What audio device are you using for your input in FMLE?

Are you using the audio repeater program at all?

Yea, I'm using Audio Repeater.

I put the System Sound settings as you said, with output = my speakers, input = mic.

The audio repeater has output = line 1, input = microsoft sound mapper.

The Adobe Flash Encoder has audio device = line 1.

If you just want the speaker sound to be the output then you don't need audio repeater at all. Does you computer have the stereo mix enabled? If it does, all you have to put is stereo mix as your audio for FMLE.

If you want microphone audio and stereo mix combined, then you have to use the audio repeater twice. In one of the repeaters, you would have the input as your stereo mix. In the other repeater you would have the input as your microphone, and for both of them, you would have the output as line 1. Then you would put the FMLE audio as line one. That way line 1 is audio combined from the mic and your speakers.

You don't want to put the audio for FMLE as speakers, it has to be stereo mix. If stereo mix doesn't show you might have it disabled under the control panel or your sound system might not support it.

Your right, I don't have Stereo mix. All I see are USB Audio Device, SoundMAX HD Audio, and Virtual Cable 1.

But still, it should work right? My Stereo mix is not an option, but shouldn't plugging Audio Repeater's input = speakers, output = Line 1 work?

Somehow if you set input as line 1 and output as speakers, then start the repeater, and then set both playback and recording to line 1 in sound properties it'll work. Have to do it in this order though.

guys I found a real gem for those using Lenovo laptops.

Apparently, Lenovo crippled SoundMAX sound cards and disabled the Stereo mix option. Browsing through a forum, I found that someone had found a work-around.

generalsu wrote:
You see this line:

HKR,AD1984\\Disable, OutR, 1, 01 ;; Disable Stereo Mix Capture Node

That line specifically disables the stereo mix option. To enable it, just do this:

HKR,AD1984\\Disable, OutR, 1, 00 ;; Disable Stereo Mix Capture Node

So now the stereo mix option shows up on the recording controls, but guess what? You still cannot record from stereo mix. Like I said before, it is sealed by SoundMAX for good. Now, whether this is a hardware or software restriction, I have no idea. My 2 cents say it's hardware.

There's a software workaround for this using Virtual Audio Cable. it installs a virtual audio device so that you can record what you hear just like stereo mix. The only problem with that is, it's way more complicated and more expensive. If you don't know VAC, just google it.

I finally got my WinXP T61's onboard SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio sound card to capture and record both video and audio from my external ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0 TV tuner (which is all I really wanted to accomplish via this thread). Up until now it would only capture video but not audio.

ATI tech support clued me into the fact that their tuner and capture software will not load properly if no recordable "Line In" input slider is detected by the installer (Note that "Line In" is also referred to as "Stereo Mix" here in this thread).

Taking generalsu's tweak a few steps further did the trick for me in WinXP:

Step 1.

Download the SoundMAX driver from Lenovo's site and note where it expands to (if you have not done this already) .... It should expand to C:/Drivers/Win/Audio/

Step 2.

Tweak the ADIHDAUD.INF file that was just downloaded in accordance with generalsu's instructions. Should be found in C:/Drivers/Win/Audio/SMAXWDM/W2K_XP/

Step 3.

Uninstall the current SoundMAX driver from Control Panel and reboot ..... when WinXP tries to reinstall it simply hit Cancel.

Step 4.

Go to the newly downloaded SoundMAX driver folder and double check your tweaked file ADIHDAUD.INF which should still be found within C:/Drivers/Win/Audio/SMAXWDM/W2K_XP/

Step 5.

Go back up to C:/Drivers/Win/Audio and double click "setup.exe" to reinstall the SoundMAX driver. Ignore the nag screen about the driver not being certified. Reboot after installation.

Step 6.

Go into your registry "with great caution" and do an Edit>Find for AD1984 .... once this Key is found open the DISABLE subkey under AD1984 and ensure that BOTH MicBP and OutR have Reg_Binary values of 00 each .... I found that this was not the case for me and so the audio capture would not work until I made sure they were both set to 00 and then rebooted. Note: You only have to do this on the "first" AD1984/DISABLE key found .... the other 4 AD1984/DISABLE key values under the other CurrentControlSet Keys will reset properly on the next reboot.

Step 7.

After reboot, double click your sound icon from your tray and open the Master Volume Panel .... choose Options>Properties>Recording>OK and select "Stereo Mix."

Note however this workaround will NOT get you a "Wave Out Mix" recording slider as found on my T42 (with an older uncrippled SoundMAX). It is "Wave Out Mix" that I have to select on my T42 to capture and record audio sources beyond just "Microphone" (and only legal non-copyrighted audio sources in my case, of course). With "Line In" on my T42 I get nothing just like my T61 using "Stereo Mix."

