I don't laugh, I'm sincerely frightened. The problem with the media is that people have given it the responsibility to pass judgments ("who is influential," "who should be held accountable") and they of course have taken it and run with it to the point where there is no news in the news media worldwide. It's all a bunch of lens-filtered shit, the lens used linked to the ethical (read: financial) agendas of the station presenting it. News media should present unfiltered facts and then we as man, the animal that thinks, can use our cognitive abilities to pass rational judgment on it. This is certainly not to say there is no place for opinion in television, press, etc., but the sad fact is that worldwide ill-founded opinion is spoon-fed to people such as our friend here under the guise of "news," and over time people have sacrificed their ability to think critically and now look to that same news media for an opinion they can latch onto. That people are afraid to formulate their own opinions is obvious by the meteoric rise in op-ed shows on so-called "news" networks. As our world shifts to concretes and away from principles we slowly lose our ability to abstract and to reason, two traits which used to be extremely highly valued but are now under ferocious assault by stifling pragmatism that pervades every Western culture (and I suspect every culture worldwide). By subscribing (and indeed, preferring) sensationalist media over factual, we have allowed this to happen. Think for yourself. TL;DR: "If you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything." | ||
