Their political future is intrinsically tied with Trump, so I don't see anyone (barring the odd misfit here and there) doing anything. Just acting surprised for a few minutes then ignoring the matter.

They don't need to be careful, or manipulate, or be discreet any more. Well, I mean then you have people like Danglar who - if I understand his POV - will admit that Trump is kinda awful, but still believe that in fact the real responsibility lies on the other side. As if having chosen a proto fascist batman villain as POTUS had been a sad necessity because the liberals are ruining the country (and dare to point out a large portion of his supporters are quite racist). Also, I think that we are in an age of extreme cynicism, where a lot of people believe that politicians are like characters from House of Cards or something. That they believe in nothing, lie all the time, do unspeakable things behind the doors, and so on and so forth. These fantasies go so far that to be openly awful is kind of better, because all the awfulness of Trump is still mild compared to the Frank Underwood idea that those folks have of normal politicians (I think that specific show has done an awful lot of damage at a very bad timing in that regard, btw). I think that explains why people trusted Clinton less than Trump, even though she is probably relatively honest and certainly cares about the common good. There is so much more you can fantasize about someone who respects protocol and protect her privacy than a clown like Trump that just blunders, lies and cheats in plain sight for everyone to see.

But it'd work a damn sight better than people dying, an effect which would be much more transient in the grand scheme of things. Prices are high because the government makes it so. Kinda sad how the massive wealth redistribution and systemic destruction of minority and small businesses is barely even background noise at this point. Neither party has a plan to avoid catastrophe, they both just have plans on how to cynically exploit it for their political and personal advantage.
