem to give it enough credit. I believe there's enough time for Zuna and Bloodwater to perfect it, and it will take 2 or 3 wins before teams decide to just ban or take Zyra away from them.
Of course, there's a much higher probabability of me being completely wrong.
If the right Gambit somehow turns up, they can look unstoppable on their day, but then you could say that about any of the European teams Maybe they are all just mediocre ^^
Well in previous tournaments Gambit have usually looked really shakey on day1 or group stages. If I remember correctly, they once barely scraped out of groups from a 3-way tie and eventually went on to win the whole thing.
I'd say they're more likely to win the whole thing than go 8-0 in groups.
I think Gambit Gaming really suits their name well lol. They are fully capable of 8-0 on a good day. To this day, I STILL don't fully understand the Russian tactics.
Group A 1) SKT 8-0 2) OMG 6-2 3) LD 4-4 4) TSM 2-6 5) GG.EU 0-8
Group B 1) Samsung 7-1 2) Fnatic 6-2 3) Gambit 3-5 (wins tiebreaker) 4) Mineski 3-5 5) Vulcun 1-7
I think Gambit has the potential to do well, but they also really have the potential to crash and burn, especially in a group stage. I still remember that loss to Curse at IEM Katowice, and the team has been weaker since the departure of EdWard.
First and foremost, a lot of hope for the NA teams performing semi-decently. I may make fun of them, but it would sincerely be nice to see a good run by them. I can't help but want it this way.
I don't expect much from Gambit. Admittedly, I don't really like the team, and I really think they are a much weaker team without EDward. I know they are clutch during LANs. It's just that the way they barely eked into Worlds, and then there is the roster changes they are still adjusting to. It just doesn't look so great for them. They have proven me wrong before, and I'm sure it's a likely possibility, but not one I'm willing to admit here. It's going to be tough for them.
I can imagine Vulcun winning some matches just due to home crowd advantage/ other teams having to adjust to their new location.
Group A 1)SKT 8-0 2)OMG 6-2 (2 losses to SKT) 3)TSM 3-5 (2 losses to SKT, 2 losses to OMG, 1 loss to LD (loses on purple side)) 4)LD 3-5 (2 losses to SKT, 2 losses to OMG, 1 loss to TSM (loses on purple side)) 5)GG.EU 0-8
Group B 1)Ozone 8-0 2)Fnatic 4-4 (loses 2 to ozone, loses 1 to vulcun (loses on purple), loses 1 to gambit (loses on blue side) 3)Vulcun 4-4 (loses 2 to ozone, loses 1 to fnatic (loses on purple), loses 1 to gambit (loses on purple) 4)Gambit 4-4 (loses 2 to ozone, loses 1 to vulcun (loses on purple, loses 1 to fnatic (loses on blue). 5)Minesk 0-8
I think I did the math right? Vulcun to win 3 way tie.
So in TSM vs LD they both win on blue side :D? That's gonna be interesting.
I'm not taking into account corrections being made partway into each individual team series because I think the stress each team is under, and especially for the teams that get early losses, will probably correct for it, so this is basically a guess made on the consistency of each team as they've demonstrated it throughout the year.
I also think this is much more accurate for Group A; Group B will, imo, be incredibly difficult to predict because EU LCS teams tend to be so inconsistent, especially when they play each other.
GROUP A 1) SKT 8-0 2) OMG 6-2 3) Lemondogs 4-4 4) TSM 2-6 5) GamingGear.EU 0-8
I'd look for upsets, if there are any to be found, during Lemondogs/OMG Game 2 or GamingGear.EU over TSM. Unlikely upsets: anyone over SKT.
GROUP B 1) SGOzone 8-0 2) Fnatic 6-2 3) Gambit 4-4 4) Vulcun 2-6 5) Mineski 0-8
Likely upsets: any of them, really. With the exception of Mineski, about whom comparatively little is known, these teams are probably the most inconsistent of their various regions. Unlikely upsets: even with SGOzone being the most inconsistent of the two Korean teams in the groups stage, I still don't know that any of these other teams have a mechanical edge over SGO.

Yeah, that's right. I just picked Samsung to miss the bracket stage. Deal with it.
Just sayin.
You also predicted OMG would be worse than Lemondogs, which, in the context of how their games played out is utterly laughable and insulting.
Dude, chill the hell out. I posted it mostly because I was amused that I was the only person to correctly predict Ozone to miss brackets. I don't understand why you and everyone else jumped down my throat over the rest of the picks.

If you randomly make predictions of the scores and relative rankings of 10 teams, the expected number of correct picks is higher than what you put out lol

Look, if you're going to point out that you were the only one to correctly predict that SSO was going to miss brackets, I think it's fair that other people get to point out you were one of the only people to incorrectly predict that OMG was going to miss brackets too.
HI! Sorry guys. I needed real internet on my computer for this. I am taking screenshots of each page so that I can count up the scores and determine the winner. Sorry for the delay! Third world problems, etc.
I got everyone's guesses in a spreadsheet and just need to tabulate scores! school ends in a few weeks. after that I should be able to spend the day at the clinic and finish it up! I expect to be done beginning of December!
