In addition to IdrA's return to the team, we're happy to welcome back Jake "LzGaMeR" Winstead, who was a long-time member of our StarCraft 2 team, and say hello to three newcomers: John "Chillatech" Peacock, Guillaume "Keylax" Ouellet, and Kayla "Faye" Murray. They'll all be representing Evil Geniuses at the BlizzCon Heroes of the Storm invitational, taking place in Anaheim in a few weeks. We're excited to support them at BlizzCon, and we're looking forward to seeing what they can do.

Read the rest here

I for one am super excited to see basically the entire roster of Snowflake at blizzcon.

Is it too late to congratulate IdrA on returning to the competitive gaming scene as a player?

Either way, congrats to all parties except SC2 :'(

Why is this showing up under SC2 news? Don't care if it's idra, he retired a long time ago.

Idra back on EG.
Idra playing MOBA/team games.
Idra saying he believes in Blizzard's game design, balance and philosophy.

In all seriousness, who I root for? I love LzGamer and Idra; but I also love Sheth T_________T

Because Idra used to be a big SC2 player and personality obviously.

My thoughts exactly. Always rooted for TL in the days of big rivalry between the 2...but for Hots I think Im going with EG.

Good luck and have fun, never played or watched any MOBAS but having blizzards heroes makes it look fun and I actually enjoyed reading Idra's interview the other day sooo....go go EG!

IdrA is probably the biggest reason I'm hyped for HotS. There's just so much history with the guy I can't stop being a little fanboyish. And LzGamer, it's impossible to not like that guy.

I don't know about the other 3 guys at all though - should I know them from any other game?

Really looking forward to see how this all plays out! Now all he needs to do is to stream on twitch again and everything is cool.

Makes sense for Idra be back on EG, now that the single issue has been resolved.

Skilled and well-known and supported by fans, there's nothing not to like about him, from the team and sponsors' point of view.

Don't think you can quit early in HotS, so it's the perfect (or worst) game for him.

It is a shame that EG would re-hire Idra after he treated the community so poorly. EG clearly lacks a sense of character and integrity.

EG is rehiring him BECAUSE he treated the community like shit. It's what made him popular.

So... I have always got the idea that IdrA never like these kind of "no-skill"-games. Does he actually enjoy this, or is it only(mostly) for the money?

I don't got that good of a knowledge of this game specifically, but I'm pretty sure IdrA really never liked these kind of games very much(or did he)? Maybe it depends on the team though... Let me rephrase, how much skill does it require? To say it in IdrAs own words.

People, lay off the hater-aid, Idra really likes this game and enjoys it. He likes team based games where all the pressure isn't on him and there is no asymmetrical balance.

I hope they have some pre-made production of idra's audio of him saying he believes in Blizzard's design and balance interlacted with the bullshit, cannons are better than my entire race, this is dumb, fucking dumb, trash and tire irons.

EG is a pretty good team, but it somehow has the weird side effect to transform all their players into mini Geoffs.

i was never a big fan of idra but do have respect for him. regardless it's still sad to see anyone that has the skillset already developed to be a high-level RTS player switch to a MOBA, which arguably takes less development because of the mechanics required....

IMO it takes years of RTS experience to even think of playing sc2 at even a semi-pro level at this point, whereas i think someone who is good at warcraft 3 or sc2 (or obviously other mobas) would be able to develop the tools and knowledge needed to be a top-tier professional within a year of playing.

then again what do i know. i only used to play team games in warcraft 3 with the guy that freaking invented DOTA, Eul =/

Extremely excited to see Greg return to EG. Regardless of what happened in the past, it's hard to see Idra on any other team.

Good luck to EG and Greg

Edit: Tunnel-visioned on Idra returning, and I completely overlooked Lz coming back, as well. Welcome back, Jacob!

Idra's comeback to esport(competitive) is nothing special to be honest, but EG? wow that is really suprising after all that drama but still, these are postive news for esport and especially for EG and idra! GL HF in future!

Best of luck to all of you! I feel like raging when I solo-queue and end up against you guys. And I'm really looking forward to HotS doing well just for the plain and simply explained reason: the game is lots of fun! Often times I wonder if people vehemently opposing this up-and-comer are even having fun with their own "favorite" game.

Well this is interesting. I missed Greg, and Lz for that matter, glad to see them coming back to EG, albeit playing a different game.

GL to both of them, I hope IdrA's feeling more cheerful than during his SC2 days.

Top lel that Idra video. It's like a different person...

I'm expecting this game to be dead on arrival though. Doubt there is much space for it with both LoL and Dota2 being super popular.

