Qualifier #3 - Leveling the Battlefield
The second North American qualifier for the Spring Championship took place during the weekend, and two more teams secured their place at the North American Spring Championship in Los Angeles on February 27 for a chance to win part of the $100,000 prize pool.
The two teams that advanced from the second Qualifier where COGnitive Gaming and Tempo Storm. COGnitive Gaming’s new roster has been improving rapidly since their restructuring, and it showed this weekend when they passed through the qualifier without losing a single game.
Tempo Storm has also shown immense growth since completely rebuilding the team a few months ago. Though they were eliminated in the first round of the previous qualifier by Bob Ross Fan Club, Tempo Storm had a great showing this time around and secured their spot at the Regional Championship. Even though they weren’t as dominant as COGnitive Gaming, dropping one game against Team Blaze, Tempo Storm demonstrated that even after their big roster changes they are still a strong team eager for more victories.

In lieu of the recent balance changes, the scene has been shaken up quite a bit in terms of Hero selection and drafting. With the huge changes to Rehgar, he has become a staple Support and perhaps the most sought after Hero in the game currently. Resurgence, in particular, managed to scoop up victory after victory in the first few rounds with him. Lunara, Illidan, and even Cho'Gall were used to great success as well after some minor buffs in the last patch, and the viable Hero pool is looking more diverse than it has in several months. In spite of Greymane's excessive usage in EU, NA did not favor him much, perhaps because of the ban on his Level 1 talent Perfect Aim, which is currently bugged.

The third qualifier will be taking place tomorrow. There are still very strong teams that have yet to qualify, namely Panda Global and Team Blaze, while other up-and-coming teams are looking to make a name for themselves. Resurgence is a team that you should be looking for throughout the tournament, with strong showings in the last two qualifiers. All of these teams are very close to each other in terms of skill, so this should have the closest games of the three qualifiers yet.
The next qualifier will start off tomorrow, February 9th, at 02:00 GMT (+00:00) and continue in small chunks over several days. You'll be able to watch it through the official Heroes of the Storm Twitch Channel, and you can follow the tournament on Liquipedia and the official ESL site.
