I have no financial issues to deal with like other students do, I have no girl problems, I don't have a terminal disease, so why the fuck should I be unhappy? :D Also this forum is a constantly flowing well of funny and happyness to me like 95% of the time when I'm here.

Regardless, judging by the things happening in my life, I should be 7/8 or 9/10. I think too much about things like this to be able to really answer this question though.

I'm very very busy with university atm, but the stuff I learn is interesting and I like the intellectual challenge. I get along very well with the people I hang out.. Also I had a strange boost of self confidence lately, don't know where it came from but I like it ![]() Also I kissed a very pretty girl last week. So yeah, it's all good I guess.

Lost a lot of money, have to deal with a fucking whore of a landlord trying to milk me for money as I'm moving out and all in all my life is just scattered atm. If you had made this poll a few months back and pretty much at ANY time other than now, I would have voted 7/8, that's how I always am. But the last month has just sucked hard. Bring on the good times.

Rating something as intangible as feeling happy is impossible. Not only is there no real metric, it's unlikely any of us will ever know what being, according to your poll, truly '100%' happy is, or what being completely unhappy is. Of course, everyone has periods of their life, that vary in length and frequency, where they know they've felt happy, and maybe these known periods of happiness can be used to contrast, or identify, periods of unhappiness. That is ridiculous, though, because, ultimately, happiness is a choice. Whether or not this choice is an easy one is not important, but you're the only person who has the power to make yourself happy. This whole happiness gradient thing assumes that happiness is a random gift of life, something that either happens or it doesn't, and you calculate the arrival of this blessing based on what you perceive as good things or bad things in your life. As if the events of the world around you push up or down a scale, and at the end of the day, your position on this scale is your happiness rating. This is my opinion, anyway, and I think that, implicitly, the rest of you have chosen to be happy or unhappy. However, feel free to share your happiness equations with me if you think I'm wrong.

If someone's unhappy because they feel life is unfair (it is), and the world is cruel to them (it is too), it's also completely within their power to change their happiness, but not necessarily via a lifestyle change. I don't mean to say it's silly to contemplate your happiness, but that it's silly to think "This month I'm two fifths happy, and by next month I want to be at the six eights level!" I know this thread is meant to be irreverent and for fun, so sorry if I'm bringing it down, but discussing happiness and life happiness are of great interest to me.

I know this thread is meant to be irreverent and for fun, so sorry if I'm bringing it down, but discussing happiness and life happiness are of great interest to me. But its not always possible to change things. Last month was a sad month for me, because my girlfriend broke up with me. There was nothing I could do to change it, and there's no special way I can look at things which would make me see that in a positive light. Obviously measuring happiness precisely is ridiculous, but its not hard for me to say "the last month I've been unhappy due to this break-up and severe financial troubles, but I'm not at a depressed stage because I have been coping better then I expected + my flat mates are great". So yeah...you can't always change your happiness, and you can say roughly how happy you've recently been.

I guess that happiness from external stimuli just doesn't last long enough to get me to the next happy moment. Would like to be happy in the 'tween moments, when nothing entertaining's going on, but I don't seem to have that switch. "Be happy!" "Okay!" doesn't work for me. Meh... it's not interesting.

ctstalker i think it's perfectly fine to 'rate' happiness despite the lack of a concrete measure. recess is the 10 for an elementary school kid, and driving across the nation with only a giant green arrow pointing left on a map is mine. there are moments when the sun's just right and something about the wind brushes everything in surprising clarity and you just know that you've found something good. we are brought up with the objective to find 'happiness' in our lives, but even cute stupid forest creatures are down sometimes, even my yippityyappity dog sulks when nothing's wrong. it's overly idealistic to expect that it's all just a matter of choice. you factor in human civilization to our base animal instincts and it complicates everything a thousandfold. what's wrong with drifting and letting the big world push you around a bit? the proactive spirit that insists on changing everything to his liking is a genius, not the common human. the poll's fun too, we all mostly know each other and we're in the same community =) you canadians are crazy

It's simply a chemical balance in your brain that has to go through both sad and happy concentrations to avoid entropy, and your ability to only call happy reactions to selective attention is your self-esteem. No person can be perpetually happy or sad or even always happy or sad within a given scale. Also considering that every measurement is subjective and is itself prone to interference from a happy or sad mood, saying any number on the 1-10 scale would be correct for nearly everyone. I'd buy that ~~

Schools almost over, which I'm happy but the finals and all these stupid projects I have to do are pissing me off. (Dissecting pig, which is cool but we have a test on it after which I hate) and my math grades aren't going too well. And I'm just becoming isolated around, not talking to my good (girl) friends alot for some reason. But I have basketball intarumurals this tuesday and wednsday, playing 2 games the first day, root for me baby!

Then there will be the days where you feel 9/10 like when you scored straight As for that particular exams, got fantastic appraisal from your boss or colleagues or went out with this chick somewhere and days where you feel like a 3/4 when you lost to a 5 pool rush! LOL. j/k but it's somewhat true. It's just human to have highs and lows. People who claims it's a 9/10 all the time has either a incredibly worriless life or self deluded. On the other hand those who says they are 3/4 all the time just needs to break free from that mentality and find a purpose to live. I would say having a goal ROCKS!! really, if you have a purpose and you stick to you, you feel fantastic. In my university days, I aim to get As all the time and sometimes I don't but because I aim for that I do most of the time and that 4 years were simply "exciting" so to speak. Hope this can help some out.
