I don't know if any of you use WhatPulse, but it's a really interesting tool that keeps track of how many times you click and type and how far you move your mouse. It's not a keylogger, and several hundred thousand people use it. It's been going on for a couple years, but my old account got corrupted =( so I'm starting over
Jyvblamo has been a participant since 2005-07-30 (22 months ago), and in that time has typed 9,578,164 keys, clicked 4,830,540 times and moved his or her mouse for 69.34 miles. Averaging 0.18 keys and 0.09 clicks per second. This user last sent a pulse to this server on 2007-04-13 19:03:46 and has sent a total of 429 pulses overall. Jyvblamo lives in Canada.
Also, WhatPulse has a neat feature that tracks your key frequencies. Apparently my most used key is 'A', followed by 'D' and 'W'. Guess that's what you get for playing CS.

Wow this is fuckign cool, how come I have never seen this before?
Does the program take up a lot of resources? Ever have to close it for any reason?
EDIT- I signed up buy now its asking for Account name, password, and Profile?
What the fuck is profile? I typed in all the shit it said in the email, it wont let me get in. On the website itself how can I look at the team I joined ?
How do I run the program?
EDITx2- Gay, you have to press the retrieve account info button first.
But how come I'm not listed in the Teamliquid page?
Do I have to log in every time I start the comp to get the recording? Does it save the information on hard disk or send it to server? I have a computer I want to use this on at home that doesn't have the internet at the moment.
On April 18 2007 15:37 Rotodyne wrote: if you right click the 'W' in the tray, you can select 'Pulse'. Or you can set it to Pulse before a shutdown.
EDIT: Nvm you found it
Yea but, what I meant was my other computer doesn't have the internet would it save the clicks and shit in there (after reboot) since it wouldn't ever be pulsing to the server?
Alright, so I feel kinda dumb, but I still don't know how to pulse. Whenever i double click on anything, it says whatpulse is already running, how do I pulse?
Please explain in simplest of terms, I am compu-handicapped.

If you are using Windows, there should be some little icons at the bottom-right of your screen, right next to the time display. One of them should be a black W. Double click on that to pulse. Right click on it for other options.
right click icon, go to program settings, make it pulse every x hours. also recommend removing splash screen, tray balloons, and the rest of all that nonsense.

Btw, us Canadians are owning the TL team. :3
It can be done, but there is not a reason to do this at this moment, maybe when we get more people involved in the WP thing, and we got a lot of people on the team, that might happen .

create "profiles" for that, it's described on the website
I have a problem with my whatpulse. It's rather tragic. Anytime I attempt to start up the program it says to me:
"It appears your WhatPulse.wpw file is generated by a different WhatPulse version then this one. Please delete this file and try again."
Now I have deleted the Whatpulse.wpw file. I got the same error message. I reinstalled and it worked fine, but the next time I fired up the program I got the same message. Now I'm not getting credit for my key strokes and I'm not helping TL own the interwebs. Somebody help me !

pure gamer keys
interesting how it changed now my sample is roughly 3x as large now, here are my new keys..
Space - 1.5mil A - 1mil Enter, W, E, 1, S, LShift, D, T, O, I - 750k to 500k
everything else is quite lower (380k and below)
so i guess over 2008, less gaming and more typing for me. although traces are still there. W should not be the 4th most common key unless you're a gamer lol
Post your key frequencies! it's always interesting to look at history data

As you all noticed by now, the previous news post was a while ago, and the project has slept since then.
Untill 4 weeks ago, it woke up.
There's a new spark of energy in the development team, and this is our first release. New guy on the block is called bobL.
We are happy to announce a new version of the Windows client (1.6), the first public Mac OS X client (1.1) and a new version of the website.
Here's a small list of the major features added:
Website: - Overhaul of visual aspects. - ICEPAY donation system. (phone, sms, ideal, wiretransfer, etc) - Referral system; Gather more statistics by referring your friends. - Knowledge Base to fit the style of the main website.
Windows: 1.6 - Optimized the data inside WhatPulse.wpw to minimize corruption. - Store WhatPulse.wpw inside a Windows assigned place. (fixes problems with Vista) - Brand new login window. (for existing accounts and registering accounts) - Ability to determine the place of stats inside the geek window. (will be made easier) - Redirected server communication through port 80 again. - A lot of bugfixes.
'Pulse profiles' have been renamed to 'Computers' to make more sense.
Expect a better version release system!
With the release of 1.6, all previous versions before 1.5 (1.4.x) will be disabled. Please upgrade before 12 may, otherwise you will not be able to pulse anymore!
A word on a Linux version: I have started work on a Linux client myself, and will probaly release an alpha or beta in a few months. (for real this time. ;-))
My top frequencies are 1 386k 3 351k A 349k Space 296k S 200k 4 194k
And I don't log whatpulse at work cause it was always buggy for me. Probably would get 3 times as much data.
btw i upgraded to the new version and all my key frequencies disappeared T_________T i guess it's nice that i put them up there, still. that's a lot of keys gone from my sample

