Trump just approved a delay and said the process should play out. This is definitely happening now regardless of what Grassley wants. Get ready for it to get ugly. Political hacks like Cruz cross examining her on live TV... what can go wrong!

I still wish Feinstein would have brought this up weeks ago. Sigh.

Well that's unexpected. I guess a couple of his closest people had a long minute with his ear and told him to do it this way or else. If he's also realizing he'll need to nominate someone else, this is an important first step in that direction as well.

I don’t think Trump was super invested pushing through the conservative think tank’s chosen judge before the mid terms. The people pushing for the confirmation to move forward ASAP are the money people that see the mid terms as a reset of the board.

Waiting on releasing the accusation until after questions were asked and almost to the very end of the process brings implications at the very least.

In a world were everyone are good faith actors she would have brought it up during the hearing and when he was under oath. Now we're in a world were people just speculate and counter speculate about it.

So again its comparative to what the republicans are doing but at the same time you can't say that you're better then the republicans when what you do is comparative to what the republicans are doing.

There is literally no benefit to following rules your opponents consistently do not. The political process is cheapened anyway, why should that only come at the cost of those one party represents?
Aside from the specifics here with Ford not wanting this out in the open, if Feinstein was playing tactics here, it's about time. From an outsiders perspective, the democrats are seriously mediocre party. But the republican party is like something out of a book of parody villains, every bit of their own medicine they taste might bring them a little closer to realising this isn't actually how they want the game to be played.

Well no there is. You get to say at the end of the day that you're the better party in congress and that you are the most respectable politicians. Its called creating a difference between you and the other guy where you are better then them. Its the most basic political strategy.

The democrats don't lose all the time because they refuse to do what republicans do. They lose beacuse they're filled with a culture of loseing. Republicans have been playing this game before the democrats decided to play it and thus have the advantage in it and will have the advantage as long as the democrats play it. You don't create advantages by following in the footsteps of your opponent.

So when Republicans do it it's because the other side did something bad and obviously deserved it, but when the Democrats start to volley back it's them stooping to the R's level in an unacceptable way.

This isn't at all what I said. What I said was that the D's can't call themselves better then the R's when they act the same as the R's.

Who cares whether they can call themselves better? That doesn't put you in office to enact policy. The R's have shown us entirely too many times that all they give a shit about is winning their seat, and it's been working. They've started playing the game by new rules, and the Democrats have been losing because they didn't adapt. They've been getting stomped on. At this point, I care way more about Democrats doing what they have to do to balance out what the Republicans have been doing, than whether they can go to sleep at night telling themselves they're really better than the R's.

So yes, you're making a point. No, I don't think it matters.

Ok if its not about being better then the other party my argument still stands beacuse its a dumb person who decides to play the same way their opponent has been playing and expect to be better then them at it. All that people like you are asking for is to codify what the republicans are doing as the new normal and have the democrats play by their rules. Its dumb beacuse the Republicans wrote those rules and understand them better.

It's beyond codified into normal already. The Republicans have been doing it for too long. Their voters know the deal, and they keep turning out. The way Republicans are doing things isn't magically a problem because of the Democrats.

And no, they won't just start playing the game and be better than the Republicans at it. They're well practiced in the art of political warfare. But if the Democrats continue to do nothing differently, they're going to continue losing in spectacular fashion. Their virtue over the Republicans means nothing in that case. So yes, I want them to do something differently.

Doing something different doesn't mean blindly trying to do the same thing your opponent is doing. Obama was doing something different during his campaign that worked that wasn't what the republicans were doing before he abandoned it when he got into office. It was inspiring hope and bringing people together positively.

As far as message, sure that's great. Hope is better than fear-mongering any day of the week in my book. Especially from a president who can form coherent thoughts. But in the day-to-day, Democrats can't just play nice with the Republicans. They abuse it unless they're kept in check, and nobody's been doing it. This is about the current state of affairs, wherein the Democrats have been little more than doormats for the Republicans. That's what needs to change.

I agree actually with all of that.

Moreso the politicaly astute people seeing that the midterms arn't going to go well probably for the gop's control over congress and wanted a conservative leaning judge instead of having to chose a compromise candidate.

Trump probably still thinks hes going to win in November.

