No word on precisely why is out yet, but he and his attorneys are expected to talk with the press. It is confirmed and the Judge ordered the case sealed(aka, record clear). My bet is that the Chicago Police continue to be complete garbage. My bet: Smollet is indeed a giant piece of garbage who faked the whole thing. But Chicago police did something that Smollet could make a big deal out of. Decided to just pretend nothing happened and move on? Either way, I'm pissed. Smollet did enormous damage to people facing legitimate hate crimes and racism. You could argue Smollet did more damage than a single hate crime when you look at how much the impact of this bullshit will spread. No word yet of the damage he might’ve done to his intended targets (of the smear) had he not screwed up the staging. It’s not just the real victims of hate crimes, it’s also the people wronged by smear jobs. He didn’t frame your group. True, but I am taking the perspective that so long as people are vindicated quickly, the damage is minimal. And I wouldn't call it "your" group either. It isn't fair for people to pretend 50% of the country are all one big blob and I don't think many people do. I didn't feel like "my group" had done anything wrong when that one dude shot up a republican baseball game. It was just some shit head being a shit head and that's the end of it. It would be different if Pelosi had recently talked about needing to shoot up baseball games. I'd feel shitty then. But it would be the same for a couple of dudes beating up a black guy. It would reflect poorly on Trump, because I really do think he has a certain amount of responsibility as the actual leader of the country and the person talkin' smack recently. But I think a lot of Trump voters don't identify with his violent language. They don't think its worth voting against, but they don't like it either. If they don't support it, it isn't their moral failing. You’re hedging quite a bit with the most identifiable symbol of that 50%. But I’m not here to argue you into my thinking on the racist/homophobic Trump supporter meme. I’m simply glad you acknowledge both impacts.
What are you saying this symbol is? And how I am hedging quite a bit? I definitely see this as essentially the same as a false rape accusation, meaning it is insanely immoral and a hugely bad thing for the person accused. It is all a matter of who is actually accused and who those people are lumped with. Since I am saying I didn't think poorly of Republicans as a whole because of the supposed hate crime, I am saying republicans as a whole did not sustain damage from it. But I suppose I would say they did sustain the damage from other people thinking that.
I believe that when someone puts out information they know is false, they are 100% responsible for all negative impacts as a result of it. Even more so when you are in a position of authority or are otherwise a figure in society. So all of the undeserved bad thoughts towards republicans as a result of the fake attack is all this dude's fault. But I suppose my original point is that you are underestimating how many democrats are perfectly reasonable and understand the idea that there are gonna be a few crazies in any million+ population.

Just a reminder that the Trump administration is trying to have the ACA repealed through the Courts. A recent ruling out of the 5th circuit declared that the removal of the fine for not having healthcare(the fine is zero, it still exists) made the entire ACA unconstitutional for reasons. The DOJ has been running with this, trying to strike down the law and effectively blow up the healthcare industry as we have come to now it since 2010. Not getting big headlines, but it is a problem DOJ is being used to enact political goals that the legislature couldn't accomplish.
Just a reminder that behind all the drama surrounding Trumps grifting and the special counsel, the administration is still trying to screw over people.

Because I get healthcare from my employer, part of me wants to see it all blow up so republicans can be swept out hard in 2020. Nothing would piss people off then finding out one day that Trump just took away all their kids between the age of 18-26 healthcare.
Then I remember that other people would get fucked really hard and I don't want it to happen
|
Yeah, I got into a pretty harsh exchange with a young, new co-worker who wanted the ACA to blow up because he didn't like the goverment being involved. He had no stakes in the outcome and only wanted it because "he believed in smaller goverment." I don't think he ever got into a discussion about politics where what he wanted would negatively impact someone that was right in front of him.

Meanwhile in Switzerland i today spent 25 minutes arguing, well she was shouting I tried calming, with a person that went to the US to have grey star operated whiteot telling us (healt insurance company) why it took 2 months to clear the OP which we paid in full at the end. The grey star was allready fixed years before but somehow the lense got bad, so we had to look into it and so on.
Btw: I checked because i wad wondering. Her OP, done in the US, was done way below US cost (~30-40%) because no european insurance company would pay the crazy US rates . Her reason to have done it in the US? I was there when my lense got bad...
I'm in accounting. Nothing to do with anything of it. Some days just start awesome. At least she hang up after because her doorbell rang.

I spoke too soon to Mohdoo about wrapping up the false hate crimeallegedly committed by Jussie Smolett. His employer, lawyers, and family are claiming vindication for having been the victim of a hate crime attack since charges were dropped. Those unidentified attackers are still out there somewhere. Let us all sympathize with him for being a victim and falsely blamed and vilified.
Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him. Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29th. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgment.
Our son and brother is an innocent man whose name and character has been unjustly smeared. Jussie is a son, a brother, a partner, a champion for human rights, and a genuine soul who would never be capable of what he was falsely accused of. He was the victim of an assault and then falsely blamed for his own attack. This morning truth has prevailed and he has been vindicated. All charges have been dismissed and his record expunged (cleared). The painful incidents we’ve witnessed him endure over the past 7 weeks have been heartbreaking and unjust to say the least. While many were quick to rush to judgement before hearing the actual truth, we are grateful that the truth about Jussie has come to light. We look forward to bringing the real perpetrators to justice. We thank God and our village for standing by us during this trying time. Statement of Smolett’s lawyers and family, qtd in The Blast

Do you find a parallel between you hating on Smolett for saying because there are no charges there must be no crime and Trump doing the same thing?

Just look at Reddit if you want to see the left's view of this. Hes toast. No one believes him and his career is still over. He just found a way to evade legal recourse. If anything, this ended up as a victory for the right since now they can point to this and the left has nothing to say.