For the newest ThinkPads you'll probably need an external USB or express/54 slot soundcard with recording capabilities; or maybe try using that somewhat complicated and cumbersome Virtual Audio Capture software. My understanding is that the Cardbus PCMCIA slot controller used on the X and T 61 series units is not compatible with the Creative Audigy 2ZS Notebook sound card .... however, the newer Creative X-fi Notebook Express Slot sound card may be compatible, but it requires an express/54 slot which a lot of T61s do not have .... I fortunately have an Express/54 slot on my T61 and I still may buy it to provide true 5.1 output sound .... Hopefully it will also allow me to fully record all legal non-copyrighted audio sources again like my trusty T42. After all this, I decided to keep the T42 as a spare, and extended it's factory warranty another 2 years here just before it's original 3 year warranty expired recently .... older is better in some cases these days .... like my old but fully restored '65 Vette Roadster .... it gets lots more attention than my '04 M3 Coupe or supercharged '05 SL55.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight

That explains it. The stereo mix is the device that actually sends audio to your speakers, so that is the input device. Your speakers are just output devices. If you haven't already, try going into your control

If you don't have one of those notepad thingies, go to control panel > sound(I'm using vista so this might be a little different on XP). there should be a tab for output and input devices. If you right click on a device you should be able to check off 'Show disabled devices' or 'Show disconnected devices' or something. For XP it will probably be different but you need to go to sound in the control panel to enable the stereo mix. After you enable it, it will appear as an option for audio in FMLE. You can probably find exact directions and other ways to do it with google and Youtube(theres videos showing how to do this).

I found a way to feed sound directly into FMLE without the stereo option.

I'm using Windows XP SP 3.

1. Go to System Settings, Sound and Audio Devices.
2. Set Sound Playback device: Default device = Virtual Cable 1
3. Set Voice Playback device: Default device = Virtual Cable 1
4. Open Audio Repeater. Wave in = Virtual Cable 1, Wave out = Your Soundcard audio (not Sound Mapper). This is only done so that you can hear your own computer. Steps 1, 2, 3 are enough to record from your computer. Also, you MUST set "Channel config" to "Surround" or higher. Otherwise, you'll hear flitter-flatter jitters.
5. In FMLE, set Audio Device = Virtual Cable 1.

Finally, if you want to have WinAMP, go to WinAMP Preferences, Plug-ins, Output, DirectSound Output. Click Configure, and choose Virtual Cable for Device.

If you want to record your voice as well as computer sounds, open another instance of Audio Repeater, wave in = your recording device, wave out = Virtual cable 1.

EDIT: Except, now I have a problem. I can't hear my computer because if I make Audio Repeater direct Virtual Cable 1 into Soundcard, FMLE records itself!

Virtual Cable 1 outputs sound, which gets emitted through Audio Repeater, which gets picked up by FMLE, which records it, etc. etc. o_O...

So I can now record computer sounds, computer sounds + voice, but can't hear them :{

Stryker, instead of putting the output the Audio Repeater as the soundcard audio, put it simply as your speakers. This way it doesn't re-record over them because sound cannot be recorded them the speakers. The sound is recorded from the soundcard/stereo mix which sends the sound to the speakers.

If that works out for you I'll add yours as an alternative method to the OP.

Wad do I do?

Yeah when you go to install the program it tells you it is from an unidentified publisher. Windows 7 asks you if you want to install it anyway, but I guess Vista can be a bitch. Before you try install try right clicking > properties and try to edit the publisher there so it doesn't ask you. If that doesn't work it might just be a crappy version or something your using?

I just used the first result in that new link and it worked perfect. Only took a full minutes to DL, plenty of seeds, and it's the full version.

I had this problem myself and just found the solution to it. This only applies to Vista 64bit users. Everyone else can chose to install the drivers even though it's not signed. What you have to do is to reboot in test mode as admin and install the program there. This is how you do it:

* Ensure that you are the administrator. You either need to be logged unto the accound that is made admin automatically by Vista or if you have disabled UAC (like I have) you should be listed as the administrator. Having made your own account that has administrator privileges doesn't suffice, it needs to be the real admin account.

* Open the command prompt by holding the windows button + R and typing "cmd", this should get you into the command prompt. Type " bcdedit /set testsigning on " and press enter. You should get a message saying "Command Issued" or something similar ( got swedish language on so don't know the exact one sorry ). This will make you go into "Test mode" the next time you boot.

*Reboot and install Virtual Audio Cable. Ensure that you've uninstalled it if you allready tried before. I'm guessing you just issue the command " /set testsigning off " after you've installed and reboot normally.

I just tried this and it did indeed install fine after I did that. I'm hoping this will make it possible to add Stereo Mix unto this fucking retardo platform that is Vista 64. Updating with progress later on.

*Edit: Ok I got it to work with just incoming sounds now. Which is what I want. Some where along the installation of these things I accidently shut off autostart on my realtek drivers so that's why the Stereo Mix didn't show up even after the advice here in this thread. I reinstalled the latest ones from Asus webpage now and I'm good to go.

Thanks for this thread Grobyc. Gonna bookmark it for the future if I get a better microphone.

I'd like to set it up so my SC/Vent audio are played through my stream but NOT my mic 100% of the time. People ask me for audio all the time, but I leave it off because there's too much background noise in my house most of the time. Has anyone tried/done this?

So you want them to hear what you hear from your speakers, and not your voice from the mic? Your audio input for FMLE should be the stereo mix from your sound system, and not the mic or speakers. Yes, you use stereo mix, and not the speakers. You might have to enable/show the stereo mix driver because most often they are disabled/hidden by default. There's a little section on the bottom of the OP regarding that. Unless you're asking for something else? I'm trying to help the best I can, but I'm a little high so forgive me if I read it wrong.

Stereo mix records all sounds going through your audio card. If you're still hearing sounds from your mic, then turn off any input from your mic (don't turn the mic off, turn off sounds coming from the mic). This can be done from the volume control panel.

For anyone having the driver signature problem upon installation, this quick method worked for me. Restart your comp and press f8. Then choose the option to disable driver signature enforcement and the install should work.

Whenever I record sound with my volume turned up I get a lot of static. This happens with every video recording program I've tried. This didn't used to happen. Do you know how to fix this?
