G2 Parts Ways With Heroes

by EsportsJohn

Yesterday G2 released their Heroes of Storm roster as the organization parted ways with the game. Like North America’s Team CompLexity, the players in the roster had started to go separate ways and, as a result, G2 decided to disband the team and, for the present moment, close their Heroes of the Storm division.

As one of the most consistent teams over the past year, their disbandment comes as a bit of a shock. The Polish team first formed in March of last year, boasting some impressive results almost immediately. From that point, G2 had a remarkably stable roster with only one change when Baczek joined after adrd’s departure to Bob?. Otherwise team morale appeared to stay high and consistent throughout their time together. Unfortunately, they were never able to snag a premier win but still managed a first place prize in Heroes Major League EU Season 3. They also placed first in the WCA Open Qualifier as well as several Top 4 finishes, making them perhaps the most consistent European team in terms of results. But in the past two months, their results have faded quickly:

At first, the team was able to maintain its place at the top of the pile, but as the year went on, results continued to falter, and none of the changes that were made seemed to produce any effect.

Internal changes and strategies were used to combat the downward trend, but in the end, it appears that some roster changes were necessary, and the team agreed to part ways.

On the flip side of things, G2 disbanding means that a wealth of top notch players are now available in the European market. Jowe and Nicker have already released Twitter statements that they are actively looking for new teams, and Jowe even hinted at starting his own team in the near future. Leofromkorea, Baczek, and Szychu have not yet announced their plans, but if they choose to remain professional HotS players, they would make a fine addition to any European team.

This has been a very beautiful story of loyalty, respect, effort and understanding. The guys were with us during their peak, and we are immensely grateful for that. I wish them the best of luck in whatever they decide to do.

Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez Santiago, CEO of G2 Esports

This is chance to start over with a clean slate, best of luck to all of the former G2 members going forward with whatever they choose to do! You can find them on Twitter at @Baczekk8, @jowehots, @Leofromzambia, @NickerSq, and @SzychuHotS.

Team Complexity's reasons for leaving included a very politically correct way of saying they are bored of the game. It was stated twice in their article. They do not state luke-warm results as their reason for leaving. So I think your comment " Like North America’s Team CompLexity, G2 cited that a split in the roster and lukewarm results over the past year " at minimum requires further explanation and at most it is just plain off-base.

Here are Complexity's exact words:

"following the conclusion of the 2015 Heroes World Championship, individual players have lost motivation, and are now looking to pursue other endeavors."

"as the year drew to a close the team was lacking the drive that is necessary to produce championships."

it'll be interesting to see if the new $4 million USD prize pool thing makes any players or teams become un-bored.

Not being forced to play (against) the same heroes over and over again should fix the motivation problems.

I apologize if I paraphrased a bit. I'll see what I can do to rectify the situation, thank you.