Still not buying into the hype trying to be created around this game. It should have stayed as a map to promote the SC2 Arcade.

seeing how Heroes is a 5 vs. 5 game I think it's smarter business decision for Blizz to pump more $ in promoting and developing it as opposed to a 1 vs. 1 game

Idra seems so much happier. I really like seeing him still as a competitive player - I hope hots works out for him

Well, it was either gonna be EG or no team for idrA I think, given that the other teams had already announced their lineups?

Im telling you i know like 20 guys with that idea, they all blow. Don't know of RTS pro's either that made it into Mobas pro scene.

Select played for QPad. Was fairly average, though.

Then there's BabyKnight, who started in Dota 1, went to SC2, and is back to Dota 2.

DotA2 viewership numbers aren't that drastic.

And whatever cut they take from winnings is a tiny percentage of what an organization needs to keep running.

I like IdrA and I like Heroes of the Storm but combining both of them doesn't make me very excited for some reason. Perhaps if it's not SC2 related for EG, I just can't bring myself to care for some reason. Shame IdrA is staying with Heroes although it is a fun game but MOBA esports is so boring for me

Its just more eyeballs on his sponsors and likely something low cost and fun. I don't think these guys are going to be flying all over the world. Just some small online events and Blizzcon.

Gonna be honest, I never liked IdrA. Even more, I actually disliked him. All for the reasons that are obvious and even mentioned in this video.

However, knowing that bitterness and hatefulness usually nag much more on the sender than they do on their recipients, I do hope for IdrA that he is working / has worked things out, and will have a lot of fun in Heroes. Looking forward to checking him out.

Also, for an SC2 fan who is interested in Heroes, it's cool to see a familiar name.

Starcraft 2 doesn't have a microtransaction system built into it, so I don't think Heroes of the Storm would have worked as a custom map, in the business sense.

Plus, there's a much better opportunity for promotion to present it as a standalone game, rather than a custom map that you have to download SC2 in order to play.

QFT:

Man, the rumors of Idra mellowing out really were true. He really does sound happy and not that somethings just gnawing at him in the back of his mind like he did whenever he did an SC2 interview.

I think it's pretty amusing that he likes the design philosophy / balance aspects of Heroes so much when it's being lead by Dustin Browder and we all know what he thought of SC2 lol.

But hey, I'm happy that he's found something he likes and so far I think Heroes looks pretty cool and I've even started getting into watching some of the tournament / league games.

Lol, can't believe people are still so salty over that one post.

But making one bad-taste joke is definitely deserving of a lifetime ban from an organization, clearly deserves worse punishment than stream cheaters, map hackers, and all the match-fixing that just happened in DotA 2.

or in starcraft or in counterstrike or in quake or in league or in hearthstone or in any other game on the world? for example important games like football? its not about idra being a cunt , sorry a personality, its about Alex / EG acting like a white knight and than don't give a fuck if its about money. that makes him, his organisations (lets see how far he can make it with his plan to control more and more teams in esport) hypocrite. We dont need to list now all do we?

Soon hire some nazis because they can win LCS NA? Yes? Ofc he will.

Anyway for me thats a huge joke and well gl Alex in getting control over more and more teams that are "fan favoured" and controlling esport. I just hope Team Secret refuses his offer. And yes I know esport forgets fast.

The post wasn't even that unacceptable. It was probably just the straw that broke the camel's back after a lot of bad attitude and general unwillingness to improve.

Part of the reason Idra's release was so shocking is that it seemed completely disproportionate to what was said, and it if it had been done in a vacuum, and he was still a serious competitor, I doubt he would've been sacked for it.

He is, you can play a game semi professionally and go to college, especially when the competition is still small and tournaments are mostly offline and you don't have to travel.

well in dota2 they already had a player that did racist statments without being a full nazi. so the next logical step is to go all in. and as if EG would care. if they shut up and win Alex would hire them instantly.

well anyway. it will be a fun time and maybe maybe idra is good enough for the most casual dota clone. so glhf.

We need 3 more Protoss heroes in HoTS so we can see IdrA get protossed as well
Bonus if we get a sentry hero that makes IdrA rage quit due to hallucinations.

He was released beause of the accumulation of toxic behaviour, not that one instance. The Idra in that video looks almost like a new person, and I think we can attribute a good portion of his aggressive behaviour during the Sc2 to the fact that he never liked the game.

If he's mellowed out a bit and genuinely likes HotS, he's still a big name and a solid draw. This makes perfect sense for EG, they can get one of their marque players back without having him associated with their Sc2 division, it's like a win-win for them.

