Two weeks ago, I received a beta key for Hearthstone. Just this weekend, one of my friends got his beta key. We had a deal that we would duel as soon as he had a deck he was happy with, seemed ok to me. Unfortunately, the first deck he built seems to be incredibly strong. He is yet to lose with it from about 10 games in play mode, he defeated all of my previous decks... I built the deck myself to try it out - currently am sitting at 12-0 win-loss from unranked.
Foolishly, I told him that I'll be able to find a way to beat this deck by this weekend, thus far with no success. I come to you then, TL, to see if you can help me solve the problem.
Here is the deck list: (Priest) (x2 for each) - Holy Smite - Power Word: Shield - Northshire Cleric - Shadow Word: Pain - Amani Berserker - Novice Engineer - Shadow Word: Death - Ironfur Grizzly - Shattered Sun Cleric - Gnomish Inventor - Ogre Magi - Sen'jin Shieldmasta - Holy Nova - Darkscale Healer - Mind Control
The deck seems to be capable of getting huge board control early on, ridiculous card draw from the Clerics and then very solid clearance from the Power/Shadow Word cards and the use of clerics Battlecry to clear out anything I might try to use with 4 attack.
My current thought is getting a deck based around Archmage with a deck full of clearance spells/silences etc...
Any assistance or discussion based around this type of deck would be appreciated!

Hm, that's just a basic priest deck, he probably copied it here from TL or another community site. It's not that great, but very solid in the lower to mid levels I believe. Try an aggro deck to keep him from getting board control. You can play around SW: P and D by using lots of efficient 4 attack cards like chillwind yeti, argent commander or injured blademaster. Try to force him to make bad/inefficient trades with mind control and the words. Keep in mind that cards like dark iron dwarf and the cleric can alter combat stats so for example you could make a 2/x a 4/x or a 3/3 a 4/4.
The latest Trends in Hearthstone elaborates on this in more detail..

I'll see what I can do based on that, thanks!

What hero do you want to play as?

Play a lot of 3/2 2 drops. Make sure all your 3 drops have 3 attack and more than 2 hp, nothing like Razorfen Hunter or Tauren Warrior, etc
That will give you a brilliant and excellent early game against a priest that is running very weak Clerics and Novice Engineers that can't trade with them at all.
Anything with 4 attack (Yeti, Dark Iron Dwarf, Injurered Blademaster, SPELL BREAKER(!), etc) are absolutely excellent at avoiding all forms of Priest removal. They have an extremely hard time getting around these types of minions.
Don't drop a big fatty past turn 8 unless you have a way to deal with him if he gets MCed. Usuaully that means you need board advantage first.
Just run aggro and you should be fine to be honest. If he drops a turn 1 cleric, just don't play anything without 3 attack or wait for direct removal. He isn't running an aggro deck, you can afford to let that cleric beat on you for 1 or 2 damage until you have a way to safely remove it. Letting it draw unlimited cards is not the solution.
