This is just day 1 from these counties plus total votes so far from Texas in general broken by voter "registration off primaries".

Harris County's numbers are astronomical too, 50% more than the 2022 midterm, almost matching 2024 presidential day 1. 100k in person votes and completely shattered the old record. I think it is really weird that those statistics exist already before voting is finished. Do you not have any laws to prevent that from happening?

Early results influence later votes, which is a bad thing imo. All statistics about voting behaviour should only be available once voting is finished. Else people are tempted to join the winning team, or not go vote if they think it won't matter anyways.

(Spreading voting over 2 weeks or so probably makes that a lot harder to actually do)

Public information is gathered with regards to IF you voted in Texas, and what primary you have voted in. But it does not say WHO you voted for per se. For example, my family and I recently got mail from a GOTV-adjacent organization that basically said which elections we had voted in. That is public information. So it knows that I have voted in every Texas election since I moved to the state in 2021. But it doesn't know who I voted for. In the same way that the graphics posted only collect data on the counties that have voted and what their breakdown was.

All that is to say, data can tell one story, but it's not a complete story given unknown variables, as is the case with the pictures I uploaded. I only merely wish to post them to give people some insight into Texas-specific information as it's my home state and has a lot on the line this election cycle.

As for day 2 results: slightly less than 2024 metrics, seems to be lagging by about 10%, which is still really good turnout in a midterm year.

Absolutely, it is trying to piece stuff together from incomplete information. But that doesn't stop people from trying to use that information.

Here in Germany, it is illegal to publish any statistics or surveys about the election on election day (until the polls close). Because that would break the basic principle of equality in elections, because then the later voters would have information that the earlier voters do not, and may change their vote strategically based on those surveys or statistics. Publishing surveys on election day would thus be an illegal manipulation of elections.

I think that that is a generally good idea principle, but of course it would be hard to do that for 2+ weeks of early voting.

We don't publish actual results until polls close. This is simply open source information that these websites pull to give a picture of how things are going right now. In the same way that same-day exit polls are common in European countries as well which basically tell a story before the official votes have started to be tabulated and released after polls close.

Though, I do think SOME exit polls may be released before all states have closed their elections due to the timezone differences in America (eastern state exit polls may start to come out while there are still an hour or two of voting in western states).

I am not talking about actual results from the votes. I am talking about any kind of survey done on election day, be it open source or not. None of them can be published before 18:00 here in Germany.

Ah that's interesting. Literally no polls of any kind can be done in Germany before an election? Or just before any form of early voting has been done (so basically as of today for early voting, Texas would no longer be able to begin any form of surveys/polls).

Absolutely backfiring on him but it's not like he had much to lose. He's currently far below her in the polls with the majority of polls having her at 49-50% while Vivek is capped at 45%. That being said, still an absolutely despicable ad to put out. Fuck him.