I agree that not many will believe what his lawyers are saying, and there might be additional backlash depending on the DA & police department.

Which Trump supporters is this hurting the reputation of? There’s already a wealth of evidence that a minority are violent racists (see Charlottesville) and that the majority don’t engage in recreational lynching (because there’s millions of them and that would be a lot of lynching if they did, we’d notice it). Before Jussie I was of the view that some of them, like the Neo-Nazis, were violent racists but that most were peaceful racists like my in-laws who just call Obama a nigger and stock up on guns. Jussie changed absolutely nothing. It was like reading that a dog bit someone, I already knew that some dogs bite and that most dogs don’t. My view on dogs isn’t going to change based on a fabricated dog bite story, it won’t from a fabricated Trump supporter story.

It did change my view of Ben Shapiro though, now I know he is capable of being mad at the justice system for something, it's just that all the other stuff didn't make the cut.

I wouldn't mind Trump weaponizing this whole ordeal and using it as his next big thrust against liberals. A couple Tweets about how he is going to unseal everything would likely make everyone shit their pants.

I’m trying to get in the mind frame where my identity is so caught up in who I support for president that I’m offended when people accuse another supporter of a crime. Falsely or otherwise. But I just can’t get there because I can't trick myself into being that big of a sucker.

This has been a bigger problem than I wish it was and it is hard to understate how damaging it is to fighting against racism. Stuff like this sets us back so amazingly far. Democrats hate it because it makes it harder for people to take real racial issues seriously. Republicans hate it because it is used as slander against Trump supporters. So it is super toxic to everyone. Trump's twitter feed is like a nuke for social/media issues, which this is. If Trump drags Smollett through the mud (which he totally could), he could make the entire idea of false hate crime accusations be something people won't touch with a 10 foot pole.
This is one of those times where Trump could be a very useful idiot.

Statement of Smolett’s lawyers and family, qtd in The Blast Just look at Reddit if you want to see the left's view of this. Hes toast. No one believes him and his career is still over. He just found a way to evade legal recourse. If anything, this ended up as a victory for the right since now they can point to this and the left has nothing to say. You can say violent Trump supporters attacked you with bleach and a noose in the middle of the night, and walk away maintaining your innocence with all charges dropped. I didn’t see this twist coming at all. I agree that not many will believe what his lawyers are saying, and there might be additional backlash depending on the DA & police department. I wouldn't mind Trump weaponizing this whole ordeal and using it as his next big thrust against liberals. A couple Tweets about how he is going to unseal everything would likely make everyone shit their pants. I don't understand 2019. Not really. Nobody rational is doing false hate crimes, and certainly not anyone interested in anything Trump has to say. Furthermore it would take an eloquent oration on lifting political discourse above petty innuendo and slander, and there is absolutely no chance of getting one of those from Trump.
Trump is not about to lead us all into a new era of political integrity and dignity. The sooner he’s gone the sooner we can get back to normal.

He had no stakes in the outcome and only wanted it because "he believed in smaller goverment." I don't think he ever got into a discussion about politics where what he wanted would negatively impact someone that was right in front of him.
What was the outcome? Did you change his views?

Barr, the AG, decided to do his own little spin job on the findings before anyone could read it. With weird little things like “because there is no underlying crime” which is not a prong of obstruction. There doesn’t need to be a crime for someone to obstruct an investigation.
The report does not clear Trump. It specifically says so on the topic of obstruction. Which means there is likely probably cause that Trump tried to obstruct the investigation. Which means there is real evidence. And that is why the special counsel was appointed in the first place. First of all, obstruction of justice was not part of Mueller’s initial charge when Rosenstein first appointed him. Rosenstein likely added it (likely at Mueller’s request) as part of the expanded scope several months later. The initial reason for hiring Mueller was solely to investigate Russian interference in the election. Second, Barr never says that an underlying crime is required for an obstruction charge. But he does correctly point out that the presence or absence of the underlying crime is relevant as to whether to bring the charge. The absence of the underlying crime obviously weighs very heavily against obstruction. Show nested quote +Edit: I do like that the right is now throwing around the word traitor now that the report is out and Barr gave them some red meat. No one else has read the thing and we folks are going “All of Obama’s people were evil traitors and need prison.” Very Nixon. Let’s just cut the shit. You and everyone on your side have been wrong about just about everything important relating to this Russia conspiracy nonsense from day 1. People on my side of the argument, however, have been largely vindicated. Your continued casual dismissiveness of our points is laughably misplaced. There is ample reason to state that there are people who may have committed treason by launching the Russian conspiracy hoax and using it as a basis to weaponize the DOJ and FBI against Trump. The FISA misuse is real. Someone also abused the NSA database during this same time frame. All signs are pointing to people ultimately being prosecuted for this stuff. If I’m ultimately proven wrong on this, fine, but I promise you that these charges are far more real than what Trump was investigated for. And it’s only a matter of time before it rolls back onto Obama and Hillary.
I love how you say 'let's just cut the shit' and end your rant-a-graph with 'BUT HILARY AND OBAMA'. Emphasis mine.
Can you just cut the shit and stop with your fantasising about how everything is going to somehow bring down Hilary Clinton and/or Barack Obama? Did you learn nothing from the last time you were chomping at the bit to see her go down? Or the other times? You're every bit as delusional as the people you criticise.
Yes, your boy, your man, is vindicated. That doesn't mean Hilary is going down. And the chances of Obama getting touched by this are about equal to those of every Democrat in the US simultaneously being struck by lightning. All you do is reveal the partisan emotional bias at the heart of your supposed impartial legal analysis. Somehow, everything ends up with Hilary going down for you... yet she never does.