What? Selling... out? Because he's on the same team he was on before and said the same thing he's said for ages?

Also the first thing IdrA did when he quit SC2 was to start DotA2, so I'd say he does enjoy these kind of games.

Apparently, being happy with a game and genuinely enjoying playing it is synonymous with selling out.

I wasnt a fan of IdrA at all in bw/sc2, but his attitude in this video is spot on. I hope he sticks with his promise to be mannered and hope he learned something from his crybaby career in sc.

Now I really wish I had a Heroes invite, its hard to understand a tournament without playing the game.. but it looks interesting.

To people saying this video was PR move, have you ever actually seen any previous interview with Idra?

In the JP interview, he actually acknowledged that EG did a good move in firing him, and has always admitted that he was kinda a douchebag in Sc2. This actually seemed like a very typical Idra interview.

The only PR move that I saw here was EG claiming that Idra seemed more calm, and thus indicating that he had matured.

Idra should apologize for playing that game.

well they kind of need to show that he learned from his mistakes to have an argument for getting him back. I just realized I will be rooting for EG and Idra. That will feel weird, but yay Faye.

So they could now do a PR for Heroes, typical Moba turns you into a raging bunny, Heroes turns everyone into a team player. Parents all over the world would only allow their children to play Heroes haha. Sorry had to get that out of my mind...

I really don't understand how people like Idra keep having fans. Dude is childish and has a toxic attitude, I don't understand EG providing him a platform to prove it all over again.

What? Selling...

Idra has spent his entire SC2 career doing nothing but slating the SC2 team (who funnily enough are now the Heroes team) but yet now that he needs to gain from it and push the game into a competitive direction he's all "i love the team and the game". It's just amusing is all

Well people can change their opinion based on new observations, it's perfectly normal and happens all day, don't know how it should be different for IdrA.

Amusing, yes, but that hardly justifies calling him a sellout. PR is all part of eSports, everywhere...

From my perspective, the development has made many of the same "errors" as in Sc2. From a competitive play the issue I have with sc2 is that micro in many situations isn't really rewarded. Roach vs Roach = a-move. Protoss deathball = Almost a-move. It's not that the players are bad, but just that the unit-design is so bad that micro isn't rewarded. The only instance where "real" micro is rewarded is Marines vs Banelings, which Dustin Browder later has admitted wasn't an interaction that was intended, but just came out of pure luck.

But if you only rely on "luck" to create interaction, then most of the interactions are gonna be pretty bad. Riot is completley unlike that, it's very easy to see that they spend a lot of time tweaking the stats of all the champions in order to make sure that "micro"/mechanics are rewarded. This is why you can go to the reddit frontpage on a daily basis and watch sick plays by high level players.

For Heroes of the Storm, you will never be able to see "plays" as the development team hasn't spend time tweaking the stats in order to get the best types of interactions. Instead, it's clear that the majority of their focus is on map design and adding lore-based champions.

I don't believe it's intended design that the skill-cap of champions is so low, because you can still have a very low learning barrier while having "difficult to master" champions.

A possible factor here could be that HotS and Sc2 are completely different games with almost nothing in common other than the IP. It's like saying someone is a sellout for liking Warcraft 3 but not WoW.

Soooo EG released Idra originally for acting like a dick. It wasn't SC2 related, he was just acting like a dick. But now that he's moved on to another eSport he is back on the roster? I dunno.

I don't really mind I just think it is kinda wishy washy from the EG management. Do you not want him representing you and your team like you said when you cut him abruptly?

Oh well congrats to all of them and best of luck! I imagine we won't have similar Idra behavior these days.

I've actually watched some of his streams where he scrims. I don't think I've actually heard him rage, which is...a bit weird.

I'm sure his opponents would get an eyeful if there was actually all chat, though.

People need to realize that EG actually liked IdrA and they didn't want to fire him. It only was because of the sponsor, because as they've said many times, IdrA is "part of the family" and you inmediately asociate IdrA with EG.

So now that IdrA started playing heroes, formed a very good team which is one of the best right now, and Blizzard invited EG to a showmatch in Blizzcon, and IdrA appear much more calmer, it weas obvious they were going to look for him.

Probably they told the sponsors the same thing they are saying righ now to us: "he is much calmer, he likes the game and didn't like sc2" which all of that appears to be true, so they probably said "lets try going to BlizzCon and see how it goes, if it goes good maybe we will have a permanennt heroes team, if it goes bad/no one watch its/IdrA rages, we won't have a heroes team/won't have IdrA in it".

So i would wait to see how it goes after Blizzcon.

