It's a comedy roast at the White House that happens every year, and it wasn't even as harsh as previous ones.
The best part is that so many conservatives and Trump supporters (Mike Huckabee especially) are flipping out about how offensive her rhetoric was. Like, relax guys... it's just locker room talk! Of course, Trump is so thin-skinned that he refuses to even attend the Correspondence Dinners.

Edit: Pretty much every picture here is worse than anything Michelle Wolf said, and obviously calling out rapists and corrupt politicians isn't nearly as bad as our president casually making all of his absurd and hateful remarks. If you can give insults, you've gotta be able to take them too. ...Someone forget their popsicle again Yeah the flaming hypocrisy is unreal. You can't claim offense at someone pointing out the circus when you helped elect a clown. And Colbert's was, IMO, a lot more vicious. They knew what this could be, it's not meant to be a pat-on-the-back and drink champagne to the sound of audio-fellatio evening. Contrary to Mike's tweet, these evenings are often an almost perfect celebration of the first amendment.

And previous presidents leaned into the discomfort and took their well-deserved smacks, including GWB and Obama. They graciously nodded and acknowledged and applauded and laughed. That's something to be respected about a world leader who can listen to criticism; Trump runs and hides.

A comedian’s job at that event is to ruffle some feathers and hurt everyone’s feeling equally. The only complaint that I’ve seen that seems valid is a non-white house/Washington reporter complaining that he now has to defend the white house press corps.

I love how conservatives felt like it was a good idea to adopt the whole "We just tell it like it is! Me and muh boy Cletus ain't give no damn if we offend y'all snowflakes!" only to immediately go into the fetal position as soon as a *comedian* starts laying into them. The event specifically calls for below the belt jabs. This is the intended purpose. It's like the entire idea of being made uncomfortable is 100% off the table for these people.

Whwn I saw the coverage and whining this morning all I could think of is "I thought liberals were the supposed to e the snow flakes".

There's a running joke among one of the political chats that I participate in that conservatives project all of their faults onto liberals and are guilty of everything they accuse liberals of. It's not 100% accurate, but as a heuristic for answering "Is <thing> a conservative problem?" it's pretty effective to look at the answer to "Do conservatives accused liberals of <thing>?"
I've been pretty happy with how liberals have been grabbing the special snowflake language and using it against conservatives displaying thin skin and a need to not have to hear people telling them things they don't like.

The entire thing is a side show, meant to drive grievance and feed the narrative that the "media is out to get their guy". It's like Nixon 2.0.
In contrast Trump's last rally is filled with lies, vague threats against other politicians, an award he might have made up, continued confusion about what a community college is and claims that the media hates Trump supporters.
But the Trump administration needs to hire me. I attended a community college for 2 years and I am the expert they need to solve this mystery for them.

Actually I was referring to her line about Ivanka being 'about as helpful to women as an empty box of tampons'. Quite a tasteless line imo.

I agree.
Comedians like to make fun of Trump's family members for being ugly or unloved or whatever and it's really inappropriate.
You can make fun of them for being out of touch or corrupt or hypocritical, but the personal attacks just make comedians look bad.

Yeah that kind of language is.... incorrect?
ps the roast wasn't funny though. The number one job of comedy is to be funny and this was just not funny.

Tasteless sure, but completely fair and accurate. Ivanka creates the veneer of concern, paints are picture of representation without the administration in any way actually committing to policy or even rhetoric that helps women. The line in no way attacked her appearance or whatever else, it attacked her role in the administration, or at least the role her public appearance attempts to play from time to time, which is completely fair game.
EDIT: Drunken grammar

How is that a personal attack rather than an attack on Ivanka's professional role in the White House?
Calling it tasteless is hilarious too, it's a completely PG related insult.

It's 100% spot on. Ivanka has been absolutely useless in supporting women, which was the exact analogy MW was making.
She was gifted a position of power and is doing nothing with it.

At least what's considered funny or not is subjective; I found it to be funny, but more importantly (and less subjectively) the comments she made were absolutely normal for a WHCD. The only thing that wasn't normal is that the president refused to show up.

It reminds of a lecture Alan Watts gave about the need for a court jester in medieval times to remind the powerful that they were just as human and just as mortal as the rest of us. Its a more important institution than it first appears to be. The fact that Trump does without it says alot (admittedly that we already knew) about him.

Agreed. I gained a lot more respect for GWB and Obama as people when they were able to take their roasts in stride, regardless of their successes and failures as presidents.

In retrospect, you're right. It wasn't a personal attack. I think it seemed like a personal attack to me when I heard it because I think Michelle's tone is off (personally I think she's not a very good comedian, but that's neither here nor there).
My statement was a bit more general though. I dislike it when comedians make fun of Eric Trump for being stupid or looking like a serial killer, or even stuff like making fun of Chris Christie for being fat.
Whether or not those things are true is irrelevant, but those are examples of things I think are tasteless and it happens all the time on Seth Meyers or Colbert's Late Show, etc.
But in regards to Ivanka, I'll concede the point. I guess it's easy to forget that she has a position in the white house for which she's doing (presumably) nothing, as opposed to just being part of the royal family, as it were.
Ultimately, a lot of things about the state of US politics really disgust me right now, but I find it equally also very distasteful when others use that as an excuse to stoop to new lows of their own.

I don’t think anyone in the Bush administration was having a good time during that thing.
