Can anyone tell me some tips on how to draft a good comp? Thanks. Know which champs each of you are comfortablt with, and which synergy they have. FInd stuff that work for you (don't go fancy 1v2 lanes just because it's popular if your team can't handle them). Also scout the opposing team if you can, abuse the openings (enemy mid has 3 mains, come up with a comp where a direct lane counter to one of them work well, ban the other 2, and pick your mid after his, for example; or if you share a main champion with them and you have first pick, you can deny him without "wasting" a ban on him if you can use it in the comp you planned for that game, essentially having 4 bans against their team). A common thing to do when people ban "OPs", FotM or just popular champs and you're 2nd pick is to leave 3 open on purpose with your bans, using the fact that you ban last, so they can have one, but then you'll have 2.
There are a few basic comps, e.g:
-Kiting comp.
Champs like jayce, nidalee, kayle, nunu.
You pick strong laning phase champs and then group fairly early and start poking and pushing mid and make it hard to engage on you and just keep running back and cc when they commit
-Bruiser/assassin comp
Champs like akali, kat, khazix, xinzhao, jax, ryze, riven
You get champs with high mobility/sustained damage just jump in and rape them. You want a safe ad like ezrael who can stay safe or go in from the side and pick 4 champs with at least 1 strong engage like xin or leona support or something
-AoE comps
vlad, zyra, kennen, galio, mf, sona
You stack AoE and just aoe the fuck out of ppl, not quite so good because of mass warmogs but mf and sona still work
-2 line comps AKA protect the carry comps
You have a strong ap and ad as damage and pick really tanky guys like shen and mundo and shit, when they engage you use the tanks to split their team and try to clean up 1 by 1 (note this comp lacks poke and engage which is why shen is popular for the split push)
You can combine elements of these things together. You generally want one of three basic things
-stronger poke than the enemy team
-some kind of hard engage
-some kind of very good split pushing
You need to force fights somehow. If you have worse poke, but no engage, you can't really do anything. If they have a split push, you need either poke or engage. If you have no poke, no engage, you need a split pusher with TP who they can't match with their own.
You want to have a general comp in mind knowing what your players are good at. Then you want to make sure you don't open yourself up to counterpicks. Only a few top laners can't get counterpicks so you want to pick top late, and generally supports and junglers are a safe early pick, ad can be picked with support but it's slightly risky if it's not a solid lane. Mid lane it depends on the champs but another one you want to pick late.
I personally like stacking bruisers and going man mode. If I were drafting a comp my idea would be
-Malphite mid possibly with TP, decide when the comps are.
Malphite is great against both assassins and APs. You just get 2 dorans ring sorc boots and then sunfire/abyssal/tank items like warmogs or more spell pen in haunting guise. He also makes ppl think hes probably going top allowing you to troll people.
Amumu or xin zhao jungle. These fuckers are so strong and are also strong engages
Riven or Xin or Jax or Akali top. You want a strong snowbally top who can dive in and rape face off a strong engage.
Sona or lulu support. You already have strong engage so you pick really strong laners who can back up a bruiser comp well with their ults. Lulu also can slow from a target in the front and AOE knockup off a malphite ult. Sona cna flash ult on top of a malphite ult
Ez or MF ad carry. Both strong laners and can fire an ult across long range to follow an engage.
Now you have a bunch of really fucking strong lanes potential split push and great engage so you don't worry about poke at all.
If you want a poke comp you'd get like kayle/nidalee/lee sin/nunu/caitlyn or something.

Probably weights personal Elo as well as the team Elo, unless you guys are the exact same Elo it makes sense.