Hey I never upgraded to the new version of whatpulse a few months back for the principle of "if it ain't broke don't fix it", as well as the knowledge that most programs that get updated usually just add more weight and bullshit.
But just yesterday I keep getting the error message of 'cannot find whatpulse/cannot connect to whatpulse server' when I try to pulse or anything.
I reset the comp and close/open the program but it just wont pulse anymore. I even tried to request a new token but it gives the same error.
Anyone else still using the older version and having problems?
ps - cool

It's been a while since this thread got bumped. We've broken through to the top 30 teams. If we get to the top 25, we'll be on the first page in the team rankings list! =D http://whatpulse.org/stats/teams/page/1/
i've been thinking about bumping this. i went through the stats some weeks earlier and saw that people haven't pulsed for 1 year plus! what is that, like 6 trillion keys?!
I'm nearing 10 million keys. A little under 500k more to go. Unfortunately I have finals coming up so I won't be able to smash some keys in the coming week, but I'll definitely play loads of SC/FFR/touhou after that to climb up to the 10 million mark. My goal is to eventually hit our first page, but I don't see that happening with some of the people already in the 12 mil mark. Oh well, I'll definitely aim for it!
Heh. I'm at #125 on the team, and it's only because people haven't pulsed in a good while. Makes me feel like much less of a nerd knowing that I've only pressed 1.9 million keys and clicked 2.1 million times (yes, I'm a clicker T_T).
Lol, my key to mouse ratio is pretty funny right now. I just had a paper to type, and logged in some 28k keys, and I was still under 500 clicks when I checked it.
SpoR is in 4055th place. 18th for keys 7th for clicks within team.
SpoR has been a participant since 2007-04-18 (34 months ago), and in that time has typed 17,142,010 keys, clicked 15,553,056 times and moved his or her mouse for 591.61 miles. all the teams listed in the top50 is probably a good recourse for good websites/communities besides TL
I'd probably be #1 or close to it within team in miles if you could do it, (im at 591)
put key frequencies on too! right click -> key frequencies -> keep record it keeps track of what key you pressed and how many times you pressed it. mine is
F - 97,287 S - 89,633 Space - 66,608 E - 38,752 Left Ctrl - 34,318
heh, i play counter strike, and i mainly kz + lj (for whoever knows what this is on this forum you are awesome) and i use ESDF instead of WASD. i guess you can tell i play that a lot lol.

Just set it to pulse every 50000~ or so. Don't let it get too high because if something goes wrong, corrupted token or something, you can lose 2 million keys

Oh man, I don't even wanna know how much I type and how many clicks I randomly spam each day. I guess I'll install this for the sake of helping TL out.

check ur eyes. It's 1 and 3, 3 is my main hatch and 1 is my main units hotkey!
My WhatPulse tends to bug up sometimes and not count keys and clicks. At times I'll pull up the little icon thingamajig in the minibar on my comp and while I'm blatantly clicking random things, it doesn't register a click with that little red thing that flashes. Just wondering if anyone else gets random bugs like this from time to time.
oh man, i was so pissed, i had about 50 miles, and i went to pulse, BAM invalid token. had to restart and lose all of my keys clicks and 50 miles =( i was saving up for like 100+ miles but noo. i have it set now to pulse every ~25,000 keys

