Publish and confirm and publish to disseminate all the issues and corroboration. When you say "no you can't have any" when the media asks you for any additional information at all so that they can corroborate, you deserve to get laughed out of the room. That's all that's happening here. They wouldn't even trust the Daily Caller with the info : just Fox News and the NY Post so far. I'm now pretty certain that no, they should not have ever been published. The NY Post forfeited all rights to be treated as a breaking source, ever again, in the future, with one story. It's incredible how blatantly a lie it was from the start : which was why no journalist there was willing to attribute their name to it. These are the new red flags I've read just in the time since your post: One of the sources of this whole conspiracy isn't even real. Their photo it turns out, is an ai composite, the security company they said he worked for doesn't exist, and no one with that name has ever existed in Switzerland. One month before a purported leak of files from Hunter Biden's laptop, a fake "intelligence" document about him went viral on the right-wing internet, asserting an elaborate conspiracy theory involving former Vice President Joe Biden's son and business in China. The document, a 64-page composition that was later disseminated by close associates of President Donald Trump, appears to be the work of a fake "intelligence firm" called Typhoon Investigations, according to researchers and public documents. The author of the document, a self-identified Swiss security analyst named Martin Aspen, is a fabricated identity, according to analysis by disinformation researchers, who also concluded that Aspen's profile picture was created with an artificial intelligence face generator. The intelligence firm that Aspen lists as his previous employer said that no one by that name had ever worked for the company and that no one by that name lives in Switzerland, according to public records and social media searches. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/security/how-fake-persona-laid-groundwork-hunter-biden-conspiracy-deluge-n1245387 The person who claims to have been an associate of the Bidens is 635$k in debt, making it super easy to compromise him. A week and a half ago he was ordered to pay it by a court, and suddenly he has a change of heart. Order: https://heavy.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/bobulinski-lawsuit.pdf Screenshot: He also still has literally 0 proof that anything he's saying is true. Biden's campaign is also now back to claiming that not even the alleged meeting in that email ever happened. The only reason any narrative exists about the media is because conservative media has been pushing it in a wildly reckless manner. Responsible news media has also been especially reluctant to publish unverified info on this since it reeks of foreign intelligence interference, and it has the exact same timing and pattern as what happened in 2016. Any "questions to be asked" about it are also ridiculous, as whatever Hunter is guilty of, he's not a factor in the election. I can trust that Biden isn't going to hire him to be part of his staff: As Ivanka is currently working in the White House, her vagaries are much more relevant but still treated with kid gloves by the mainstream media.

Part of journalism is ascertaining if a story is credible enough to be published, it’s not just throwing anything out there as long as you name your sources. If nothing else because the impact of a scoop in the public consciousness tends not to be equally counteracted by a retraction. An odd quirk of human nature, but a pertinent one nonetheless. One that should be factored in to what one puts out there.

Publish and confirm and publish to disseminate all the issues and corroboration. That is so ass backwards, I am not even surprised it's coming from you in this instance. What media narrative would that be? That the nypost is not worth the paper it is printed on running a potentially major story, sourced by Rudy fucking Giuliani and "Ukrainian/Chinese friends" - the President's (current) lawyer - and THEN let the chips fall as they may? And then if shit sticks ask more questions? That is everything what is wrong with journalistic integrity. You source, you corroborate, you recheck then you publish. You being ok with how things instead went down is not only shameful, it is creating quite the media narrative indeed, one you should be concerned for. Sourcing is not enough if you are being a mouth piece for one side. Stay with bashing social media companies, they are the closest thing to an easy target since everyone hates them.

Republican's only line of attack on Biden for a while now has been centred on Hunter's dealings in Ukraine [nothing else has stuck], so it's unsurprising that they're trying to milk it for all it's worth. Unless they can conclusively show that Joe Biden was compromised in any way, this is unlikely to sway the election. My guess is that even if they finally came up with something genuinely incriminating on Joe at this point, they've lost so much credibility that it'd probably be dismissed out of hand and wouldn't affect the outcome of the election.

538 has Trump at 10%. Amazing that it's that high, but well, Biden still has three times the chances to win Clinton had four years ago. Also it looks like it will be the biggest turnout in American history. At least we know what people think of the narrative that it's all the same and that it doesn't matter anyway. An immense majority of Americans clearly believes it does matter a lot.

Or, like any sane person once they get really, really important data, back it up onto like 15 different drives instead of sending the only copy they have per mail. Or driving over personally to hand it over. This really only makes sense to people who have literally no idea about anything digital. Which i guess might be their target demographic. But even then, would you ever send the original of your birth certificate per mail? And this stuff probably has more impact than your birth certificate. It boggles the mind that anyone believes any of this. If millions of dollars hang on a document, would you not be extra careful, make multiple backups, and hand it over personally? The more i think about it, the more absurd the whole story gets, and i cannot even imagine who the person who would believe it is.

But given that everybody involved appear to be septuagenarians, it's *possible* they really are just that dumb when it comes to technology? "Aha! I know better than to use a floppy disk this time around!" Has there been any official statement made as to why they couldn't just use email / Google Drive / Zip, like everyone else living in 2020? It seems really weird that they'd use a flashdrive and risk losing such precious cargo, assuming this exists at all. Right, and it's not like Tucker Carlson and all the other Republican news faces don't understand e-mail. You don't need to be a Millennial to understand the importance of backing up files and the usefulness of sending them electronically. Hell, all of my personal teaching resources over the past decade are backed up across three computers, two external hard drives, and Google Drive, and I'm not trying to illegally influence an election. It would have made much more sense, to me at least, for Tucker Carlson and whoever else to just pay someone to fabricate more evidence (like a fake receipt or a screenshot/PDF of fake text conversations, etc.) and then show them off to their viewers. Say an anonymous source dropped them off and insist they look legit, so even when they're disproven, Fox News can just say this is all more muddying of the fake MSM news trying to cover it up, etc. It's literally Fox News 101 from their daily playbook.
