Games Done Quick is a series of charity video game marathons. These events feature high-level play by speedrunners raising money for charity. Games Done Quick has teamed up with several charities throughout its history, such as Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Millions of dollars have been raised and donated, thanks to the GDQ speedrunning marathons, and many prizes have been awarded to those who donate!
Here is the main website for Games Done Quick: https://gamesdonequick.com/
Awesome Games Done Quick is the annual marathon performed in the winter, while Summer Games Done Quick is the annual marathon performed in the summer. This year, AGDQ is from Sunday, January 3rd to Sunday, January 10th.
Here is the schedule of all the AGDQ'21 games that will have speedruns, along with the names of the runners, expected run times, the category/type of speedrun, and donation incentives (prizes you can win by donating during a specific speedrun, additional caveats you can create for the speedrunners, etc.): https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule

Additional streams and links will be added to the OP over the next few days, as more information is released
Less than one week until AGDQ!
Is the Plexa speedrunning Golden Sun on Wednesday, January 6th our TL's Plexa?

I'd think so, I recall a (blog?) post of Plexa's on TL announcing a wr from back when and following Plexa on twitch afterwards and saw Plexa streams in recent times that seemed to be GS speedruns. So unless there's a cosmological coincidence, it should be our very own Plexa. :D
Quite some games I'm looking forward to, glad in particular that LADX made it in for GBC. That run is so cool and filled with tricks and skips. Played it so much since I've been a kid, it really has its own place in my heart. In general, there seems to be a resurgence of games I followed closely in the past, so I'm really looking forward to this. Hope it all works out, but I'd assume so given there's plenty of experience already.

Looking forward to this as usual, it never gets old, although it seems most of my favourites are during when I sleep yet again haha.
Also nice to see one of the TLers represent.

I'm always particularly interested in Nintendo (especially N64) games, and here are some of the scheduled games I'm looking forward to watching, the most:
Sunday: DKC and DKR Monday: YL and D3 Tuesday: Hades Wednesday: Golden Sun and SMW2 Thursday: LoZ:LADX Friday: SML2, SML3, DKC2, FF7, LoZ:MM, SM64, SMS Saturday: SMB2, LoZ:ALttP, SMB35, Pokemon Blue Sunday: LoZ:OoT

Looking forward to AGDQ being on my second screen for the next week.
Good luck on your run Plexa! Golden Sun is a pretty amazing rpg series that came out of left field for me when I first picked up a GBA. Never did play the 3rd game though.

I've been trying to get in with The 7th Guest, but they're never gonna accept T7G lmao maybe one day I'll get in with Deus Ex Randomizer, at least doing commentary for it

this Mirror's Edge run is sick
|
Yea, that was a great game to start with. Very fun to watch, enjoyable runner and commentators too.
|
just watched DKC and Just Cause 3, both were really good.
JS3 is pretty fun
|
for people who actually went to sleep, Otogi: Myth of Demons and Ghostbusters were a lot of fun

I'm a bit bummed that I missed Dark Messiah, did anyone catch it?
On a different note seems weird to me that none of the streamers nor the casters I've watched reacted to any of the donations mentioning loss. Am I weird to expect casters to shortly express condolences when people who gift 500$ to the organizers of the event mention that they lost their mother to cancer last year?
These people remind us that so many people are loosing people they value to cancer and that it really is one of the banes of our modern societies. While the stream is intentionally a bit light hearted a lot of the donators are explicitly donating because cancer left a mark on themselves or families and for me that's one of the things that brings us together for this event.

Yeah the Otogi run was awesome! Looking forward to Golden Sun, picked it up some years ago to casually play but never got around completing it. Will be interesting to see the game being broken by a TLer as well!

I can watch this year while I work from home so I’m catching so much more, really enjoying this AGDQ.

Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City was pretty awesome lol, looks like an actually well made game

Half a million dollars donated already!

I had to miss his run due to the time slot but I'm excited to see the VOD.

I was hype for the metroid prime run but its again an out of bound run... Now im really sad
|
Golden Sun was great to watch, commentary was super good and helped at least me to understand a lot of the nuance behind the stuff happening!
From this morning's runs I'd definitely recommend the Epic Dumpster Bear 2 race and the current Mr Bones run, these are some precious jewels of video games to say the least :D

loved the golden sun run!
also want to shoutout the lovely folks who donated to have one of the pokemon in the platinum run after recently passed wrestler Jon "Brodie Lee" Huber( also known as Luke Harper).
|
One million dollars donated so far!
|
Yeah the golden sun run was fun, didn't know about the elemental weaknesses hint despite probably upwards of 200 hours in both games and felt like an idiot xD
Commentary was also neat, Plexa was one of the few casters that reacted to messages not just from his circle of GS friends, the afterwords were nice and the couch was fun.
MP was less out of bounds than the last MP run I saw, would guess that upwards of 60% of the run was in bounds if you count the little invisible rocks within rooms. That moment in pirate labs was spicy.
|
That Mario Land 2 race was intense.
Really looking forward to FF7-PC later today. I've seen parts of the PC port run before, and it's just wild how much went in to figuring out the disc-swap manipulations in it.
|
Day9 getting a shoutout from covertmuffin before the Wc3 run, cool
|
$1.5M right now!
|
Enjoyed the Golden Sun run as well....at the moment I have to say the Medievil run is definitely making me feel old but enjoying how the caster is talking the audience through his run.
Looks like I'll be hitting more vods by the looks of it...
|
really considering trying to stay up until the event is over, but idk if I'll be able to make it
|
Two million dollars so far!!!

I don't know the game really, but isn't this kind of a roundabout way to compete in Mario 35? why not get them all in the same lobby?
kosmic still has 15 players alive in his lobby? compared to 3, 3, and 2? isn't that like really unlucky to get much better opponents lol, I wonder if it would ever be worthwhile to leave a game early because the opponents are unusually good
does this game have skill based matchmaking? I doubt it cause that would make this really unfair, you could just tank your MMR before the match?
wait they're gonna do this for an hour and a half and just compare kill counts and lobby victories at the end? why is a KO worth more points (1) compared to a 2nd or 3rd place? (0 points)

now that the event is over, I think my favorites out of what I was able to watch live are:
Mirror's Edge, Donkey Kong Country, Just Cause 3, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Otogi Myth of Demons, Ghostbusters, Sonic 1, Sonic 3 Angel Island Revisited, Sonic Mania, Sonic 06, Diablo 3, Shovel Knight, Left 4 Dead 2, F.E.A.R., Michael Jordan, Yoshi's Island, Mr Bones, Halo 3, Half-Life, Resident Evil 5, Warcraft 3, Mario 64 blindfolded, Serious Sam 1&2, Mario 2, Super Meat Boy, The Messenger, TASbot Freedom Planet, Zelda Link to the Past, and Zelda Ocarina of Time

Thanks for the list! I would like to add Diddy Kong Racing, FF7, and Golden Sun to that already-great list of recommended games! I look forward to hearing any other games highly recommended by others
Unless more post-marathon donations are being counted, AGDQ has the total amount raised for this event recorded as $2,776,093.03 ( https://gamesdonequick.com/tracker/event/AGDQ2021 ) That's amazing!

Caught the tail end of the marathon, but got a bit busy in the week and i'll have to catch up on the Golden Sun vod. 2.7 million is excellent for a purely online event and gotta get my butt practicing a Command & Conquer NoD speedrun to submit for the next.

Wow spider-man shattered dimensions was sick
|
OoT run was something else.
Also Golden Sun 1 and SM64 blind were also great runs.