I'm totally bumping this post. I am a whatpulse member and have contributed 2.5million keystrokes to the TeamLiquid team (and I don't even game that much..)
There are less than 300 members in the whatpulse teamliquid team. If you are unfamiliar with whatpulse, read the OP of course. If you are too lazy: It is a background process that takes up a trivial amount of cpu (only 2mb on my pc) and tracks how many keystrokes and mouse clicks you do. Teamliquid appears on the front page for each category (keys, clicks, mouse miles moved), but I think we have the ability to come out on top. There are over 1000 TL users currently logged in. If only 100 more TL users joined there would be a drastic difference in our rank position. Join up and continue TLs domination of the interwebz. ty, glhf.
its not a big deal but I was curious if anyone else has issues with their What pule not counting keys while sc2 is open. The clicks seems to register but no keys. kinda sucks losing a couple thousand keys every game.
With Starcraft 2 coming out my keys/clicks are going to go through the roof :D!
This is also a friendly bump to in case newer people who haven't been to TL before want to help join us in global domination! It would be greatly appreciated!
surprisingly i honestly cant believe we are only in 19th place, i mean if more TL members just used this we would dominate yet another webpage. :D think about it!
btw we have: One Billion Four Hundred & Sixteen Million Nine Hundred & Sixty-Two Thousand Two Hundred & Nine Key Strokes. C'MON WHERE IS THE MANPOWER!
My what pulse doesn't record my keys or clicks for sc2 so I try to pulse what I can but it sux. What version are you guys using? maybe i'll uninstall the newest version and go back a few steps.
what does it considering mousing middle button scrolling? i feel obligated to click on the right and drag down every page to increase my miles now, instead of mousing on down.

274 miles in 5 months. holy crap. I used to have 1 million click per month during my hardcore BW period. Now im only 360k... Looks like my APM at office is not that high
I wanna know why it says I've been a member for 39 months when I signed up on 2007-10-09 -.-
What does everyone do that gets a lot of keys/clicks?
for me playing bw d2 gets a ton of clicks but not many keys IMing friends
Does the mouse movement count how far it moves on the screen or physically? I'm thinking physically because I've only moved about 500 miles but my sensitivity is pretty high.

I think it's on the screen, because I think there is no way WhatPulse can know your mouse DPI which is essential to calculate the physical distance.
edit : well, on the screen is a little weird to because WhatPulse can only know your resolution, not your screen size. So anyone could enlighten us ? :D
I remember this the first time around, but have since got a new computer. So I'm starting fresh! Teamliquid must rule the internet eventually, and this is obviously the most prestigious way of doing it.
With all the new sc2 players I don't see why we can't accomplish this task. Really it's a matter of numbers. The more people on the team, the higher we'll end up ranking. Simple as that.
lol that sucks, My Keys auto pulse every 25,000. We could easily be #1 if all TL members joined and pulsed. The people who are Currently logged into TL is 4x higher than the number we have on What pulse. We really wont get much higher at this rate, we've been pretty steady in this position for awhile now.
Joined awhile ago, I'm kinda suprised im still at top. TL ftw!
EDIT I've also had the auto pulsing problem. I cant even manually pulse anymore its pretty lame. I had it auto pulse every 1.337mil or so and it just doesnt want to. Anybody know a fix? thanks
EDIT2 Yay just lost my first 2mil, oh well had to happen one day. Downloaded new version and all seems well, lowered my autopulse too
Yeah, increasing the frequency with which you pulse is probably the best fix to avoid tokens. I've never really had that problem, just problems with one of the files being corrupted .
Nice to see this thread got bumped. I just need to find some way to increase my key count a lot again. SC II is making me rage so something easier would be nice :D
Well I got roughly 1mil keys and clicks saved up and like 30 miles :O? I guess I'm kinda wierd in the way I actually have more clicks than keys unlike most people, As an eve player I can't wait till the day we beat teh gooonzzz!!
What the hell how did we get owned so hard in miles lately? Did some new mouse spamming game/teams come out?

This is going to be awesome! I'm already a freak when I comes to moving my mouse constantly and highlighting/clicking constantly, like most SC players.
yo I noticed in 8-28-08 the miles never changed to the next post a few months later (mustve been a C/P error) oh well. Also wow at this miles rape in 4 months time back in 2009(but hasn't increased this drastically since), wonder what was the cause.
Hide Spoiler [05-02-09] - 209 members (37th) 884,816,473 keys (36th) 462,388,930 clicks (26th) 19,020.06 miles (15th)