The part I am excited about is the Freedom Caucus serving in the minority. They have been in the majority their entire political careers and it will be nice to see them have to deal with the Democrats calling the shots and telling them no. The David Nunes of the congress are not going to like it.

https://theintercept.com/2018/09/17/cyrus-sanai-federal-court-employees-attempted-to-come-forward-to-chuck-grassley-and-dianne-feinstein-neither-responded/

THE TOP REPUBLICAN and Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee were both approached in July by an attorney claiming to have information relevant to the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The attorney claimed in his letter that multiple employees of the federal judiciary would be willing to speak to investigators, but received no reply to multiple attempts to make contact, he told The Intercept.

Cyrus Sanai made his first attempt to reach out to Sens. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., in a letter dated July 24.

Sanai told the committee leadership that “there are persons who work for, or who have worked for, the federal judiciary who have important stories to tell about disgraced former Chief Judge Alex Kozinski, and his mentee, current United States Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. I know that there are people who wish to speak out but fear retaliation because I have been contacted by more than a half-dozen such persons since Judge Kozinski resigned in disgrace.”

Looks like there's potentially more stuff that's going to come out now that the accusation has been established?

What's amazing to me is how bad Feinstein looks in all that, I'm really curious how this is going to change her re-election bid. Can she spin it to make it seem like she's defeating the Kavanaugh confirmation, or will she be pounced on as sitting on the evidence that could have come out earlier?

Both..?

I can't stop asking the question: Why the fuck did you wait this long, you...*ahem*...why did you wait this long?

If it is simply for the sake of harming the republican party before they could swap in someone else, I can respect and appreciate that. I think republicans are outperforming democrats largely because of their admission that the two parties are fundamentally enemies. I fully support continuing the type of relationship set forth by denying Garland. If that is what Feinstein was after, keep shooting. But I mean, what else would it be?

I think folks should look at that letter before deciding. Seriously, read it. All of the evidence in the letter could be valid correct and I still wouldn't take that attorney, Cyrus Sanai, up on his offer. That thing reads like law slash fic and some of the worst legal pleadings I've been exposed to. I can see why Feinstein might avoid contacting that attorney and look into his claims through alternative routes.

And this is why I avoid believing the Intercept until someone else picks up the story. They found out about the first letter to Feinstein, so now they run this story. Which would be fine, but the sole piece of evidence they have letter that reads like a liberal Alex Jones wrote it and nothing else.

Edit: Also, it is weird this guy is an attorney who practices in the same jurisdiction of the Judge he has been "calling out" for years as a sexual deviant. Although he turned out be right, he also has a reputation of being “vexatious litigant”, which is lawyer code for shit box attorney that makes Judge refresh their memory on how to hold someone in contempt properly.

Haha that letter is a trip. He’s a perjurer, near-rapist, and now caught up in a porn-distribution ring in the federal judiciary.

My favorite parts might be details of his first-hand investigation following putting his children to sleep on Christmas Eve and all the people that tried to kill the story!

Yeah, the lawyer comes off as a nut, but he was right about Kosinski so I'm torn between dismissing this as the ravings of a madman and thinking we should investigate a little further.

The senators have the ability to contact the 9th circuit court staff without going through this man. Or just go through the people that investigated that judge. His main complaint isn’t that the senate refused to review his claim, but that they won’t call him back.

Two pieces of big news. Trump just imposed tariffs on 200billion in goods from China, which is a massive escalation of the trade war. China vows retaliation. I guess Trump got tired of seeing good economic news. With numbers that big the average American will absolutely see the effects of this.

Second, hearings are scheduled for next week for Ford and Kavanaugh to testify. It appears to be a public hearing next Monday. The circus is on. I repeat, the circus is a go.

Trump ordered declassification of all of his 'favourite' FBI peoples text messages about the investigation, and some select pages of the FISA warrant for Carter Page. Seems very strange to do it for an ongoing investigation. All to find some sort of 'bias' angle again like the Nunes memo charade probably?

Sounds like a desperate move to get more ammunition to attempt to discredit the investigations.

And you can bet your bottom dollar the information declassified will be utterly out of context to draw a completely different picture from reality.

Wasn't the original number supposed to be 25% on 200 billion?

I'm holding onto cash and waiting for the Republicans to crash the global economy. Looking forward to the fire sale.

Sounds like a desperate move to get more ammunition to attempt to discredit the investigations.

And you can bet your bottom dollar the information declassified will be utterly out of context to draw a completely different picture from reality.

I mean, its pretty hard to see how that is possible. Most of the leaks he will be seeking to refute have already presented the other side of the story.

From the news this morning on NPR there seems to be a real concern among the FBI and Justice department that the documents will put some sources at risk and caused others to stop providing the US with information. It does not sound anyone beyond Trump and his fan club in the House think this is a good idea.
