Authoritarian shithole is especially when someone uses a law after it was already established that the law doesn't really matter and everyone had basically a hall pass for it. It's authoritarian when you don't let people do whatever the fuck they want anymore. In fact, law itself is authoritarian. Republicans existing is authoritarianism. The concept of a western government, is authoritarianism.

The university’s leadership argues many of the government’s requests, including an “audit” of the “viewpoint” of its students and staff, go far beyond the role of the federal government and may violate Harvard’s constitutional rights.
DHS is demanding all records of international students participating in activities deemed “illegal,” “dangerous or violent” or threatening over the past five years, Noem’s letter says, pointing especially to audio or video footage of “any protest activity” involving foreign students on campus.
Aw golly gee I can’t see where people are getting those authoritarian vibes from.
The first bolded part, I still think it’s a very politically motivated bullshit power play overall with colleges, but OK. Case can be made there.
The second. Any protest activity? Any?
What’s authoritarian about demanding a list of foreign students involved in any kind of protest so you can potentially deport them.
It’s a very pro free-speech move. Good to see conservatives are delivering on free speech on college campuses after making a song and dance about it for years.

There is some interesting articles that pop up everyone in a while that show the parallels between narcissist's and how Trump is running the country. The TLDRs is basically about keeping everyone in a permanent state of fight or flight because of constant chaos of crisis manufacturing. Seems pretty spot on. And if you buy the comparison what other countries are currently doing to deal with the US, not good at all.

A couple of funny things to lighten the mood. Trump claimed he invented the word equalize (perhaps soon he will take credit for the question mark). And in the big beautiful bill there was a line in it to remove the excise tax from tanning beds!
I can't believe this is real, but of course it is.
“So that the American public knows what this bill does… Would you please read page 901, line 20?” Leger Fernández asked Smith.
“I think it’d be better if you read it,” Smith replied.
“Oh, he doesn’t want to read it!” Leger Fernández said with a laugh. “This is in their bill. They don’t want to read a line from their own bill.”
Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.) eventually read the provision aloud: “It says Section 11106: Repeal of excise tax on indoor tanning services.”
Amid more laughs, Leger Fernández contrasted the provision, which makes it easier to own a tanning bed, with the bill’s drastic cuts to Medicaid and food assistance. She took a shot at Trump’s tanning habits and wondered aloud if he put that language into the bill.
“There are certain elected officials who appear to have a certain orange hue about them,” she said. “Maybe they want to make sure tanning beds get a little bit of special credit.”

Im not sure if theyre responsible for violence is never the answer nonsense, but I definitely agree that that the sentiment is wrong and I agree that history is basically written in blood, just like labor law. Anyone who thinks that we wouldn't still be laboring under monarchs without violence is dumb as hell. Violence has been and still is a crucial tool, because no amount of peaceful protesting or strongly worded letter will stop an authoritarian, or a fascist, or any other number of scumbags from killing you or those you love, once they get enough power and are comfortable using violence then the only solution is to return it with greater force. Ideally we don't need to use violence, but when noone enforces any of the guardrails that exist to prevent the necessity of violence then... well violence is necessary.

Thats actually liberal thing, if anything nazis proved that sometimes violence is the only answer (unless you believe that there were some nonviolent means which would stop them).

It would be disingenuous of me to pretend folks haven’t overstepped the mark here, but for many it’s been an attempt to balance various values.
However, I do somewhat expect that folks who were banging on about the censorious left to have something to say on the matter now. Otherwise, I’m rather skeptical as to whether free speech was ever their issue in the first place.
Just to make it clear, not talking about you, but more generally.

Italic - if by people consequences you mean people (eg. being punched in the face) then thats fine. If by people consequences you mean government (eg: government) then it is not.
Bolded - tbf my opinion on Trump overreach on free speech, is the same as it was on any other overreach, in this case however my voice would be a drop in the bucket here, so why bother posting? I was however about to post about Hasan situation ( btw I deeply dislike dude) regarding recent Israeli diplomats shooting. I dont think (given what I currently know) that he should be in any way shape or form hold in any way accountable/connected to those. (granted thats assuming that there wont be any DMs unveiled, where he offers to pay the dude, or provides him with weapon, or such). It seems however like he may get in trouble for that. If you are interested in my opinion on any other particular free speech overreach, just ask. I'll read about it and give you my opinion.

When people feel they are pushed to their limit in for a certain reason some want to do something. If they can't protest peacefully in an effective way a small subset want to do it violently. In most countries that isn't a problem but you are a heavily armed society so a lot more people have the means to actually kill someone.
The CEO killing resonated because 60% of your personal bankruptcy is because of medical debt. People start seeing their parents who have done "everything right" not being able to retire because they got sick. For Israel - Palestine you aren't even allowed to protest.
If further rights to protest in meaningful ways are curbed (which is happening) and a large enough section of the population gets pissed off about something there will be people killed.
When (not if because you aren't dealing with your debt) something like medicaid/care gets cut things will start to boil. In most countries that would result in massive protests but you are kind putting the lid on. I would assume it would just make it boil over.

JFC, I can't even imagine how utterly hollow as a person you need to be to find that article funny.
On top of that, conflating antifa (rw boogie man) with Louigi (radicalized through pain and suffering from US insurer) and embassy shooter (radicalized through witnessing endless suffering inflicted in a ruthless way) and putting all of that into the same sentence is breathtaking level of brain rot.
Seek help.

They're all cases of political violence from people who have no power, no comprehension of the world, no morals, usually no hobbies to speak of, and no coherent goal except terrorism. They are all radicalized, as you point out, and none for good reason. Either the people on this page, like the guy above you who wants to grenade SCOTUS, have such machinations, or they're in a permanent state of bluster associated with an election not going their way. I want to know which it is.