Someone should really go through the OP and the posts in this thread and graph the progress (and possible try and account for spikes or whatever) That would be neat.
I just remembered I had this running after seeing the popup in my taskbar- I've had this since 2004 (lol), almost 40mill keys 8.5 mill clicks. Joined the TL team from my previous team, having found this through SC2 I was primarily an FPS player before SC2. Also DotA, I guess.
Transferred straight into 7th rank haha, some stats:
1,010,595 A 886,011 Space 729,324 D 664,666 W 526,636 S 497,876 Tab 481,604 E 467, 226 Enter
Wow, the program is near impossible to create an account on, I fill it all out to create an account, doesn't tell me if it's successful or not... go to login and nothing happens when i click "Check for Computer Names" ¬_¬

I don't have SC2 installed, does anybody know if whatpulse catches your keys and clicks while playing SC2? cause I know it doesn't catch on when I play maplestory >.>
I use to wathpulse a ton back in my Maplestory days! Got into my old account and just joined the TL team

well sometimes after i left my computer in some power saving mode and then restore it, only one of the mouse inputs gets recorded, so i'll get results like 10000 clicks but no mouse movement fixes with a computer restart though but i imagine if it doesn't always work for me there's people out there for which it never works?
Anyone checked out the new WhatPulse website and launcher? I just figured out how to turn off the "pulse every 1000 keys". We're currently fifth on the website!
Yeah, I am using Whatpulse 2.0 since the previous versions didn't save your stats after logging off in Windows 8. I tried the 2.0.1; however, it caused random audio and video skipping so quickly switched back. Now I don't have to remember to pulse every single time I go to shut down my computer and maybe won't lose thousands of keys to the evilness that was Whatpulse 1.X not saving my keys!
However, I must admit that I'm sad that 2.0 doesn't track mileage. I've also turned off the other stats besides keys/clicks, since that's really all I'm interested in!
Wondering if any other WhatPulse users have suddenly started experiencing loss of keyboard control issues? Both my computer and my families computer have gotten the exact same issue at the same time, both of which recently had WhatPulse installed on them. Function keys have become unusable, spacebar is just continuously being spammed and sometimes it even begins to type things by itself that I'd typed earlier in the day.
Hmm, TL got 4TB Upload in total. I've uploaded 2TB of it in the last 2 weeks. Feel proud ^_^
I also wish Whatpulse would grow, grow and grow! Would be awesome if it attracted more people! So come on people of TL, jump on the train! Let's take that first placement!

Ive had this issue using only certain applications. I was curious if it was actually whatpulse thats been doing it but after you saying this it explains alot. Thanks for your post.

It actually had nothing to do with WP in the end, it was just an incredibly unfortunate series of events that coincidentally happened at the same time to both computers. We were all laughing about it for weeks when we solved it because of how stupid it was, but yeah, WP was unrelated. I also got confirmation from WP staff that it's not possible for it to interact with your keypresses/mouse clicks, so you should keep looking in to it.

A lot of people have been having issues with the new version. Some issues can be solved by deleting your WhatPulse.db from *Username*\AppData\Local\WhatPulse (This wipes your local data stats), or you can downgrade to 2.0.1 before it got buggy until they release a new patch.

My Whatpulse account is really old, so my username had an '&' symbol in it. Since they moved to a new site and upgraded the client it doesn't accept it anymore which was messing everything up. It's an unfortunate number of keys and clicks lost, I wonder how many clicks I did for that last paper I wrote?
Now that this thread has been bumped, post your keyboard heatmaps
Mine's mainly just the standard ETAONRISH/Shift/Space/Enter you get from typing lots of text, along with Ctrl/Alt/Tab from the language switching hotkeys I use. Also, I apparently haven't pressed F7 once in the past three months
My whatpulse was giving some runtime error so I went to the site. Its all different now and recommended that I get 2.2.1 so I did. It installed some winpcap or something that seems a bit more invasive and heavy as a program. Does anyone know what all this shit is..

UL/DL of what? How do I remove it? All these new features seem pretty retarded and laggy. The worst part now is that I was getting weird error messages and had to reboot (could be related to HDD problem). I also find it rather annoying that when I double tap to pulse, it pops up the window every time. How the hell do I turn that off? edit- it actually opens when i single click the tray icon to pulse, still pulses on the 2nd click but I don't want the stupid window opening every time. If I can't go back to the old version I may stop using it all together.

i noticed this a couple months ago just opened it and no big deal
but then apparenlty it happened again and it wasnt running for like the past month
Never had that problem. The only problem I've had is if my PC ever crashes or something, when I start again I have to re-login. Not that big of a deal though

Yeah after like 6 months or something like that I think. If you PM a mod they can edit/unlock it for you so you can have access to it again.
