The TL mods have asked me to compile all of ggChronicle's coverage into a single thread, so I'll be bumping this as the site gets updated in the future.

I created ggC to dig into the strategy and professional scene of League of Legends, since there is very little quality LoL content that relates to the league and tournament atmosphere. It's intended to foster analytic discussion between fans.

If you have any suggestions or comments, please let me know as I strive to make readers happy.

You'll be seeing a lot of us in the future, so be sure to check back frequently!

To kick this off, ggChronicle has posted an analysis of Epik Gamer's superb play as of late:

http://ggchronicle.com/epik-gamer-team-update/

I've been impressed with their versatility and calm demeanor, in particular.

Two things:

1) Please, please spellcheck and proofread!

For instance, DanDinh made a great call to kill RFLX’s Kennan (who had invaded their jungle at the time)

Couter Logic’s performance has been in free-fall these past few months and

These are just from the two articles I read. I think the site is slick and cool, but little mistakes like these put a damper on the professional feel.

2) Are you planning on bringing in more writers, and covering the EU scene?

EDIT: Overall though, the site looks promising. You should definitely find someone a little more experienced with WordPress though, as it's always worrying to be able to see www.ggchronicle.com/wp-admin redirect to the login page.

1) I do spell-check and proofread, but sometimes things fall through the cracks. I wrote over 7,000 words in addition to watching the games at MLG Providence and, unfortunately, I don't always catch the typos. I'll endeavor to look more carefully in the future, however.

2) I'd love to bring in additional talent, including writers to cover the EU and upcoming Asian scenes, but I'd really like to pay them. I've been getting a lot of positive feedback and there are big changes in the works at ggC, including a significant expansion in our coverage.

Winner of EG/DIG gets in, as does the winner of the CLG/TSM. Then its just whichever gets through the losers bracket. Both should be very even, but it depends on which EG shows up- the one that can crush everyone's face in or the one that gets a bit too weird and makes games way to hard for themselves.

and I’m sure the gaming house will be as ready as anyone come Saturday.

Consistency! Everything else uses ggC, you're using "anyone" to compare readiness to...a gaming house?

I think you need to split up these types of articles. News and Analysis should be separate - you're trying to do too much in one thing, and it's kind of silly. You could take out all the factual content, put it in a news post, and spend more time doing a detailed, rigorous analysis. Let me just point out one example:

Fresh from their inspiring victory at MLG Providence

The problem word in this phrase is "inspiring". In a news post, it's out of place. "Fresh from their victory at MLG Providence" provides the same information. In an analysis post, it needs context. Right now? It just sits awkwardly in the middle. If you want to generate discussion about it, you need to make a bold stand on the analysis side and stick by it.

If you're concerned about traffic monetization and whatnot, it also makes sense to split stuff like this into two articles. It's a pain to read through the post, actually, if I just want information and don't want to see the analysis.

Like almost all sports journalism, this post is an editorial. There's very little "real" journalism in the sports world for the simple fact that it is largely unnecessary. The events in question take place in a controlled environment with hundreds, thousands or millions of eyes watching every action from multiple perspectives and camera angles.

I've shied away from writing match summaries and giving results because these are services already provided, and done quite well, by Riot. What Riot can't do is offer editorials or critical analyses of their game, because they can't risk offending their professionals or causing a PR debacle. That's why I made ggChronicle, and I have every intention of continuing in this vein in the future.

I do, however, appreciate your point about splitting the factual information, by which I assume you mean things like the tournament format and bracket, from the editorial content and analysis, such as the team profiles and predictions. This is definitely a direction that ggC might take in the future, and I appreciate your input.

One thing that will help the spell checking process is to just add all the champion names and other league terms to your spell check dictionary - that way it actually CAN tell you how to correctly spell champion/ability names that you use (can just let this slowly build up over time, don't have to do it all at once, or you could copy-paste a list of champion / ability names and make your spell checker look at all of them.)

There's really no excuse for spelling mistakes in this day and age. F7 and 30 seconds of your attention. And this is assuming you haven't added Champion names into your word processing dictionary.

That's a good idea and I'll get on it. I know that there shouldn't be spelling issues, and I've been trying to vet the articles more carefully based on your feedback.

I don't think they'll be playing on the new jungle patch, otherwise what's the point of tournament patches?

the tournament site for some reason doesn't seem to list what version number it will be played on.

According to the NESL's official rules for this event, it will be played on the "US Client and Server," though it might still go down on the tournament realm. It's been difficult to know how this tournament will be set up because the rules are vague and probably incorrect. Literally the only thing we know is that it's double-elimination, which we can see from the bracket.

'I’m going to end with a bold call: I think some of the lesser American Starcraft pros are going to switch to League. "

That's a pretty bold call haha... I would think those SC2 pros like incontrol and machine are much to invested in SC and RTS's in general. Besides, there are no guarantees they will be able to make a splash in LoL, totally diffeerent genre... I gues Trixi did it once before.

It's interesting to read his thoughts on jungling, although I'm somewhat surprised by a few of his comments. I don't think his examples of what the new jungle adds are compelling. While tracking wards, pink warding bushes, and timing buff camps have more emphasis in the new jungle, an expert jungler should have been doing all of these things in the old jungle. Even killing the enemy jungler in their own jungle isn't particularly new or of greater effectiveness (though you no longer have to invest time stealing their camps afterward to guarantee they fall significantly behind on farm).

What the new jungle does add is a much higher opportunity cost to anything that isn't farming the jungle. That's why tracking wards is so much more important; running to a lane just to have the enemy back off because of a ward easily puts a jungler behind by as much gold as the ward cost.

I found the Trinity Force guys much more professional and fun than the other LoL podcasts, which is why I picked them up. I think that they have a great rapport together and were able to get some really good information from Atlanta.
