I was always curious if anyone else loved "video game" music as much as I do. Post some of your favorite video game music to share with other TLers.
Oddly enough, one of my most favorite songs what Dhalsim off Marvel vs Capcom, I'd learn the Dhalsim character and purposely kill off my other guy toward the end of the fight just so I could hear this song lol...
I absolutely love videogame music. The nostalgia it brings about is just intense. My favourites: On the Sega Master System (best console EVER) - Sagaia (aka Darius 2 in Japan) (all levels just fantastic music. can't find it anywhere though ) - Quartet (particularly level 2, 4 5 and 6) - Wonder Boy III - The Dragon's Trap - Lucky Dime Caper - Master of Darkness
On the PS2 - Final Fantasy X - Final Fantasy X-2 - Metal Gear Solid Theme (all variations are good)
The only problem with liking video game music so much, is that the appeal is nostalgia, so other people probably won't like it unless they've played the game...
Also, I don't really like the StarCraft music at all. Does that make me a bad person? I hope not

no , the only thing warcraft 2 had over starcraft was it's superior music and redbook audio (the ability to play the game cd in your stereo for the music tracks)
starcraft music is decent but it's only 3 tracks per race so you get bored of it pretty quickly
i get chills @ the whole thing... an epic rendition of the chrono trigger/chrono cross series that has long been missing. I went to this concert in Baltimore, and it was awesome except they DIDNT PLAY FINAL FANTASY! %^&%@$!#%^&!%!!!!!! Is there anyone else who thinks that is as sick as I do?
Btw, anyone who hasn't checked out the chrono symphonic album at the ocremix.org should definitely - there's some good stuff in there.
Eah videogame music usually sounds really lame to me when it's rearranged with added depth. The new versions just don't work in my mind the way the originals did. (@ chrono symphony video)
the zelda theme is so great, in fact i like most of the nintendo core game tunes. sometimes it's hard to say "i really like the music" because you wouldn't listen to it while not playing the actual game, but it does so much to support the atmosphere. as is the case for me with starcraft and lots of other titles.
only one game has music that i keep listening to while not playing. it's "we love katamari" and the soundtrack is so fubar, i love it.
more variation here:
btw if you like music à la daft punk or justice here are some free electro remixes of zelda, mario and sonic tunes: http://theremixcompany.co.uk/?p=85
Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night had the best tracks ever. i haven't listened to everything else but i have trouble imagining any other soundtrack being better. The music is probably half of why I love the game so much.
Contra (the first one) and Megaman 2 had some great tracks, too.
Note that there are many different versions of the Outrun tunes out there. Sidology part 2 - Trinity
Incomplete table of contents:
00:00 Supremacy 04:00 R-Type 05:51 Skate or Die 06:15 ? 06:42 Super Mario Bros 06:44 ? 06:48 Legend of Zelda 06:49 ? 07:10 Last Ninja 2 (/Ocean Loader?) 07:59 Meteroid Prime 08:16 International Karate 10:21 Turrican 1 (/Loader?) 12:10 Meteroid Prime
Robert lists the songs in this forum post. Sidology part 3 - Apex Ultima
Great choices so far, brings back a lot of memories. I'm definitely ripping that chrono trigger rendition onto my mp3 player (But I wish there were a higher quality version D: )Here's one of my favourites:
Haha there's totally been like 5 of this thread throughout the history of TL.
Anyway, I *loved* the soundtrack from warcraft 2. Total Annihilation also had some amazing orchestral music that somehow really fit robots blowing each other up.
The original C&C game had great music. I <3 Frank Klepacki, and his best work for westwood imho was the first C&C. Awesome music.
if Blizzard could use it for SC2 it would be really cool
And i think they are many others good songs that i dont know or i have forgotten them I dont want to brag but i think that now this thread is better ^^ JRPGs are overated imo -.-.
Planescape: Torment Deionarra's Theme ( many other great songs in this game )
Unreal 1: Gateway to Skycity
Not really games ( just some kickass oldschool benchmarks ) 3Dmark99 and 2000:
