If I am somewhat more aligned with a candidate of above average intelligence and their exists a genius level candidate with massive experience and credentials ... I will vote for the genius.
The most glaring example would probably be Joe Clark versus Pierre Elliot Trudeau. I woulda voted for Pierre Elliot Trudeau all the way even though I am far more aligned politically and socially with Clark.