They probably never wanted to let go of such a valuable asset. They just needed (a lot of) right conditions:

[ X ] Long period of separation
[ X ] Idra's continued popularity (core fans and other viewers that follow him)
[ X ] New partnership opportunity (rise of Heroes of the Storm + Idra's rise as a top beta player)
[ X ] Idra+ (toned down just enough to meet EG and sponsors' threshold)

I was lucky enough to play a game with him and some mutual friends. When he's with friends and even a newbie like me; he was and always will be a pretty likable guy and pretty much a straight arrow. I would ask some pretty basic things about the game and they (him and his friends) would explain it and even walk me through how to level my hero properly, etc.

It helps that there's no all chat, but the game is also much different in terms of atmosphere and approach.

I don't get why EG keeps paying this guy money, I guess the kids who love his douche bag attitude in SC2 are the ones who buy the tshirts.

Because he is going to bring in tens of thousands of viewers who don't give a damn about HOTS but want to see their favorite personality on stream again.

You don't realize that you're just fueling his value as much as the other guys right? You're creating discussion, discussion equals exposure, exposure equals money.

Bitch and moan all you want, IdrA is a personality that brings in money in one way or another. It's not about T-Shirts, being someone people talk about is incredibly valuable. Some people base entire careers on top of that, and IdrA has the skill to certainly mix it up a bit.

yup, Idra's popularity alone is more than enough to justify his existence on EG. Glad to have him back.

Even in the more rage-induced rants, you never get a feeling that Idra wasn't a nice guy who was just caught up in the moment of competition.

You were a lurking/ active member on TL for years, yet didn't follow the BW foreign scene or SC2 at all? I guess that's possible, but I would still think that you would have heard about IdrA's popularity and controversial nature through the grapevine.

I have strongly mixed feelings. On 1 hand IdrA was exciting player to have, on the other he was "banished" not without a reason. On one hand I feel like HotS might be good fit for him, on the other EG is the last place I'd like him to see after he was justly kicked out. And finally while IdrA is a benefit for the scene (from spectators point of view), I feel like IdrA would be better of as full time student - hope he will continue studies at least partially.

You were a lurking/ active member on TL for years, yet didn't follow the BW foreign scene or SC2 at all? I guess that's possible, but I would still think that you would have heard about IdrA's popularity and controversial nature through the grapevine.

It's about EG, not Idra. Not like he was on the team when competing in TSL anyway.

Really? Not IdrA? lol. The OP is an interview of IdrA talking about his professional e-sports career and how the next step in his journey is Heroes. And sure, there is a small description outlining EG's whole team, but make no mistake that the most popular player- and the e-sports personality who a ton of people have been wondering about- is IdrA. I mean, heck, look at the thread's responses and how many of them are focused around IdrA. And then especially with the old SC2 rivalry and eventual temporary Korean partnership of EG and TL, this is certainly relevant community news.

Welp, then I guess the "community" shifted away from me since I neither know or care about that.

Also, didn't see the youtube video at first because I usually block such things on forums.

I don´t give a shit about the haters, it´s glad to see him back. SC2 wasn´t the same for me without him, so this is better than "no greg" ...but i´m surprised and a little curious, why he really got back to EG...

....but neveretheless: awesome news!

Ah yes, so it must be "the community" - what is that by the way? Not only is the teamliquid community pretty big, it also involes many sub-communities. Many of the BW forum users never even touch the SC2 forums and vice versa.

Just acknowledge that there are people on this site that care about this and move on.

Just acknowledge that there are people on this site that care about this and move on.

That's why there are BW news and SC2 news, separate entities. Community news are ones which affect all and everyone.

"TL Store Razer Affiliate Partnership" <-- affects the community/site as a whole, neutral

"Heroes of the Storm Tournament at Blizzcon!" and "EG announces their Heroes of the Storm Team" <-- definitely not the case here

For your information, I'm only here for BW and Melee (also used to look at DotA 2 sometimes when it was still here), so that last sentence is really unnecessary, especially considering I indicated that in my posts before.

Thats why I asked for a seperate section, though. I always saw Community News as more of a "dummy" category since technically no news affects all of the community.

And sorry if I was a little harsh, but honestly the way you said it made it sound like you were trying to raise high horse above all of TL because you dislike heroes. So my bad for overreacting a bit.

Yep, I would want that as well, if it's necessary (enough coverage, enough interest etc). Has there been a statement so far? Because posting news like this but not having a separate section isn't a good middle ground, in my opinion.

No harm done. I didn't post a proper explanation right off the bat anyway, plus, I did reply with some sarcasm on posts which didn't exactly answer my initial question.
