Farewell page on Filefront
Really, really sucks. I love using filefront. It was easily the best site for downloading game files/videos. Easy-to-use interface, search features, and high download speeds.

edit: UPDATE FileFront lives on!

I love UT2K4 still though. My favorite multi-player FPS game of all time. The matches are so intense with the amount of dodging and aiming while moving around that goes on! Man... I haven't watched some of the high-level play in that game in a long time...

Gonna miss filefront though, so much more legit and convenient than rapidshare for downloaders.

Moodle actually works better than Blackboard for me... but then again, we don't use it for much besides forums and posting files.

I just don't get it why your university isn't using it's own servers for such things... My university isn't the biggest around and every faculty has it's own server + it's distributing bandwidth over the whole city for some companies and stuff... Wouldn't storing .pdf files and other material on your own machine be better/cheaper for the university?

A little bit more now that the Titan Pack is out and Steam did the free weekends. But in general, no. I don't either. I just like to look at original maps and see what people have created. I play UT99 a lot, but not really UT3 ![]()

Anyways, they probably think its more safe to store it on a commercial server since they usually have those backed up. Just wondering, do they store student records on there? That does not seem responsible at all.

You can't announce something ahead of time for april fools. In my opinion, that's against the rules. Either that or you're just a liar.

That does not seem responsible at all. Memory capacity? I don't believe that should be a problem. Every single student here can have his own account on the server and they're assigned at least 50MB quota on this accounts (I have 100MB but that's because one of the deans - who is also the server administrator for the server assigned to my faculty is a good old friend of mine and I really needed this increase). If you have a server nowadays, you usually get quite enough capacity and giving away at least 100GB/faculty just for stuff that can be shared with students (like a folder where every teacher can upload stuff or something) is no big deal. Also a nice idea is what I have at my studies - each year creates it's own gmail account where teachers send files, exam results, notifications etc. and each student has login/password (it can cause some problems, if for example someone has set their mail client to not leave a copy of the mail on the server, but usually it's not hard to solve those).

FileFront lives on. Not an april fool's joke. Apparently the company that owned it sold it back to the original owners, and coincidentally the deal was closed today (April 1st). Huzzah!
